The Commitment Corner spotlights those Maryland high school student-athletes who have made their decision on where to play their college baseball. This is a unique opportunity to get to know several of the states top talent and gain insight into their recruitment process and ultimately what made them choose the school they did.  Today we speak with: Jamison Covey

COMMITMENT: UNIVERSITY OF MISSISSIPPI

PBR MD:  List any awards / accolades you received in high school.

  • National Honor Society, Spanish National Honor Society, Preseason All-State, Second Team All-State, First Team All-Conference 2x

PBR MD:  Why did you choose Ole Miss?

  • I was looking for a program that I could excel and win championships with. I had a goal of playing in a power five conference with the SEC or ACC being at the top of the list. When I went down to Mississippi and visited Ole Miss last summer I fell in love with the school and baseball program. The atmosphere is phenomenal as they average over 8,500 fans a game. The campus is beautiful, and the coaching staff was genuine and told me everything, even the things I necessarily didn’t want to hear but I knew would make me better.

PBR MD:  What do you plan to major in at Ole Miss?

  • Finance

PBR MD:  What are some of your goals you would like to achieve at Ole Miss?

  • Make the Dean’s List all four years, make the SEC All-Academic team, win an SEC Championship, and Win a National Championship.

PBR MD:  What are your plans this summer to get ready for school?

  • I’ve decided to play with a well known travel team out of Mississippi this summer called East Coast Baseball. They are known all across the country and had several guys drafted in this years MLB draft. I'm going down to play for the month of June and plan on winning a WWBA National Championship with them.

PBR MD:  Are you playing summer baseball? If yes, who are you planning to play for?

  • East Coast Baseball

PBR MD:  What other schools recruited you?

  • East Carolina University, James Madison University, Gardner Webb, Mount St Mary’s

PBR MD:  What was your favorite part about the recruiting process?

  • I like pressure so when there are 15 scouts with guns behind the plate, that was pretty exciting. But my overall favorite part of the recruiting process would have to be getting to know the Ole Miss coaching staff and recruits.
