MD 2017 Rankings: By the Numbers

Last week we updated the class of 2017 ranking in Maryland while expanding to the top 190 in the Maryland / Delaware Area. Not much movement overall, except at the No. 1 spot with Riverdale Baptist Harold Cortijo riding a hot summer into the fall and vaulting to the top spot. Today we take a deeper look inside the number on the rankings.

+ Only four uncommitted players remain in the current top 50 of the rankings with Brendan Collins, Emir Garrett, Brandt Penuel, and Michael Yuille.

+ 73 of the top 190 are currently committed.

+ University of Maryland made sure to keep the best players close to home with four of the top five players in the rankings committed to the Terps and six of the Top 20. Those six are the most of any college.

+ Of the 72 committed, 59% (43 of 73) are attending a school outside the Maryland / Delaware area

+ Over half (38 of 73) of the players are committed to Division I Programs

+ Two players in the Top Ten are committed to Junior Colleges (Cortijo, Colin Adams).

+ Abraham Mow (Slippery Rock) is the top Division II committed player at No. 24.

+ Matthew Gibbs (Roanoke College) is the top ranked Division III commit at No. 50.

+ Calvert Hall leads all schools with eight players in the 2017 rankings.

+ Northwest has the most public school players ranked with six and is second overall.

+ Archbishop Spalding, Georgetown Prep, Loyola Blakefield, Old Mill, and Parkside are all tied for third with five players in the rankings.

+ Riverdale Baptist has two players (Cortijo, Brandon Dorsey) inside the Top Ten, Parkside has two players inside the Top 20.

+ UMBC, Harford CC, Maryland Eastern Shore, and USC-Sumter JC  have the second most players Maryland / Delaware players committed with three each.
