The 2015 Prep Baseball Report Maryland Fall Review took place over the month of October covering the PBR Maryland area of coverage. 50 prospects from Delaware and Maryland area in the 2016-2019 class put their ability on display in front of the PBR scouting staff.

Over the course of the week we will be releasing the positional analysis articles with scouting reports on each player and identifying the top performers. We shall identify top performers along with a younger talent (2018, 2019) as a Future Watch if applicable. 

Today we look at the catchers that participated in the event. There was a talented group of catchers in attendance and tough to separate some of these talents. Let’s take a look at the participants.

TOP PERFORMERS

Dylan Nepert C Col. Richardson 2016
Solid and athletic frame at 6-foot-1, 195-pounds. Ran a 7.42 60-yard dash. Hits from an open setup. Slightly closes off after short stride and load. Level bat path with extension through contact and quick bat speed. Gets nice lower half involvement and displays balance throughout swing. Pull side power potential. Exit velocity of 92 mph. Receives from nice base with soft hands. Sound footwork and a clean exchange on throws to second. Throws had a velocity of 75 mph with a pop time as low as 2.03.

Colton Repp C Saint James 2016
Athletic frame with some length at 6-foot-3, 183-pounds.  Hits from an athletic set up.  Small load with short leg kick to balance. Has a level swing path with some extension.  Shows some bat speed. Consistently gets barrel on the ball. Some lower half usage, could get more. Exit velocity of 80 mph (best is 82 on 6.24). Receives from solid base behind the plate. Shows nice hip control in blocking.  Has a clean exchange with a short arm action, throwing from a high three-quarter arm angle.  Shows a catcher velocity of 73 mph.  Pop time got as low as 2.02. Ran a 7.57 60-yard dash.

Luca Tesselli C St. Maria Goretti 2016
Solid Frame at 5-foot-10, 185-pounds. Ran a 7.20 60-yard dash. Hits from slightly open setup. Good rhythm in swing. Short load and small stride. Short swing with extension through contact and some bat speed. Middle approach with some pop to the pull side. Nice balance and lower half. Exit velocity of 81 mph. Clean exchange with a short arm action throwing from a ¾ arm slot. Clean footwork on throws. Catcher velocity of 73 mph with a lowest pop time of 2.05. Nice hip control in blocks.

FUTURE WATCH

Cameron Blankenship C North East 2018
Athletic lanky frame at 6-foot-2 167-pounds. Runs a 7.50 60-yard dash. Hits from an athletic set up. Short leg kick with small load. Has level swing path with some bat speed. Pull type hitter with gap-to-gap potential.  Gets on back leg through swing. Nice balance throughout swing. Exit velocity of 84 mph. Has quick feet and exchange out of the crouch. Quick jump turn and short arm action throwing from and almost over-the-top arm slot. Pop times got as low as 1.97 and ranged to 2.03. 72 mph position velocity. Good hip control and quick from behind.

Jason Aldred C Wise 2017
Solid frame at 5-foot-9 180-pounds. Runs a 7.62 60-yard dash. Hits from a slightly open set up with short load and small leg kick. Has short path to the ball with average bat speed.  Has some lower half usage and could get more out of legs. Gap-to-gap type hitter with an exit velocity of 75 mph. Nice hands behind the plate receiving.  Sticks ball well.  Narrow base from crouch.  Quick, clean exchange. Has short arm action throwing from a high three-quarter arm slot.  Throws have average carry on them at 68 mph. Pop times range from 2.08 – 2.19.  

Ben Burgan C Boonsboro 2018
Solid frame at 5-foot-11, 175-pounds. Runs a 7.41 60-yard dash. Hits from a slightly closed setup. Small load with short stride. Level swing path with average bat speed. Spray style hitter with balance throughout his swing. Exit velocity of 75 mph. Quick and clean exchange behind the plate. Has a short arm action throwing from a three-quarter arm angle. Quick footwork and squares up well on throws. 67 mph catcher velocity with pop time at 2.30.

Vincent Ceci C St. John's Catholic 2016
Compact frame at 5-foot-8 167-pounds. Ran a 7.78 60-yard dash. Hits from a square setup. Short stride with level swing path and average bat speed. Could get more lower half usage.  Displays good balance throughout swing and a nice contact type hitter.  Exit velocity of 75 mph. Receives from square stance with nice base. Short arm action throwing from an over-the-top arm angle. Quick exchange and throws have some carry at 70 mph.

John Kampes C Rising Sun 2018
Athletic frame with room fill out at 5-foot-10, 155-pounds. Runs a 7.55 60-yard dash. Hits from a tall, slightly open setup. Short load and stride to balance. Has a level swing path with some bat speed. Pull type hitter. Uses lower half well. Exit velocity of 85 mph. Quiet receiver with soft hands. Quick and clean exchange with a short arm action throwing from a ¾ arm slot. Throws were accurate at 73 mph. Pop time as low as 2.01.

Jack McCann C Glasgow (DE) 2017
Compact frame at 5-foot-9, 165-pounds. Ran a 7.56 60-yard dash. Hits from a tall slightly open setup. Smooth load with short stride. Level swing path with some extension. Shows some bat speed with a gap-to-gap hitting style. Nice balance in swing and gets lower half involved. Exit velocity of 83 mph. Has active feet from the infield with clean hands and exchange. Short arm action throwing from a high ¾ arm angle. Had infield velocity of 74 mph. Receives from nice base behind the plate. Sticks ball well. Clean exchange and quick release. Could get more consistent with glove side on throws. Falls slightly toward third base side on throws. Throws were accurate at 72 mph. Pop time got as low as 2.13.

Zach Savage C Cape Henlopen (DE) 2018
Athletic frame to fill out at 5-foot-10, 140-pounds. Ran a 7.99 60-yard dash. Hits from a tall, slightly open setup. Smooth load with short stride. Short swing path that gets slightly uphill. Nice rhythm and good balance throughout swing. Receives from a solid base. Quick exchange. As footwork becomes more consistent should increase the arm strength and accuracy on throws with better balance. Quick arm action throwing from a ¾ arm angle. Velocity behind the plate of 68 mph with a pop time as low as 2.33.
