Monday night featured an intriguing matchup between a high powered offense in John Carroll from Maryland as they traveled to "The First State" to take on Caravel Academy out of Delaware.

John Carroll came out of the gates hot in the Top of the 1st, scoring four runs to take an early 4-0 lead, led by RBI singles by Junior shortstop Ethan Ruiz and Freshman Will Rhine (Maryland). Junior Frank Adamski (Coastal Carolina) also added an RBI double in the inning. In the bottom half of the first, Caravel Academy fought back, putting up their own four spot, led by a two RBI single off the bat of Sophomore Timmy Tyler. That was as close as the game got, as the Patriot offense put up a six spot in the second inning, three more in the third and three in the seventh, winning it 16-6.

John Carroll was led at the plate by Adamski (Coastal Carolina) going 4-for-5 with six RBI, including two doubles and a triple. Junior Griffin Shirk also had a huge night, tallying three hits in his four at-bats including three extra base hits. Jack Burton, Austin Hofmann, Ethan Ruiz and Will Rhine tallied two hits a piece to balance out the lineup. Caravel Academy was led at the plate by Timmy Tyler as he added two hits and two RBI for the Buccaneers.

Casey Carpenter 3B / 1B / John Carroll , MD / 2025

We have seen Carpenter time and time again over the years; and as a standout player on our PBR Junior Future Games in both 2020 and 2021, we knew the skillset was special. Monday night's game was no different as he laced a double down the left field line in his first at-bat. Really like the rhythm in the hands at the dish, incorporating a bigger leg kick load with solid separation in the hands. The weight shifts to the backside well, getting the foot down in time with plenty of whippy bat speed through contact. Stays short to the ball with a more level bat path, occasionally creating some natural lift through the zone. Showcases consistent doubles power to the pull side, with much more to come as the frame continues to fill out and more and more strength is added. A player to watch and keep an eye on for sure out of a loaded 2025 class across the Old Line State.

Ethan Ruiz SS / 2B / John Carroll, MD / 2023

The uncommitted shortstop continues to impress on both sides of the ball each and every time we see him. The barrel control and “sneaky” pull side pop is eye-opening, consistently spraying the ball to all fields with authority, with evident strength to the middle of the field. The approach is advanced, staying within himself with strong line drive tendencies. Incorporates a bigger leg kick load, shifting the weight nicely to the back leg with quick bat speed through contact. The barrel stays level consistently, creating occasional natural lift through contact and looks to do damage when ahead in the count. Defensively, the feet are quick with solid lateral range and a strong, accurate arm across the diamond. Notched two hits on Monday night, including a long double off the right field fence.

Griffin Shirk 1B / OF / John Carroll, MD / 2023

A player that is quickly opening eyes across the state and continues to showcase the ability to hit for both a high average and power at the dish. Hitting leadoff for a loaded John Carroll lineup, Shirk possesses a keen ability to get the barrel to any pitch in the zone, showcasing solid barrel awareness and strong line drive tendencies to the whole field. The strength is to the pull side for now, but projects to be a high doubles guy to both gaps at the next level. Incorporates quick, fluid hands through contact with a more level bat path, staying balanced throughout with a quick first step out of the box. Possesses a ton of positional versatility, playing center field for the Patriots on a consistent basis with the ability to play both corner outfield spots and first base as well. Finished the night 3-for-4 with three extra base hits and four runs scored.

Beau Cox 3B / 1B / Caravel Academy (DE), MD / 2022

The Chestnut Hill College commit stands out at first glance by the brute physicality and evident strength in the 6-1, 185 pound frame. Hits from a balanced stance at the plate with some bend in the knees pre-pitch. Utilizes a shorter, quick leg kick stride, getting the foot down on time with explosion in the hands through the zone. The hands stay inside the ball really well, showcasing barrel awareness and the ability to create solid natural lift through contact. Consistently found the barrel all night long, just missing a few pitches early on, finally connecting for a loud double to left center field. The strength to the pull side is evident.

Miguel Herb C / OF / Caravel Academy (DE), MD / 2024

Timmy Tyler 1B / LHP / Caravel Academy (DE), MD / 2024

A ton to like out of the physical 6-0, 180 pound first baseman. Hits from a balanced, tall stance with minimal hand movement pre-pitch, synching into the lower half well with a quick, medium sized leg kick stride. Stays behind the ball well, utilizing a more level path to contact with evident strength to the middle of the field. Showcases some quick twitch actions at the plate, showcasing the ability to be direct with the hands with some extension through contact. Led the Buccaneers offense with two hits and two RBI on the night.
