Maryland JUCO Conference Rundown: Week 3

WEEK 3 MARYLAND JUCO CONFERENCE RUNDOWN
Team of the Week: Our first installment of Maryland JUCO "Team of the Week" goes to Allegany College of Maryland. The Trojans traveled to Virginia over the weekend and swept a four game set over Thomas Nelson CC outscoring the Gators 53-23. Head Coach Mike Carter and Allegany are now 6-4 on the young season with several big conference games coming up in Week 4. Runner up this week goes to CCBC Catonsville. The Cardinals returned home after starting the year 1-5 in Florida with a huge three game sweep over Sussex County CC (NJ). Strong starting pitching and some timely hitting have the Cardinals sitting 4-5 heading into their conference opener Tuesday against rival CCBC Essex. Allegany and CCBC Catonsville will also meet on Saturday for a double header at the "Nest".
A look ahead to Week 4: Harford CC opens week 4 with a big double header at home on Monday against NJCAA DII powerhouse Mercer County CC (NJ). The games were originally scheduled for Saturday. While Southern Maryland and Prince George's officially opened up conference play on Sunday with a split, Tuesday signals the real beginning with six more teams scheduled for action. CCBC Essex will travel to CCBC Catonsville, Cecil College heads CCBC Dundalk, and Anne Arundel travels to Harford CC. Another rivalry is renewed Thursday when Garrett College heads to Allegany College of Maryland for a nine inning game that has both Maryland JUCO Conference and NJCAA DII Region implications. Montgomery College also gets in the action with a double header set for Saturday at CCBC Dundalk.
Frederick CC wraps up its Florida swing on Friday and will stop in North Carolina on Sunday for a double header against Caldwell Tech CC on their way home. Meanwhile, Hagerstown CC begins their 14 game Florida trip in Vero Beach on Friday and Chesapeake College heads to Myrtle Beach, SC for six games Friday through Sunday.
Southern Maryland, Prince George's CC, and Anne Arundel also host double headers Saturday.
