With seemingly everyone's seasons starting on different dates this spring due to Covid-19, we have decided to create two separate rankings this year based on Public and Private schools. All Maryland Private schools will be considered in this year's weekly PBR Maryland Private Schools Top 10 rankings while only Public schools will be considered in our traditional PBR Maryland Public Schools Power 25. An update to these rankings will continue to be released every Monday throughout the season.

Week 8 Update: Big shake-up in the Private Schools Top 10 as several teams had a rough week. We begin at the top though were Georgetown Prep and Archbishop Spalding remain No. 1 and No. 2 respectively coming off undefeated weeks. Georgetown Prep swept IAC opponent St. Alban's in a three-game series while Spalding defeated McDonogh and John Carroll. With a bunch of teams three through six in last week's rankings suffering multiple losses; DeMatha Catholic rises four spots to No. 3 going 2-0 on the week with wins over Paul VI (VA) and Archbishop Curley.

Gilman and Mount St. Joseph each jump four spots as well this week to No. 4 and No. 5 respectively with relatively solid weeks. The Gaels won two really close one-run ballgames over John Carroll on Tuesday and Archbishop Curley on Thursday to move also into third place in the MIAA Conference standings with just one game left to play. Gilman sandwiched a non-conference loss to Caravel Academy (DE) with wins over St. Mary's and McDonogh sliding them into second place in the MIAA Conference standings. Both teams are neck and neck in our eyes but we give the edge to Gilman by virtue of their two-game series sweep over Mount St. Joseph in the regular season.

Then comes a bunch of teams sliding in this week's rankings beginning with No. 6 Archbishop Curley. The Friars suffered two really close losses in the MIAA this past week to Calvert Hall 3-2 on Tuesday and Mount St. Joseph 2-1 on Thursday. They also lost to DeMatha who is a big riser this week and are just as talented as pretty much everyone else in these rankings which stops them from moving down any further for now. Good Counsel drops three spots this week after going 0-2 with losses to Gonzaga on Tuesday and St. Mary's Ryken 1-0 on Saturday.

It was a tough schedule last week for John Carroll coming off a brief program pause. The Patriots went toe-to-toe with Mount St. Joseph Tuesday on the road before eventually falling 5-4. Facing Spalding on Thursday was a tall task as well but they kept it respectable losing 5-1 and then bounced back to beat McDonogh on Saturday. They drop two spots to No. 8 this week. Coming in at No. 9 after dropping their lone game of the week to Wilson (DC) is Bishop McNamara who the book has yet to be written on. They have an extremely talented roster but seem to have not yet put it all together dropping four spots this week.

And finally, Calvert Hall continues their roller coaster of a season beating Curley on Tuesday to make it eight wins in ten games but then fell at home on Senior Night Friday to St. Mary's 2-0. St. Paul's received consideration again this week as they improve to 14-1 on the season, but their B Conference schedule is hard to compare to several of the teams just opening up in the WCAC and to that of the MIAA A Conference schools that routinely face one-to-two ranked teams each week.
