CH Flowers cruise to victory

The CH Flowers Jaguars took home the 4A South championship with a tend run fourth inning and five innings of no-hit baseball from Trey Cobb en route to a 15-0 victory over Parkdale HS.

The Jaguars scored early and often in the game, Adding runs in every inning played. The game was close to start, as Flowers scored one run in the first and second innings. In the first, after two walks, Thomas Espinosa drove a deep double to right field, plating the first run for Flowers. The second inning saw Flowers score off the bat of Jaydon Whitehead, who knocked a single scoring one.

After Flowers scored two in the third, they exploded for 10 runs in the fourth inning, seeing their first nine batters of the inning reach base safely. Cobb got the inning started with a two run double to right center, then later in the inning with another double to left field. Espinosa would add another double scoring two as well in the big inning.

Cobb was dominant in the start for Flowers, striking out 11 while walking four. He was 2-for-3 on the day with four RBI. Espinosa was 3-for-4 with four RBI as well. Bryce Wingate and Whitehead each added two hits apiece.

Barons win in late inning heroics over Quince Orchard.

The Bethesda Chevy Chase Barons got a walk off double off the bat of Nils Townsend in the bottom of the eighth inning to win the 4A West championship over fellow Montogmery county foe Quince Orchard by a score of 2-1.

Quince Orchard would strike first in the game, scoring off an error to take an early 1-0 lead. BCC would strike back in the fifth inning to tie it up on a Drew Packs single to left.

The game remained tied at 1 through seven innings as both teams starting pitchers, Brendan Hughes for BCC, and Garrett Beloff for QO pitched effectively for both teams holding the opposing offenses at bay for the game into extras.

After Hughes got BCC through the top of the eighth inning, the Barons would get two runners on base after an error got Aaron Taylor to reach base and Joe Eisenberg singled. That brought up Townsend, who drove a ball deep to left field over the outfielders head, scoring Taylor and commencing the dog-pile.

Severna Park hang on to defeat Leonardtown

In a foggy night cap at Blandair Regional park, Severna Park proved too much for the Leonardtown Raiders as the Falcons take the 4A South region championship with a 9-7 win.

Severna Park got the scoring started in the bottom of the second loading the bases and drawing a walk to get their first run across. Then with two out, AJ Weyant drove in two more runs with a single to right center and making the score 3-0. Leonardtown would respond with a run of their own in the bottom of the third inning off a wild pitch to make the score 3-1 after three complete.

In the top of the fifth, Severna Park would then score two more runs in the frame, highlighted by a RBI singles from the bats of Nick Horgan and Cam Clark. heading to the bottom of the fifth, Severna Park had a 5-1 lead.

Leonardtown would respond quickly in the bottom of the fifth after Tyler Taitano led off the inning with a single, Nick Burch drove a double to deep left field, scoring Taitano from first base. Burch would advance to third base, and later score on a double play with no out to make the score 5-3 heading to the sixth.

In the sixth inning Leonardtown was able to get two quick outs and the third hitter of the inning sent a well-hit fly ball to center field. The Leonardtown outfielder lost the ball in the fog and as a result, Severna Park had a runner at third base. Next hitter Luke Guy sent a line drive to right center to make the score 6-3.

Leonardtown would again respond in the bottom of the frame, this time loading the bases with no out. Severna Park would go to senior Kody Milton (Maryland) to come in relief of start Evan Lewis. Milton would get two quick strikeouts which brought the Raiders hottest hitter, Burch to the plate. With two strikes, Burch ripped a single up the middle, knocking in two and cutting the Severna Park lead to 6-5. Milton then got out of the inning to leave the score at that.

With one out in the top of the seventh and a runner at second, Severna Park second baseman Clark drove a double to right field off the wall, knocking in one and making the score 7-5. After a swinging bunt base hit and an out, Falcons George Lesher knocked in two with a single to center, providing two more insurance runs for Severna Park and making it a 9-5 ballgame.

Again Leonardtown would respond in the seventh inning. After two quick outs to start the frame, Leonardtown would get the next two runners on base. With those runners at second and third, Owen Ziemba knocked a single to right, scoring both runners, cutting the lead to 9-7. That was as much as the Raiders could muster as Milton would get the final out of the game on a fly ball to seal the victory.

Clark, Guy, and Lesher, each paced the Falcon offense with a hit apiece and two RBI. Weyant was 2-for-2 with two RBI.

Burch led Leonardtown, going 3-for-3 with three RBI. Ziemba was 2-for-4 with two RBI while Taitano was 3-for-4.
