Prep Baseball Louisiana: Opening Day Matchup Coverage

Opening day of the 2025 high school baseball season in Louisiana is finally here, and the action kicks off with a loaded slate of matchups across the state. Our staff will be on hand for three big games, featuring some of Louisiana’s top-ranked programs with plenty of storylines to watch. No. 11 Teurlings Catholic takes on No. 13 Acadiana in a battle of talented Lafayette-area programs, while No. 9 Parkview Baptist hosts No. 19 Lutcher in what promises to be a hard-fought contest. Meanwhile, Fontainebleau welcomes Thibodaux in a clash between programs eager to set the tone for the season ahead. It’s officially time to play ball in the Bayou State!

#11 Teurlings Catholic @ #13 Acadiana

Time: 3:30 PM

Lafayette-area baseball fans are in for a treat on opening day as two of the region’s top programs square off with Acadiana hosting Teurlings Catholic. The Rams caught fire in last year’s playoffs, making a deep run to the state tournament before falling to eventual champion Catholic (BR). The Rebels, meanwhile, reached the pinnacle of success, capturing the Select Division II State Title, and they enter 2025 with high expectations thanks to a loaded roster that returns most of last year’s core. The big storyline in this matchup is the potential showdown on the mound. If Acadiana rolls out junior RHP Gavin Foreman to face off against junior LHP Evan Vincent of Teurlings Catholic, fans could witness two future Ragin’ Cajuns battling it out in a must-see duel.

#19 Lutcher @ #9 Parkview Baptist

Time: 4:00 PM

Location: Parkview Baptist High School

Lutcher and Parkview Baptist met on opening day last year in a hard-fought 4-2 battle that saw the Bulldogs come out on top. Both programs went on to reach the LHSAA State Tournament, with Lutcher capturing its second state title in three seasons, while Parkview Baptist’s run ended with a tough loss to rival University Lab. Expectations are once again sky-high for both teams in 2025. Lutcher will lean on LSU commit Marshall Louque, one of the state’s top two-way talents, who likely gets the start on the mound after earning the win against the Eagles last year with a dominant 5-inning, 8-strikeout performance. Parkview Baptist counters with a deep pitching staff led by UL-Lafayette commits Cade Durbin and Samuel Mitchell, along with junior Logan Sorrel. This matchup has all the makings of a classic pitcher’s duel, where the outcome may come down to which team can capitalize on limited offensive chances.

 


Thibodaux vs. Fontainebleau

Time: 6:00 PM

Location: Fontainebleau High School

Thibodaux and Fontainebleau enter the 2025 season with a shared goal—to bounce back after missing the playoffs last spring. The Tigers have the advantage of returning one of the state’s top left-handed arms in senior Brody Trosclair (Northwestern State), who will play a key role in their turnaround effort. Fontainebleau, meanwhile, begins a new chapter under first-year head coach Rickey Noland, leading a young and talented squad highlighted by freshman Tanner Conley, the top-ranked player in Louisiana’s 2028 class. Both teams have something to prove this season, and Monday night’s opener offers a chance to set the tone for what they hope will be a successful campaign.
