2A Region Predictions
2A West Region I
Jamie’s Winner: Century Knights
Cole’s Winner: Middletown Knights
Jamie’s Write-Up: “In a region that sees the defending 2A State Champ in it, I’m going to roll with the slight underdog in Century. The Knights return a balanced lineup with some sneaky strength littered throughout, and I believe their pitching staff has the pieces to keep them competitive against other top teams in this region. Middletown’s departures from a season ago, in my opinion, halt their chances of winning the region, although I would not be surprised to see Middletown get hot and make another deep run.”
Cole’s Write-Up: “Middletown comes off a season where they captured their second state title in school history, defeating Glenelg in a thrilling afternoon tilt. Even after losing a plethora of talent on both sides of the ball, I like the Knights to win the region once again behind their offense which still retains a couple of main pieces from last year’s title team. As long as the pitching staff keeps them in games, Middletown should remain the favorite.”
2A West Region II
Jamie’s Winner: Glenelg Gladiators
Cole’s Winner: Poolesville Falcons
Jamie's Write-Up: “It’s a completely different look for the Gladiators as we enter the 2025 campaign, and coming off a region championship and a state title game berth, I’m going to stay with the hot hand. Depending on matchups and how the region shakes up, I don’t see a team defeating Nick Bilotto and if Glenelg can find a way to get him the ball for the region championship game, I see Glenelg taking it”
Cole's Write-Up: “This region lost a ton of talent following last season, especially Glenelg and Centennial. In a region full of some of the most storied Howard County schools over the past five seasons, I’m going to shock some people as I like MoCo’s very own Poolesville to come out of the region. The Falcons lost a narrow one-run game last season in the region semis, and I think they can get over the hump behind a mix of senior leadership with a cluster of intriguing upperclassmen.”
2A East Region I
Jamie’s Winner: Elkton Golden Elks
Cole’s Winner: North Harford Hawks
Jamie’s Write-Up: “Elkton possesses arguably the top 1-2 punch on the bump in Caleb Potter and James LaManna in this region, and I believe this lineup has the potential to get hot and produce enough runs behind the two arms. Having two dominant arms through the playoffs is key, and the Golden Elks certainly have that; the question will be if they can consistently produce enough runs, especially against a top arm in Luke Crowl (Rising Sun) or Colin Kight (North Harford) in the region.”
Cole’s Write-Up: “This region, complete with all UCBAC schools always seems to bring out some very good games into early May. It feels like every year there is a new champion headed to the state tournament, with CM Wright winning in 2023 and advancing to the state title, and Fallston escaping in 2024. I like North Harford this season led by junior Colin Kight on the mound who broke out last spring, pitching a near-perfect region semifinal game before ultimately falling to North East 1-0.”
2A East Region II
Jamie’s Winner: Parkside Rams
Cole’s Winner: Queen Anne's County Lions
Jamie's Write-Up: "A perennial powerhouse in the Bayside Conference, Parkside has shown the ability to match up well with top talent. Now, entering the 2025 spring certainly raises questions of how the Rams will fill the void of their mass departures from a year ago, however, returning top arm in Chase Shepherd with some reputable depth behind him is intriguing. I think this offense is also sneaky good with a really nice mix of experience and young bucks eager to make a run. The Rams seem to always be the favorite in this region year in and year out, and I’ll take them to repeat once again.”
Cole's Write-Up: “Parkside has dominated this region over the last few seasons, but a squad that has always been right in the mix has been Queen Anne’s. I think the Rams should still be the favorite behind Chase Shepherd, who led them to a win vs the Lions in last year’s region final game, but for some reason I have a really good feeling about Queen Anne’s this upcoming season. QA’s offense continues to be one of the best in the conference and if the pitching depth can be sufficient, I think an upset could be brewing come early May.”
2A North Region I
Jamie’s Winner: Sparrows Point Pointers
Cole’s Winner: Sparrows Point Pointers
Write-Up: "Sparrows Point has been the hot hand in this region for a few years now, and I don’t see a big reason to change our minds before the spring starts. A mix of experience and a winning pedigree may be what pushes the Pointers through once again this year. We’ll stick with the defending champs for now.”
2A North Region II
Jamie’s Winner: Hereford Bulls
Cole’s Winner: Hereford Bulls
Write-Up: "Another region that is controlled fairly well by the top team, Hereford continues to be the team to beat. Although the departures of impact arms should affect the rotation, we still see too much firepower out of the Bulls for them to relinquish their title.”
2A South Region I
Jamie’s Winner: Gwynn Park
Cole’s Winner: Henry E. Lackey Chargers
Jamie's Write-Up: "This region has been highly competitive for some time now, and we see nothing different in 2025. A three-team race once again in Gwynn Park, Frederick Douglass and Lackey should make for an interesting follow come playoff time. Gwynn Park took the region last year and I’ll stick with the hot hand once again.”
Cole's Write-Up: “In a region with mostly PG county schools, I think Lackey out of the SMAC will come out on top. Frederick Douglass and Gwynn Park’s success last season was just enough to prevent Lackey from winning the region, falling 5-4 to the Yellow Jackets. The difference maker for Lackey is how much they are battle-tested throughout the spring, matching up with the top schools across the SMAC that helps prepare them for the playoffs, and I think that experience will power them through to the state tournament.”
2A South Region II
Jamie’s Winner: La Plata Warriors
Cole’s Winner: Huntingtown Hurricanes
Jamie's Write-Up: "This region is a ton of fun and arguably the most competitive across all of 2A. In my eyes it’s a three-team race with experience and depth littered throughout, as Huntingtown, Patuxent, and La Plata all have a really good chance of winning the region. I’m rolling with the Warriors of La Plata, as the upperclassmen talent with a high-powered offense should get them over the hump after a tough loss to Patuxent last year. Look for La Plata to play with a slight chip on their shoulder with something to prove in 2025.”
Cole's Write-Up: “This region is absolutely loaded with the top teams across the SMAC, most notably Patuxent, La Plata, and Huntingtown. Patuxent has taken this region the last couple years, but I like the Hurricanes to take this region this spring. Even with the loss of Logan Hastings, they add a potential sophomore breakout arm in Noah McMurray that could be a major difference maker on both sides of the ball. Chris Coombs and Ivan Sypa will give Huntingtown trouble, but the Hurricanes have shown some strong competitiveness so far this spring and I like them coming out.”
