Quick Hits: New Orleans Preseason ID
January 8, 2025
Metairie, LA - On Sunday, January 5, 2025, the Prep Baseball Louisiana staff traveled to the Mike Miley Stadium, to host our second event of the preseason, which featured prospects across the state's 2025-2029 classes. Each participant went through a pro-style workout that consisted of running a laser-timed 60 yard dash using Swift Performance, defensive evaluations, and batting practice using Trackman Baseball and Blast Motion. Pitchers finished the day off by throwing a bullpen with Trackman Baseball to receive all of their data and metrics. Below, we take a look at some of the top performers from Sunday's event.

+ 2026 RHP/INF Connor Smith (Northshore HS)
Athletic and lean 6'2" 160 lbs. frame with plenty of room to add strength. The Northshore product was a guy that we were excited to see heading into last Sunday and we came away impressed. Smith took a quality round of infield and is a pretty good runner, as he posted a 6.92 laser-timed 60. He also took a solid round of BP with line drive contact through the middle of the field. On the mound is where his highest upside likely lies. Smith uses a long and loose arm stroke to release the ball from a high 3/4 slot. His FB sat 87-89 mph with life through the zone, to go along with developing feel for a 71-73 mph SL, and a firmer 81-83 mph CH. His SL spun pretty good with spin rates in the 2400-2500 RPM range, and has the chance to be a really good pitch when he learns how to really get it out front. Regardless, Smith is a good looking uncommitted arm in the state's 2026 class that is a good follow for the spring.

Good look at a @PBR_Uncommitted junior from today’s #NewOrleansPSID. Long, loose arm action with more to come. Good name to ⭕️ for the spring. #BeSeen

+ 2026 RHP Paxton Schieffler (Archbishop Shaw HS)
6'1" 195 lbs. sturdy and physical frame. Schieffler entered Sunday relatively unknown, but made the most of his opportunity and is now on the map. The Shaw product used a full arm stroke to release the ball from a 3/4 slot and ran his FB up to 91 mph, and he showed both a four-seam and two-seam with arm-side run. His breaking ball had short/tight lateral break at 78-79 mph and he also flashed a firm 83-84 mph CH.

Another good @PBR_Uncommitted arm from today’s event. Flashed both a 4S & 2S FB and feel for a short/tight SL. #BeSeen

+ 2026 INF Marshal Serio (Jesuit HS)
Athletic 5'11" 170 lbs. frame. We've seen Serio several times over the past couple of years, and Sunday was definitely his best showing. He looked noticeably stronger and more physical from our last look, which paid dividends for him, especially in the batter's box. Serio works from an upright stance with minimal movement, and takes a direct path to contact to produce hard line drive contact from gap-to-gap. He also showed the ability to make every play on the infield with crisp actions and soft hands. The Jesuit product will be a good one to follow out of the New Orleans, LA area this spring.

Simple set-up with a direct path that produces consistent hard contact. Quality defender on the infield as well. Good @PBR_Uncommitted name for the spring. #BeSeen@AlexArmandPBR | @Tyler__Leary pic.twitter.com/qi7wQI1PeR
+ 2026 OF/INF Jaris Hamilton (University Lab HS)
5'11" 175 lbs. athletic frame. Hamilton turned in one of the better all-around days on Sunday. The U-High product kicked off the day by showing his speed, as he posted a 6.62 laser-timed 60. At the plate, he's more of a rotational hitter, using his lower-half to rotate the barrel to contact with a slightly uphill path working mostly from the middle of the field to the pull-side. Hamilton registerd a max exit velocity of 96.4 mph and averaged 90.6 mph off the bat.
