2021 Season Snapshot

The Lions struggled early last season finishing winless up until Coivd-19 ended everyone's season prematurely. Second year head coach Matt Backert returns another young squad this season with just seven returners and close to 30 freshman and transfers incoming.

On the mound, Nuemann University commit Nate Griffin returns as the ace alongside fellow returner and veteran leader Jake Brack. Also looking to provide much needed depth on the bump this year are Kyle Hansel, George Moore, Garrett College transfer Ben Hall and freshman Timothy Crawford

Brack also will be a key piece in the everyday lineup this year for the Lions with Misericordia transfer Mike Newsome providing pop in the middle of the order. A trio of freshman catchers in Matt Fino, Doyle McNew, and Chaney Skeans will get early opportunities to lead the staff behind the dish as well as contribute in the lineup. Hall will also provide depth in the outfield outside of his duties on the mound and fellow returners Hansel and Nick White will be looked upon to make an impact offensively.

Along with cracking the top eight by seasons end to qualify for the Region 20 DII Tournament, setting the tone once again for the future will be the key goal for Backert. CCBC Dundalk opens on March 2nd at home against Cecil College and faces a tough opening month with nine conference opponents (seven of which are DII region opponents), further increasing the need to get off to a better start in 2021.
