Last month PBR Maryland had a poll out for the fans to vote for the Game of the Year in 2015. Five games were selected from the Maryland playoffs, most back and forth affairs that provided the same excitement and suspense as a blockbuster movie. Here are the candidates:

+1A Semi-Finals: McDonough v. Colonel Richardson
+2A Semi-Finals: Southern v. South Carroll
+3A State Championship: Chopticon v. Mount Hebron
+MIAA “B” Semi-Finals: St. Mary’s v. Boys’ Latin
+MIAA “A” Semi-Finals: Calvert Hall v. Mount. St. Joseph

In a landslide with nearly 50% of the votes, the 2A State Semi-Final game between Southern and South Carroll wins the Game of the Year for 2015. Coming in second with just below 20% of the votes was St. Mary’s vs. Boys’ Latin MIAA “B” Semi-Final game.

The Southern-South Carroll game was an exciting extra inning effort after South Carroll tied the game in the bottom of the seventh inning. The game continued into the 11th where Southern would eventually get the win after a gutty performance on the mound by Truman Thomas, keeping Southern in the game after numerous South Carroll rallies.

Southern is setting their sights on a three-peat for the 2A state championship this upcoming 2016 season. Senior Dillon Waters will be called upon to make up for the loss of Thomas, who is now a freshmen at the University of Maryland. Another key loss for the Bulldogs is the departure of head coach Frank Hood, who is now calling the shots at Arundel HS.
