Season Snapshot

Leonardtown enters the 2019 season with a solid core of returners from last year's SMAC Conference Chesapeake Division Championship and MPSSAA 4A East Regional Finalist team. The Raider lose four-year starter, two-year captain and the spark plug at the top of the lineup from a year ago, Tyler Taitano who is now playing at St. Mary's College of Maryland but return five starters on the offensive side. Senior captain and US Naval Academy commit NIck Burch will lead the offense after an impressive 2018 campaign in which he hit .519 with 15 extra base hits, 23 RBI's and scored 38 runs while stealing 30 bags. INF Matt Bobrowski (.484 AVG, 23 RBI's, 24 runs scored, 23 SB's), OF David Tydings (.436 AVG, 10 RBI's, 15 runs scored), RHP/3B Ethan Ledig (.404 AVG, 22 RBI's, 20 runs scored), and LHP/1B Cole Tarleton also return to help bolster the lineup in 2019. Newcomers Tyler Caldwell and Chase Ogden figure to also find roles in the lineup this year for Leonardtown.

Anchoring the staff for the Raiders in 2019 will be the trio of junior righty Ethan Ledig (6-1 W-L, 2.64 ERA, 6 CG, and 30 SO in 47.2 innings of work), sophomore lefty Cole Tarleton (5-2 W-L, 5.25 ERA, and 31 SO in 30.2 innings of work), and junior righty Al Stumm (3-2-1 W-L-S, 3.85 ERA, and 16 SO in 20 innings of work). Look for lefty newcomer Austin Olszewski to also get some innings on the mound helping to round out a younger but more experienced staff.

With several key returners, the Raiders figure to be contenders for the SMAC Conference title and MPSSAA 4A East Region Championship once again in 2019. 5th year head coach Chris Schoenbauer and Leonardtown will look to avenge last year's postseason loss to eventual state runner-up Severna Park in the 4A East Region Championship game and make it back to Ripken for the state final four like they did last in 2016.
