Maryland Player of the Year Announced

The 2019 spring high school season in Maryland generated some incredible individual moments and performances throughout all corners of the state. As the spring high school season comes to a close, Prep Baseball Report is excited to announce one player who emerged ahead of the competition at all levels in the state of Maryland. This player has been selected not only for their outstanding statistical numbers, but also for their overall effect on their high school program.
Calvert led La Plata to the MPSSAA 2A State Championship. On the mound, the statistics were unbelievably gaudy, going 8-1 on the season. In 62 innings, Calvert had an ERA of 0.48. Calvert piled up the strikeouts, punching out 121 batters, good for a season average of almost two strikeouts per inning.
At the plate, Calvert was equally important, hitting .444 on the season with 40 RBI and 5 home runs on the season with 13 2B and 10 SB.
Calvert's all-around performance, as well as the impact he has had for La Plata High School, has earned him the 2019 Prep Baseball Report Maryland Player of the Year honors.
Ryan Calvert has been selected by the staff of Prep Baseball Report of Maryland. The team of PBR area scouts who covered the high school baseball season throughout the spring selected Calvert amongst a strong group of candidates from across the state.
