Prep Baseball Louisiana: 2027 State Rankings Update (December 2024 Risers)

Alex Armand
Louisiana Scouting Director

Yesterday, we released our updated state rankings update, for the 2027 class, now that the fall season has come to an end.  Throughout the fall, our staff traveled across the state, to see as many prospects and teams as possible, and we were able to see more prospects than we've ever seen before.  Our state rankings for the 2027 class expanded to 160 players in total for this update, and there were plenty of movers and shakers throughout the list.  Today, we take a look at a few guys that made a move up in this rankings update.

STATE RANKINGS RISERS (2027 CLASS)

Cooper Hawkins OF / St. Thomas More / 2027

Physical 6'1" 190 lbs. frame.  Hawkins jumps into the Top-10 in this State Rankings update to #9 overall, after an eye-popping performance at our State Games event back in September.  The St. Thomas More product ran a 7.22 laser-timed 60 and showed a big arm from the outfield up to 90 mph.  He flashed present gap-to-gap power in BP and recorded a 97.8 mph max exit velocity, which was good for third best at the event.  Hawkins set-up at the plate is simple with not a whole lot extra movement, which allows him to see the ball really well and make really good swing decisions.  In Game 1 at the State Games, he went 2-2 with a single to the left-centerfield gap and then a rocket triple to the right-centerfield gap.  He followed up that performance in Game 2 with a 1-2 effort, which included a no-doubt homerun to left field off a 88 mph FB up in the zone.  Hawkins is a must-follow prospect this spring in the state's 2027 class.

Bryce Waguespack LHP / St. Charles Catholic / 2027

The St. Charles Catholic product jumped up in the last State Rankings update and moved up again yesterday to #14, after another quality outing at our State Games event.  Waguespack tossed two shutout innings in Game 1 of the event and finished with 2 K's and 0 BB's.  He uses a slower and controlled delivery and releases the ball from a lower 3/4 arm slot with little effort.  His FB sat 81-85 mph and he was able to drive it in to right-handed hitters and sink it away from left-handed hitters, and his low-mid 70's SL tunneled well off his heater.  Waguespack is an exciting young southpaw that we're eager to see pitch this spring.

Dylan Robinson INF / RHP / St. Augustine / 2027

The younger brother of 2025 Bryce Robinson, a Tulane commit, the younger Robinson has been steadily improving each time that we see him and he took another step forward this fall at our State Games event.  The St. Augustine product posted personal bests in the 60 (7.00), max exit velocity (84.3 mph), and infield velocity (81 mph).  His in-game performance was noteable as well, as he finished the weekend 2-5 with 3 QAB's.  On the mound, he provided one of the more intriguing looks at the entire event.  Robinson tossed two shutout innings with zero free passes and 4 K's.  His 80-82 mph FB registered spin rates consistently in the 2600-2700 RPM range, which would be considered elite at any age, and is likely a sign that there's more velocity on the way, as he continues to mature and fill out his 5'10" 140 lbs. frame.  Robinson moves up eight spots in this update to #24 overall.

Nick Brown OF / Teurlings Catholic Catholic / 2027

6'2" 155 lbs. athletic and lean frame with a ton of room to add strength.  Brown is part of a really talented group of 2027 prospects at Teurlings Catholic and was another guy that made the most of attending our State Games event this past fall.  He's a really good overall athlete and posted a 7.23 laser-timed 60 during the workout portion of the weekend.  Brown also showed off a rhythmic and smooth left-handed stroke, and took one of the best swings on the weekend in Game 3 of the event, when he blistered a RBI double to the pull-side gap.  He jolts up the rankings in this update to #28 overall in the state.

Hayden Millen OF / Benton / 2027

5'7" 145 lbs. stocky frame with a strong lower-half.  The Benton product showed off some of the best tools that we saw this entire fall at our Southwest Louisiana Fall ID in October.  Millen blazed a 6.41 in the 60 yard dash, which ended up being the top 60 time that we saw at any of our events this entire calendar year, and he also showed a big arm from the outfield up to 92 mph.  A left-handed hitter, he works flat to the ball and stays level through his extension, working mostly line drive/hard groundball up the middle and to the pull-side.  Millen enters our State Rankings for the first time in this update at #38 overall.
