Quick Hits: Slidell Scout Day

Slidell, LA - On Monday, January 27, 2025, the Prep Baseball Louisiana staff traveled to Slidell High School, to host our Slidell Scout Day, which featured prospects from the Slidell High School baseball program in the 2025-2028 classes.  Each participant went through a pro-style workout that consisted of running a laser-timed 60 yard dash using Vald Performance, defensive evaluations, and batting practice using Trackman Baseball.  Pitchers finished the day off by throwing live to hitters with Trackman Baseball to receive all of their data and metrics.  Below, we take a look at some of the top performers from Monday's event.

Troy Green RHP / OF / Slidell, LA / 2025

Green walked away on Monday night as one of the biggest winners of the preseason, after an eye-opening one inning outing.  With a 6'0" 170 lbs. wiry frame, Green has definitely gotten stronger over the off-season, but there's still room to project, as he'll gain more strength in the future.  He's an athletic mover down the mound with a super quick arm, and he worked his FB up to a personal-best 93 mph on Monday, while sitting 89-92.  Green commanded the pitch well to his glove-side and he induced swing & miss with his heater at the top of the zone.  He also landed an upper-70's SL for strikes, although he didn't really have to go to his off-speed in this quick one inning look.  To top things off, Green threw 15 pitches with 10 for strikes and 5 for balls, and his misses were small.  Uncommitted for now, Green has certainly created a nice "buzz" for himself, as we enter the 2025 high school season.

 

 

Sergio Sotillo SS / 2B / Slidell, LA / 2026

Athletic 5'10" 170 lbs. frame.  Sotillo had a nice overall showing at Monday's Slidell Scout Day.  He posted a 6.94 laser-timed 60 and took a solid round of infield during the defensive workout.  Sotillo flashed crisp actions and a good arm up to 83 mph across the diamond.  At the plate, he worked gap-to-gap with a line drive approach.  He's a guy that you like more and more with the more times that you see him in game.

 

 

Charles Burdett SS / 2B / Slidell, LA / 2025

The uncommitted senior middle-infielder was a 1st Team All-District selection a season ago, and is another gritty player who the Tigers will be counting on this spring.  A solid overall athlete, Burdett posted a 7.08 laser-timed 60.  He also took arguably the best infield round of the day, showing solid footwork with a clean glove-to-hand transfer, and a quick release.  His throws across the diamond had backspin and carry up to 84 mph, and at the plate, he flashed some present bat speed and sneaky pop to the pull-side. 

 

 

Elijah Strahan 3B / RHP / Slidell, LA / 2025

A recent Southern University at New Orleans commit, Strahan had a good showing at Monday's Slidell Scout Day.  A right-handed hitter, Strahan looks to impact the ball out front, which produces firm contact to the pull-side.  On the mound, he had one of the better outings of all the arms that threw, as he finished with 2 K's.  Strahan worked in the 82-84 mph range with his FB and was able to land a bigger SL for strikes, and showed feel for a 76-77 mph CH with the confidence to throw it against RHH's and LHH's. 

 

 

Brayden Calamari C / RHP / Slidell, LA / 2025

Rankings  StateRank: 200 / POS: 28

Physical 5'10" 200 lbs. frame.  Calamari is another veteran two-way threat for the Tigers this spring.  A right-handed hitter, he uses a strong lower-half to turn a heavy barrel to contact, producing a max exit velocity of 90 mph, which was good for best on the day.  From the crouch, he recorded pop times of 2.03-2.07, and was up to 76 mph.  He flashed a low-mid 80's FB on the mound, as part of a three-pitch mix as well.
