Prep Baseball Louisiana 2025 Game of the Week: Holy Cross vs. Belle Chasse (Week 4)

Alex Armand
Louisiana Scouting Director

Last week, we headed to the Baton Rouge, LA area to see the Catholic (BR) Bears take on the Live Oak Eagles, which turned out to be a great series.  The Eagles took Game 1 from the Bears in a pitcher's duel by a score of 1-0. Catholic (BR) got revenge in Game 2 with a 5-1 win, but Live Oak took the rubber-match and the series on Saturday with a 12-6 win.

This week, we're heading to the Southeastern part of the state to witness Belle Chasse and Holy Cross go head-to-head. The Cardinals and Tigers have both gotten off to a good start this season with Belle Chasse sitting at 8-4 and Holy Cross at a perfect 12-0. Stay connected with us on all our social media platforms for real-time updates, exclusive highlights, and comprehensive coverage of what promises to be an epic Week 4 Game of the Week!

GAME OF THE WEEK PREVIEW

Our Week 4 Game of the Week features a somewhat interesting matchup as Holy Cross and Belle Chasse kick off their three-game series on Thursday, March 6, 2025. Holy Cross is arguably the hottest team in the entire state right, as they currently own a perfect 12-0 record, while Belle Chasse has had a strong start themselves with a current record of 8-4.

Holy Cross

The Tigers head into the fourth week of the season with a perfect 12-0 record, which matches their 2024 season win total.  They picked up wins last week against Mandeville (1-0), Terrebonne (8-1), Houma Christian (5-1), and Patterson (13-0).  This weekend's series against Belle Chasse will be their final tune-up before district play begins in the always tough Catholic League out of New Orleans, LA.

Leading the offense is junior shorstop Dom Pellegrin, who has been absolutely on fire to start the 2025 season.  In four games last week, the Tulane recruit went 6-for-11 (.545) with 4 doubles, 4 runs batted in, and 5 runs scored.  Hitting behind him is senior second baseman Ryder Planchard, who was a member of our Senior Future Games team last summer.  In the Tigers last game against Patterson, the LSU-Eunice recruit went 1-for-3 (.333) with a triple and 2 runs batted in.  Another guy who has bursted onto the scene as of late is senior two-way standout Will Andrade.  Just last week, Andrade earned two wins on the mound after tossing 9 innings of no-hit baseball with 13 strikeouts.  We had him up to 92 mph with his fastball against Mandeville last Tuesday in that complete game no-hit effort.  If that wasn't enough, he also went 7-for-14 (.500) at the plate with 1 homerun, 1 triple, 3 runs batted in, and 4 runs scored.

Belle Chasse

The Cardinals have a stout 8-4 record on the season right now with one of their wins coming on opening night against Northshore, who is currently 6th in our Power 25 Rankings.  After a tough 1-0 loss to Archbishop Hannan last Thursday, Belle Chasse reeled off three straight wins to finish Week 3 and head into this weekend's series with momentum against Holy Cross.

The biggest reason the Cardinals were able to give Northshore their only loss of the season was the performance of junior Alex Richardson.  The Southern Miss recruit was stellar in that game, as he went 7 innings and gave up only 1 run and 0 earned runs on 2 hits with 4 walks and 11 strikeouts.  Richardson's latest start, albeit in a losing effort last Tuesday against Archbishop Hannan, was arguably better than his first, as he tossed 6 1/3 innings last week against the Hawks giving up 1 earned run with 14 strikeouts.  Seniors Gavin Rubio and Hudson Faucheaux are two additional veteran presences that should be key factors heading into this weekend's series.  Rubio is super versatile, as evidenced by his .340 average and 3-1 record on the mound last season, while Faucheaux hit .299 last spring with 26 total hits.

Holy Cross currently sits at #1 in the LHSAA's official power ratings for Select Division I teams, while Belle Chasse sits at #4 for Non-Select Division II schools.  Both teams have aspirations and goals of making state title runs later this spring, and this weekend's series will be a good test for both teams as they get prepared for district play.
