Quick Hits: Lake Charles Preseason ID

Louisiana Scouting Director

Moss Bluff, LA - On Saturday, January 4, 2025, the Prep Baseball Louisiana staff traveled to the Sam Houston High School, to host our first event of the preseason, which featured prospects across the state's 2025-2029 classes.  Each participant went through a pro-style workout that consisted of running a laser-timed 60 yard dash using Swift Performance, defensive evaluations, and batting practice using Trackman Baseball and Blast Motion.  Pitchers finished the day off by throwing a bullpen with Trackman Baseball to receive all of their data and metrics.  Below, we take a look at some of the top performers from Saturday's event.

+ 2026 RHP Gavin Foreman (Acadiana HS)

6'1" 220 lbs. durable and physical frame.  The Acadiana product had a loud showing on Saturday to kick-off his junior season.  Foreman used a quick and whippy arm action to run his FB up to 94 mph, sitting 91-93 mph during his bullpen, and was in the strike zone with nearly every pitch.  He showed feel for a sharp "11-5" shaped 73-75 mph CB, as well as developing feel for a 77-79 mph SL, and a 80-83 mph with late fade.  Foreman has surely created a lot of buzz for himself heading into the spring, as he'll be a guy that we and plenty of others will monitor moving forward.

+ 2027 INF Barrett Coody (Rosepine HS)

Physical 6'0" 220 lbs. frame built like a middle-linebacker.  Coody had an impressive all-around day and is a guy that we're excited to continue to monitor this spring.  He posted a 7.07 in the 60 and took a clean round of infield showing athletic footwork with a strong arm across the diamond up to 87 mph.  At the plate, however, is where Coody really shined.  He uses a toe-tap load and hits from a slightly wider base before using a strong lower-half to rotate the barrel to contact, which produced loud contact from gap-to-gap with exit velocities up to 101.8 mph.

+ 2025 LHP Hayes Mire (Kaplan HS)

Sturdy 5'10" 180 lbs. frame.  The uncommitted senior southpaw turned in a quality bullpen on Saturday.  Mire works exclusively from the stretch and uses a short/quick arm action to release the ball from a near over-the-top slot.  His FB sat 84-87 mph and played best to his glove side.  Mire also showed the ability to land both his low-70's CB and upper-70's SL for strikes with each flashing short/tight break.  His firmer 79-80 mph CH with arm-side run completed his four-pitch mix.

+ 2026 LHP Tanner McCollough (Pine Prairie HS)

6'1" 180 lbs. athletic frame.  McCollough was another uncommitted junior southpaw that intrigued last Saturday.  Using a full and loose arm stroke to release the ball from a 3/4 slot, he sat 84-86 mph with his FB, while also showing developing feel for a sweeping 73-75 mph SL, as well as a late-fading 77-78 mph CH.  The Pine Prairie product will need to hone in on his control, but he's an athletic southpaw who's a smooth mover down the slope, which is why he's a good name to circle to see this spring.
