It's hard to believe but the start of the 2019 Maryland high school baseball season is almost here. Every week throughout the season we will release our Power 25, ranking the top twenty-five teams from across the Old Line State. Today we continue our Preseason Power 25 countdown by taking a look at our #12 team, the La Plata Warriors from Charles County. Be sure to stay tuned as we release one team each weekday leading up to the release of our 2019 #1 Preseason Power 25 team on March 19th. Season Snapshot

Under 8th year head coach John Childers, La Plata has soared to new heights making six trips to the State Final Four in the past seven seasons. The Warriors finished as State Semi-Finalists in 2012, 2014, and 2017, State Finalists in 2013 and 2018, and won the State Championship in 2016 for the second time in school history. There is no reason to expect anything other than the Warriors to be in serious contention once again in 2019 for the 2A State Championship as well with several key players back.

La Plata returns three key seniors in Austin Brown, Zach Harris, Dean Kirby, and junior standout Ryan Calvert. Brown had a sensational year at the plate leading the team in hitting with a .540 average to go along with his 9 home runs and 32 RBI's. Calvert (.360 AVG, 1 HR, 25 RBI's, and 18 runs scored), Harris (.338 AVG, 11 RBI's), and Kirby (.219 AVG, 17 RBI's, and 17 runs scored) will also be expected to carry some of the load on offense again this year for the defending Charles County and SMAC Conference Champions.

On the mound, the Warriors will look to Calvert (6-3 W-L, 1.84 ERA, 82 K's in 57 innings pitched) and Kirby (5-1-2 W-L-S, 2.72 ERA, 56 K's in 36 inning of work) as the aces of the staff with Brown, Tyler Moody, and Zach Armstrong figuring to also see plenty of innings and play significant roles on the bump throughout the season. Look for key newcomers Alex Borges. Rico Cuevas, Brandon DeAtley, and Mason Stine to find roles and round out what looks to be another solid team in 2019.
