Prep Baseball Louisiana: 2027 State Rankings Update (December 2024)

Alex Armand
Louisiana Scouting Director

The 2024 fall season has come to an end, which means it's time for an update to our state rankings, ahead of the high school baseball season.  This fall, our staff was able to get out to see more teams and players than ever before, as we saw a record number of players come through our events this fall.

Today, we continue our month long stretch of state rankings updates with the 2027 class.  We've expanded the list to 160 prospects and although there wasn't a lot of movement at the top, there were still plenty of risers throughout the entire group.  Below, we give a snapshot of the Top 10, dive into the Top 5, and list out the top uncommitted players by position for this class.  Be sure to follow us, across all of our social media platforms, as we continue to provide more content and coverage on our state rankings update.

TOP 5 DEEP DIVE

Jordin Griffin OF / Barbe / 2027

Fresh off the football gridiron, we were able to see the LSU recruit a couple of weeks ago at a Barbe intrasquad, and he didn't look rusty at all.  Griffin smoked a pull-side triple off the base of the right-centerfield wall, and then hit a backside double off the base of the left-centerfield wall.  He was also able to swipe a couple of bases, which is something that we should see him do more often this coming spring.

Devyn Downs RHP / INF / Bastrop / 2027

Downs was a key part of Sterlington's offense last spring, as he helped the Panthers reach the LHSAA Non-Select D-III State Title Game, after hitting .366 with 4 HR and 25 RBI.  The LSU recruit is now at Bastrop and immediately becomes the team's best bat and arm, thanks to a heater that reaches into the low-90's combined with his ability to drive the ball in the box.

Lawton Littleton LHP / OF / Barbe / 2027

Fully recovered from a minor injury at the end of last summer, we had the opportunity to see Littleton a few weeks ago at a Barbe intrasquad and he was really good.  The uncommitted southpaw has put on a good 20 lbs. since last season and it showed in his performance, as he was able to work his FB up to 89 mph, while sitting 85-88 mph for two innings.  His low 70's CB was sharp with spin rates up to 2700 RPM's and he was able to kill spin on his mid-70's CH.  Littleton also looked good swining the bat and is firmly in the mix for a starting outfield spot for the Bucs as well.

Myles Collins C / Opelousas Catholic / 2027

The physical 6'3" 205 lbs. backstop is one of the many talented prospects that the Vikings return this coming spring from last year's State Title team.  We had the opportunity to see Collins at the beginning of last spring and he's made a lot of jumps and strides in his defensive game since his varsity start.  He's got a really good arm (79 mph from the crouch) which produces pop times as low as a 1.86 at our Top Prospect Games this summer.

Kade Luker LHP / OF / Cedar Creek / 2027

The Cedar Creek product made a jump in our last State Rankings update and checks in again at the #5 spot again in this update.  Luker was dominant during his freshman campaign, as he posted a 2.50 ERA with 75 K's across 50 1/3 IP.  He's got a loose arm that really works with a FB that got up to 89 mph this summer, and he can also swing it from the left side.
