Now that we are getting closer to the second Wednesday of November and the early signing period for the class of 2016, PBR Maryland will begin breaking down player commitments across the state.

With this edition of the 2016 class we turn to Elliot Zoellner, the No. 3 player in the PBR Maryland State Rankings. The right-handed pitcher had a quiet junior campaign with St. Mary???s, but was able to really show off his stuff over the summer getting up to as high as 92 mph while playing with Evoshield. Zoellner will anchor a talented pitching staff at St. Mary???s this year as they enter their first year in the MIAA ???A??? conference. He will spend his college career playing for Coach John Szefc at the University of Maryland in the Big Ten conference

Scouting Report

(2/21/2015) Long and athletic frame at 6-foot-2 175-pounds. A very projectable pitcher. Throws from a high ¾ arm angle with very quick arm speed and free arm action. Displays smooth rhythm and ball jumps out of his hand with regular effort. Fastball has life with some run at 89 mph. Showed a few fastballs with late cut. Breaking ball has sharp movement with 10/4 action and potential to be a power pitch at 74-76 mph.  Shows fastball arm speed on changeup and the pitch had good sink on it at 77-79 mph. Live arm and looks to have more in tank as he fills in frame and matures.

Outlook

Zoellner was a highly sought after arm this summer after holding off on making his college decision. It ended up paying off nicely for both Elliott and the University of Maryland. Zoellner could easily be considered as one of the most electric arms in the state and even the Mid-Atlantic region. Before his career is over as a Terp Zoellner should more-than-likely appear in the rotation. Has stuff that he could make a contribution as a freshmen as well. There is still plenty of untapped potential in the arm as he fills out his frame and adds some strength.
