Ryan Calvert (La Plata) and Josh Olsufka (Marriotts Ridge) faced off with a regional championship on the line on Monday afternoon. Calvert started off the first hot by striking out the first two batters he faced. Olsufka stepped to the plate in the three hole and homered to get the Mustangs on the board. Olsufka was dialed in from the start retiring the first six hitters he faced, including striking out the side in the second.

The Warriors line up came alive in the bottom of the third when they sent all nine batters to the plate and knocked Olsufka out of the game. Jarrod Schimtz led off with a walk and advanced on a wild pitch, David Hayes singled driving in the run to tie the game. The Warriors were not done, Joey Binns walked setting up first and second for the top of the order. Olsufka attempted a pick off at second that went arry and both runners advanced. Dean Kirby grounded out to second to drive in the run from third. Paytyn Gray singled, bringing Calvert to the plate who delivered the big blow with a two rbi home run. After the third La Plata had regained the lead 5-1. The third inning would prove to be all that the Warriors needed to win.

The mustangs would scratch across another run in the fifth when Cole Brown singled, he would score on consecutive ground balls to second base and a throwing error from third.

Calvert remained dominant to throw a complete game finishing allowing four hits, one earned run and 10 strikeouts. Olsufka would finish with four strikeouts in a tough loss. Reliever Ryan Lee pitched the last 3.2 innings of scoreless work striking out four.
