Washington Catholic Athletic Conference (WCAC)
Bishop McNamara Mustangs
2024 Record: 3-14
It was another down year for the Mustangs in 2024, and as we turn the page to 2025 we should see some younger talent start to come into their own. Replacing standout two-ways in Rocco Gilbert and David Shieh will be tough, however, the Mustangs return a slew of depth, especially on the offensive side that should make some noise with another year under their belt in 2025. The junior class is deep and talented, led by Kamryn Knott, Ashton Strobridge, Willis Coppedge, Anthony Fleites, Tyrone Leach, and Tre Shepard all looking to build off of their sophomore campaigns. Look for Seniors Noah Hamilton and Zion Green to fill shoes as well on the offensive side. On the bump, look for another strong year from Senior Noah Hamilton who will look to take over the "ace" role, followed by Fleites on the back end.
Lack of pitching depth may still be the thorn in the side for the Mustangs in 2025, however, this fairly balanced lineup with Junior juggernauts may cause for some exciting play at McNamara this spring.
DeMatha Catholic Stags
2024 Record: 25-6
DeMatha has been one of the most successful programs across the state of Maryland for years, and since 1970, the storied program has won the most WCAC titles with 22. Entering 2025, the Stags see six departures from the 2024 team (all playing in college) and will look onto some younger talent to play bigger roles this spring. Offensively, the Stags return explosive talent with the likes of Bud Coombs (Maryland), Brooks Franklin (Navy), Jayden Dennis (Clarion), Bryce Palms (Youngstown State) and Matthew Calabrese to anchor the middle of the order. To add on to the explosiveness, Sophomore standout Franklin Zerpa transfers in from Walter Johnson and should add a huge spark in the lineup as well. On the bump, look for Seniors Gabriel Chapman (McDaniel) and Palms to anchor the front end of the rotation, with depth provided by seniors Luke Brabazon and Wesley Hall, along with an exciting sophomore in Grayson Candy.
The departures of six impact players from 2024 makes it interesting to see how the Stags will match up in a once again loaded conference, however, the offensive onslaught should provide plenty of spark throughout the spring for Coach Steve Miller and DeMatha. The contributions from Coombs and Franklin are almost a given day in and day out, and it should be exciting to see the likes of Dennis, Calabrese, Palms and Zerpa filling bigger roles in 2025.

Good Counsel Falcons
2024 Record: 18-9
It will be a new look for Coach Ballance and the Falcons in 2025 following the departures of a slew of impact players from a year ago, with the likes of Jackson Inman, Jake Plainte, Ethan Bell, Alex Bergen and Danny Montero all graduated. A successful 2024 campaign adds confidence to this stroried program as we enter 2025, and to replicate that success will mean that younger talent will need to step up and fill some larger roles this spring. The emergence of young bucks such as Brendan Spivock, Ryan Noll and Andrew Bezak should help add some depth to the lineup, as the return of Jack Morin (McDaniel) and Christian Rodriguez should be a staple in the middle of the order.
Filling the shoes of Jake Plainte, Alex Bergen, Danny Montero and Ethan Bell on the bump is no easy task, however, look for Senior Colby Bluestein (Tampa) and sophomore Santiago Bundy-Garcia to take that next step this spring. Younger arms will need to fill some innings and look for the experience to pay dividends as the spring rolls on
St. Mary's Ryken Knights
2024 Record: 15-11
It was an exciting year for Ryken in 2024 that saw the emergence of younger talent such as Austin Michael and Lucas Sigafoose who really came into their own throughout the spring. The Knights return their top four bats in 2025, led by the aforementioned Austin Michael at the top, followed by Seniors AJ Stefko and Jason Gregory (Eastern) with Sigafoose most likely in the four-hole again this spring. Look for some younger talent, as well as Senior Donovan Brown (CCBC-Essex) to add depth throughout.
Pitching depth will be the question mark heading into 2025, as the Knights lose the services of top arms in Samuel Canady, Cole Kingsbury, Colby Brown and Garrett Hudson. Two Senior arms return in Austin Wood and Gavin Sherman who should gain on another year of experience as we enter 2025.
This offense is exciting, especially at the top, and the uncommitted talent in Austin Michael and Lucas Sigafoose makes for this team to be a follow throughout the spring.
