Morgan McSweeney, RHP, 2016

Background

Morgan McSweeney has decided to do a prep year after attending Worcester Academy this past year. From what we understand he has made huge strides since entering high school. Based on what I saw yesterday, he is a no-brainer at most college levels and will garner serious pro attention as the year progresses for him. He fits the mold of the former velocity right-handed pitchers who have come through the New England Ruffnecks program.

SCOUTING REPORT

Morgan has an athletic build at 6-foot-2, 180-pounds. His frame certainly has room to fill as you can picture him at 200 pounds and much stronger on the bottom half. McSweeney has a simple, athletic and repeatable delivery with a clean and ultra-quick arm path. Morgan shows you that he can currently pitch 86-89 with a small frisbee slurve at 70-72 mph. He also used a 77 mph changeup that he threw to both sides of the box, rare for most high schoolers. He needs a slight alignment fix and with some strength he should blossom. I would say you would be hard pressed to find a more projectable right-hander in the northeast. I hope Morgan is ready for the recruiting scene, he’s about to get dialed up!
