Wednesday night featured a pivotal game as Indian Creek went on the road and traveled to McCurdy Field in Frederick to face off against St. John's Catholic Prep in a huge MIAA "B" Conference showdown.

SJCP opened the scoring in the second inning with some help from the Indian Creek defense as the Eagles made three pivotal errors that led to two SJCP runs to take a 2-0 lead at the end of two. In the third, Sophomore infielder Branden Pershin came through with a two-out single to right field to extend the SJCP lead to 3-0. The Vikings would strike again in the fourth as Junior corner infielder Josh Skowronski (Kentucky) unloaded on one for a solo homerun, before an RBI single by Senior right-handed pitcher and shortstop Kyle Pershin (Marietta) to make the score 5-0. Kyle Pershin would strike again in the sixth, notching two more RBI with a single into center field to extend the lead to 7-0. Indian Creek would fight back slightly through the last two innings, scoring a run in each, but would come up short as SJCP took this one 7-2.

Nick Pratt C / OF / Indian Creek, MD / 2023

The physical catcher continues to prove time and time again why he is highly regarded as one of the top uncommitted backstops across the Old Line State. Hits from a slightly crouched, balanced stance with minimal movement in the hands pre-pitch. Creates solid hand separation, utilizing a smooth, fluid back load with solid weight transfer to the back leg. The hands work quick and explosive through the zone, creating nice barrel whip with a slightly uphill path to contact. Stays behind the ball well, consistently lacing hard line drives to the middle of the field with evident pop to the pull side. Behind the dish, Pratt showcases quick, active feet with clean transfers and a strong, accurate arm. In the game against St. John’s Catholic Prep, Pratt tallied a 2-for-3 day with a walk and two loud singles into center field.

William Pershin RHP / Saint Johns Catholic Prep, MD / 2022

There’s a ton to like from the athletic, wiry Marietta College commit, showcasing the ability to get it done in all phases of the game against Indian Creek. Got the start on the bump for St. John’s Catholic Prep, working five plus innings, giving up one earned run on two hits while striking out eight. After a shaky first inning with command, Pershin really settled down through his next four plus innings of work, pounding the zone with intent and showcasing the ability to mix the FB/CB in any count for strikes. The arm works quick through release from a close to over the top slot, getting over the front side well and working downhill consistently. The fastball worked to both sides of the plate effectively at 79-81, topping out at 82 a couple times. The curveball was thrown with confidence, showcasing big 12/6 shape with some sharpness at 68-71.

The University of Kentucky commit is one of those players that your eyes lock onto each time you see him play. The physicality is present, showcasing present athleticism in all phases of the game. Hits from a balanced, slightly crouched stance with rhythm in the hands pre-pitch. Utilizes a smooth, quick back load with solid hand separation and a powerful uphill swing path. Quick, explosive hands through the zone, creating excellent lift with evident strength to the pull side gap. Finished the game against Indian Creek 1-for-1 with three walks and a loud solo homerun to right-center field.
