Part 2 of our Scout Blog from the Maryland Summer Kickoff featuring the Rawlings A's, Maryland Prospects and Dig In Baseball.

DIG IN Baseball

Ethan Brown C Atholton 2019 - Athletic frame with some length. Hits from a slightly open set up at the plate. Short swing path with average bat speed. Slap style approach. Projectable frame to fill out and get stronger.

Max Fisher - Slightly open, crouched setup. Short load with leg kick. Shorter swing path at the plate with quick hands. Stays slightly open on foot strike. Average bat speed. Showed some strength to pull side.

Tommy Lewis SS Chesapeake-AA 2020 -  Lanky projectable frame. Quicker compact delivery with high leg kick. Shorter arm action throwing from a high three quarter slot. Fastball showed late life on the pitch that ranged from 76-78 touching 80 mph. Room for growth in the arm. Breaking ball ranged 66-68 with 11/5 action on the pitch. Threw a few that had nice action. Offensively went 2-for-5 with a double at the plate in two games.  

Ryan Pastor RHP Georgetown Prep 2020 - Controlled delivery with some tempo. Long lanky frame. Free arm action throwing from a three-quarter slot. Fastball has slight cut to the pitch up to 80 mph. Covers ground well in the outfield with some carry on throws. Arm bar load, hitting from a balanced set up. Level swing path at the plate.

Peter Phillips - Compact delivery with some tempo. High leg kick while pitching with effort. Short arm action throwing from a lower three quarter slot. Fastball has slight run to the pitch up to 68-70 mph.  

Zach Senders Bullis 2020 -  Hits from an athletic set up at the plate. Short and simple load to hitting position. Smooth, fluid swing short and direct to the baseball. Spray type hitter just as comfortable pull side as he is opposite field. Hit .500 (3-for-6) with two walks and two RBI’s in teams two games.

Evan Summers OF Northwest 2021 - Smaller compact frame with some strength. Hits from an athletic set up at the plate. Level swing path with some bat speed. Gets around the ball at times and adds length to swing. Hit .333 on the weekend (2-for-6) with a double. Covers ground in the outfield with average arm.

Maryland Prospects

Dorian Allen 2B/SS Archbishop Curley 2019 - Athletic compact frame with room for growth. Hits from an athletic, open set up. Leg kick load to hitting position and stays open in load. Level path with quick hands and average bat speed. Defensively has clean and quick actions in the middle with a confident first step. Shows flashes on both ends. Would like to see more consistency in game as he could be an interesting prospect to keep any eye on.

Jaden Gilbert INF/P Old Mill 2020 - Compact, athletic build with solid frame. Hits from a slightly open set up at the plate. Quick load to hitting position with short bat path and quick hands. Shows some rhythm at the plate. Hit .400 going (4-for-10) in three games with two walks, two RBI’s, and two stolen bases.

Gabe Gonzales INF/P Gilman 2020 - Hits from a taller open setup. Big leg kick load to hitting position, short swing path with bat speed. Stays open to hitting position. Strength is present in hands and swing. Shows pop to pull side. When going opposite field, spins off ball some causing more slice to the field. If he can stay on pitch better to drive, should easily develop good doubles power to the right center gap. Like his skill set and potential at the plate. Led the tournament with five hits going 5-for-10 in three games with a double, triple, two walks, three RBI’s and one stolen base.

Maxx Goff INF/OF Mount St. Joseph 2020 - Hits from an athletic slightly open set up with high hands and flat bat behind. High leg kick load to square hitting position. Level path at the plate with average bat speed. Gets around the ball some wanting to use his strength. Showed good discipline at the plate drawing three walks in two games.

Ethan Kennedy INF/P North County 2020 - Hits from a taller, slightly open set up. Short swing at the plate with average bat speed. On the mound has a more deliberate, build up style delivery. Corkscrew at lift with down to out and cross body action. Shorter arm action throwing from a high three-quarter slot. Fastball is straight and up to 74 mph. Breaking ball has 11/5 shape with gradual action at 62 mph.

Jake Murphy P/3B North County 2019 - Compact quick delivery. Fastball had slight run to the pitch at 73-74 mph. During warm ups fastball ranged from 76-77 mph. High leg kick with average lower half usage. Compact arm action throwing from a three quarter arm slot. Hides ball well and pitches get on hitters. Breaking ball has 11/5 action with later break and potential on the pitch that ranged from 66-69 mph. Hits from a taller set up with shorter path at the plate and average bat speed. Bat gets in and out of the zone.

Josh Nevins C/OF North County 2019 - Pre-sets nice target for pitchers. Good hip control with sway and body control on dirtballs. Hits from a slightly open set up staying open to hitting position. Good eye at the plate drawing three walks as well in two games.

Shayne Smith LHP/1B/OF Old Mill 2019 - Hits from a square setup with high hands. Simple load to hitting position with short swing path at the plate. Spray type hitter with awareness of strike zone - drew two walks in three games. Covers ground well in the outfield. shows sneaky pop at the plate. Could free hands up more to get extension through contact.

Kyle Summers P/C Old Mill 2019 - Deliberate, build up style delivery. Average leg kick and could get more lower half involvement. Projectable frame with room for growth. Fastball had slight run to the pitch at 70-72 mph. Breaking ball had gradual action on the pitch with 11/5 shape at 60-62 mph.

Rawlings A's

Miles Cross OF/RHP Good Counsel 2021 - Athletic frame with strength present. Hits from a tall, slightly open set up with lower handset. Short swing path at the plate and flicks wrists. Rawness to his game and still has to get better feel of strikezone.

Noah DeLuca SS/2B Riverdale Baptist 2021 - Athletic compact frame. Hits from a square athletic set up at the plate. Simple load to hitting position, not much body movement. Short swing path at the plate with quick hands. Spray type hitter who has nice foundation that should develop into some gap power as he gets stronger.

Matthew Herring 1B/LHP North Caroline 2021 -  Controlled compact delivery, keeping dynamic balance. Average leg kick with light lower half involvement. Clean, free arm swing throwing from a three quarter slot with some arm speed. Pitched at 73-74 mph. More in tank with arm speed, length and frame. Shows some pitchability. Breaking ball at 63-65 mph. Carries himself well on the mound with good command for a freshman.

Jeremiah Jenkins 1B/LHP Pallotti 2021 - Physical frame with room for more strength. Hits from a tall, square set up with hands at shoulder level. Simple load with short path at the plate. Strength in hands, handling wood bat well. Shows power potential to middle/pull side in swing. Doesn’t try to do too much and shows potential for future growth out of the freshmen class. Went 2-for-4 in two games with a double, a walk, and two RBI’s.

Daniel Key OF Severna Park 2021 - Projectable solid frame. Taller, slightly open set up. Short swing path direct to the ball, gets around at times. Freed his hands up and made the adjustment in one at bat, putting a good swing on a ball to center.

Hunter King OF/LHP Arundel 2021 - Lanky projectable frame with room to add on. Controlled delivery with tempo. High leg kick getting average lower half involvement. Shows some athleticism in delivery. Longer arm action throwing from an over the top slot. Fastball has slight dive to the pitch that ranged 70-73 mph. Breaking ball has gradual break with 12/6 shape at 57-60. Pitches with some effort. Room for more down the road as he gets stronger.

Cole Meyer RHP/3B Bel Air 2021 -  Deliberate delivery with good tempo. Longer arm swing into a shorter arm action throwing from a three quarter slot. Average lower half usage. Fastball has slight run to the pitch at 70-73, touching 74 mph. Breaking ball has 10/4 sweeping action right now at 58-61 mph. Projectable frame with room for growth. Offensively went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double and two walks.

Logan Scully C St. Mary’s 2021 - Short swing path with quick wrists. Athletics squatty set up. Gets around ball at times. Good patience at the plate.
