Quick Hits: Baton Rouge Preseason ID

Alex Armand
Louisiana Scouting Director

Baton Rouge, LA - On Sunday, January 12, 2025, the Prep Baseball Louisiana staff traveled to the Central BR High School, to host our final event of the preseason, which featured over 50 uncommitted prospectrs from the 2025-2028 classes.  Each participant went through a pro-style workout that consisted of running a laser-timed 60 yard dash using Vald Performance, defensive evaluations, and batting practice using Trackman Baseball and Blast Motion.  Pitchers finished the day off by throwing a bullpen with Trackman Baseball to receive all of their data and metrics.  Below, we take a look at some of the top performers from Sunday's event.

+ 2026 RHP Logan Sorrel (Parkview Baptist HS)

6'3" 205 lbs. durable frame.  We were excited to get an early season look at the state's top uncommitted arm, as we hadn't seen him since the Future Games in late-July.  The Parkview Baptist product has definitely picked up his tempo and pace, as he was moving much quicker through his delivery down the slope.  Using a longer arm stroke, Sorrel releases the ball form a higher 6'9" release height.  In less than ideal, frigid cold conditions, he worked his FB in the 88-91 mph range to both sides of the plate with good life through the zone.  He flashed a sharp and frim 79-85 mph SL with an average of -12.2" of horizontal movement, and developing feel for a 81-82 mph CH.  There's likely some more velocity to come for Sorrel, as he figures out to ride his back leg longer throughout this more up-tempo delivery.  He's still in a really good spot for early January, and looks primed for a big spring as part of a talented Eagles pitching staff that has the chance to be the best in the entire state this season.

+ 2026 RHP Blaise Tingstrom (Brother Martin HS)

We came away intrigued with the 6'0" 180 lbs. right-hander after a really solid bullpen session on Sunday.  The Brother Martin product is a fluid & smooth mover down the mound, and really sinks into his back leg after a high leg lift, and strides slightly across his body, before using a long & loose arm stroke to release the ball from an over-the-top slot.  Tingstrom sat 83-85 mph with his FB and kept everything down in the zone to both sides of the plate.  He also showed feel for spin with his CB & SL, as well as a firmer 79-81 mph CH with arm-side sink & run.  Tingstrom is a good uncommitted name to circle to see this spring out of the New Orleans, LA area.

+ 2026 RHP/1B Kason Johnson (Dutchtown HS)

The Dutchtown product had one of the better overall days on Saturday.  This was the best that we've seen him look at the plate.  He starts in an upright and balanced stance with a higher hand-set and takes a direct path to contact, while staying flat through extension.  Johnson swung the bat with intent and drove the ball from gap-to-gap with a personal best max exit velocity of 94.4 mph, which was good for a +5 mph jump from his previous high.  On the mound, he had a super clean bullpen session, as he pounded the zone to all quadrants with a four-pitch mix that included a 83-85 mph FB.  Johnson looks poised to have a really good spring for the Griffins.

+ 2027 RHP/OF Lincoln Guillory (Teurlings Catholic HS)

Guillory jumped onto our radar last summer after throwing at the Prep Baseball Louisiana Summer Championships Tournament in Sulphur, LA, and showed well again on Sunday.  With a 6'3" 218 lbs. frame, he was undoubtedly one of the most physical prospects at the event.  He swung the bat well and made a lot of loud contact with exit velocities up to 96.1 mph, but it's on the mound where his highest upside likely lies.  Last summer, we saw him up to 88 mph, and it was no surprise that his FB was in the 83-85 mph range on Sunday in cold conditions.  His command, however, improved dramatically from our last look, as nearly every pitch was in the strikes zone, including his low-70's SL and mid-70's CH.  Guillory will be a guy that we monitor closely this spring and into the summer.

+ 2027 OF/LHP Nick Brown (Teurlings Catholic HS)

Brown was another Teurlings Catholic Rebel that showed well on Sunday.  We first saw him at our State Games last fall and loved his left-handed swing, and on Sunday he swung the bat well again.  He works from an upright stance with the bat head rested on his back shoulder, before using a leg-kick load and stride.  What was impressive is that he was able to keep his weight centered through his forward move, which is probably why he's accurate with the barrel.  He drove several balls to the pull-side gap, and there's the potential for more power as he packs on strength and physicality to his 6'3" 163 lbs. frame.

+ 2028 SS Myles Auxt (Catholic BR HS)

The two-time Junior Future Gamer entered our initial State Rankings for the 2028 Class as the #1 shortstop, and he showed why he was deserving of that spot at Sunday's event.  He's a super steady and reliable defender on the infield with clean actions and an accurate arm across the diamond, and just like he did last summer at the Junior Future Games, he showed the ability to make the "highlight reel" play on Sunday, as he made a really nice sliding forehand play up the middle and delivered a strike to first base.  Auxt also ran a 6.99 laser-timed 60, on a cold day, so he'll likely have the foot speed to stick up the middle.  Offensively, is where he really showed marked improvements from the summer, as he's gotten a lot stronger, which showed during his BP rounds, as he connected for a lot of hard line-drive contact from the middle of the field and to the pull-side.  There's been a lot of really good shortstops over the years at Catholic BR, and Auxt looks to be the next guy in line.
