3A Region Predictions
3A West Region I
Jamie’s Winner: Tuscarora Titans
Cole’s Winner: North Hagerstown Hubs
Jamie’s Write-Up: “I really like this Tuscarora offense, and the arms they bring back certainly show some intrigue as well. An offense that should be extremely deep should match up with any pitching staff across the region, especially looking at the departures on the bump from a year ago. Can the pitching staff showcase enough depth to get out of the region? That is my biggest question and the Titans will need Isaiah Babcock to step up in a big way. I see Tuscarora hitting their way out and making a deep run towards a region title.”
Cole’s Write-Up: “This region lost a ton of talent from last year, especially by Linganore, Oakdale, and North Hagerstown. With that being said, I’m still going to take the Hubs as they have two top-end arms in Henry Lewis and Ian Kelley that should be enough to keep games low-scoring and give them the premier arm talent to battle through the region. Watch out for Tuscarora though as they gave NH some scare last year and should again.”
3A West Region II
Jamie’s Winner: Damascus Swarmin' Hornets
Cole’s Winner: Damascus Swarmin' Hornets
Write-Up: This Damascus team has the makings of producing an extremely deep run, not only toward a region title, but a state title as well. The arm talent, as well as a slew of high-octane bats make for this to be the year that the Swarmin’ Hornets make a run. We see Magruder and Wootton as being the two teams locking horns with Damascus, however, question marks for both may outweigh the immense talent that Damascus has at their disposal.
3A East Region I
Jamie’s Winner: Severna Park Falcons
Cole’s Winner: Stephen Decatur Seahawks
Jamie’s Write-Up: “Decatur defeated Severna Park in a close 4-3 matchup a year ago, and I see the Falcons getting their revenge in 2025. A talented group with a plethora of revamped arms, I see this offense showcasing consistent sparks throughout the spring that will only help them come region playoff time. If the arms can be as dominant as I think they will be, this Falcons team has the pieces to get out of the region. I am interested to see how J.M. Bennett plays this spring, as the Clippers certainly have the makings to upset a team or two throughout this region, however, I believe the two-man race of Severna Park and Decatur will be your region finals matchup.”
Cole’s Write-Up: “The talent this team has possessed over the last few years has truly been eye-opening. Outside of 2022, they haven’t had much trouble getting out of the region, but continuously have fallen short in the state semifinals. Although this Seahawks squad lost major offensive contributors from last year’s team, they didn’t need the offense last year as Decatur won the region behind a masterful performance from Nate Berzonski. He is back once again for one more year and with a Severna Park offense that’ll take a slight step back, I see Berzonski pulling Decatur through again. Still definitely watch for two-teams with top-end pitching talent in Severna Park and James M. Bennett to potentially play spoiler.”
3A East Region II
Jamie’s Winner: Chopticon Braves
Cole’s Winner: Chopticon Braves
Write-Up: The SMAC looks to be reloaded as we enter 2025, and it’s a toss up of who will win the conference title. In the region specifically, you look at Northern and Chopticon as being the top two to face off for the title. Chopticon is too loaded in our eyes and the senior led offense should have no problem getting out of the region. Look for younger talent to gain experience throughout the spring that should pay an even bigger dividend come playoff time.
3A North Region I
Jamie’s Winner: Dulaney Lions
Cole’s Winner: Dulaney Lions
Write-Up: Catonsville got out of this region a year ago, and we see this region once again being a toss-up come playoff time. In our eyes, it’s a three-team race with Dulaney, Catonsville, and Towson and we both see Dulaney punching their ticket in 2025. A slew of underclassmen with the likes of Gabriel Darraj, Logan Park, James Bowman and upperclassmen in Connor Dow, Drew Ranck, and Matthew Rich should see a much improved Dulaney squad this spring.
3A North Region II
Jamie’s Winner: Baltimore Poly-Tech Engineers
Cole’s Winner: Aberdeen Eagles
Jamie’s Write-Up: “I'm going to roll with the Engineers again in 2025. The success that wa shown throughout 2024 was certainly something to see across Baltimore City and a deep run allowed for experience to be gained by some young bucks throughout the program. I see this region as being a close one and it could go either way, however, I’ll stick with the hot hand until they get dethroned.”
Cole’s Write-Up: “This region could go many different ways. Last year, this region had the team of the playoffs in Baltimore Polytech who made a run to the state semifinals. They took down the Aberdeen Eagles 2-1 in last year’s game, and I think Aberdeen gets their revenge. BPI lost a lot of college-level talent from their squad last season, and I believe this is where Aberdeen can take advantage of that and take a trip to the state tournament.”
3A South Region I
Jamie’s Winner: Chesapeake-AA Cougars
Cole’s Winner: Chesapeake-AA Cougars
Write-Up: A loaded pitching staff with an embarrassment of riches throughout the roster, the Cougars look to make yet another deep run in 2025. A pitching rotation that returns a majority of their impact arms, with the addition of standout sophomores in Dakari Bailey, Dennis Bailey, and Matthew Sowers allows for plenty of flexibility for Coach Young’s squad. We see Northeast and a few others that could potentially match up with the Cougars, however, the balance and star power throughout the Chesapeake roster should be too much to handle for these other teams in the region.
3A South Region II
Jamie’s Winner: Sherwood Warriors
Cole’s Winner: Sherwood Warriors
Write-Up: After running into the gauntlet that is Henry Zatkowski a year ago, Sherwood enters the 2025 spring with a chip on their shoulder and we see them steamrolling into the state playoffs. Plenty of talented Howard County schools vying for a deep run may stand in the Warriors way, however a deep and balanced roster on both slides of the ball for Coach Davis should allow Sherwood to run through the region.
3A State Title Game Prediction
Jamie: Damascus vs. Sherwood
Cole: Chesapeake-AA vs Damascus
3A State Title Winner Prediction
Jamie: Damascus Swarmin’ Hornets
Cole: Chesapeake-AA Cougars
