We continue our deep dive into the MD/DE Class of 2026 with a look at five players who make their first appearance in our rankings.
In the coming weeks, our staff will continue to highlight each class with video and spotlights of specific players who should be on coaches radars throughout the summer months. Below you will find scout notes and video on five key uncommitted players in the 2026 class.

Kai Schmelzer C / 3B / Wootton , MD / 2026Rankings StateRank: 7 / POS: 2
One of the marquee names to keep eyes on throughout this 2026 class is Schmelzer; a wiry, athletic backstop who was a standout at our MD Preseason All-State II event in February. The actions behind the dish are advanced, utilizing quick feet and excellent blocking ability on balls in the dirt. At the dish, the foot gets down early with solid weight transfer and some quickness in the hands that transfers to hard line drive tendencies to the middle. As the frame continues to fill, look for Schmelzer to be a doubles machine with advanced defense as his high school years prolong.

Brayden Redmond 1B / LHP / Red Lion Christian, MD / 2026Rankings StateRank: 18 / POS: 2
If you're looking for advanced physicality in this 2026 class, look no further than Redmond; an ultra-athletic 6-foot-3, 185 pound first baseman with big time power from the left side. After an intriguing first look at the big fella at a scout day in February, Redmond transferred extremely well to the Spring season, slashing .400 with an OBP of over .450. The ability to catch it out on front with advanced strength to the pull side should have college coaches not only raving over the hit tool, but the overall athleticism and frame as well.

Kaleb Kennedy 3B / RHP / John Carroll, MD / 2026Rankings StateRank: 20 / POS: 1
We got to see a ton of Kennedy over the winter and the two-way ability certainly stuck out on a consistent basis. The frame is athletic at 6-foot-1, 175 pounds with plenty of room to fill out and add strength. Possessing true two-way ability, Kennedy showcases strong line drive tendencies at the dish with explosive hands (75.5 bat speed) that look to transfer to big power numbers in the near future. It's a three pitch mix on the bump with developing secondary and an arm that looks to be starter profile. Big summer ahead.

Pierce Quinn RHP / OF / John Carroll, MD / 2026Rankings StateRank: 27 / POS: 2
Possessing some of the most raw talent in this class, Quinn's two-way ability shined at this year's Preseason All-State II, running the fastball up to 86.1 with high spin on both the fastball and curveball (2353 and 2718). The bat is special as well, staying true to a loud gap-to-gap approach with backspin created to the pull side. Standing at 6-foot, 170 pounds, look for the frame to continue to fill out.

Tre McInnes C / RHP / Patterson Mill, MD / 2026Rankings StateRank: 42 / POS: 9
Standing at a projectable 5-foot-11, 170 pounds, McInnes has plenty of strength at the dish with pull side tendencies that create consistent backspin. It's a short stroke with evident awareness for the barrel that bodes well for high contact rates throughout the coming years. Really like this frame and as athleticism continues to be added, look for McInnes to climb through these rankings.
