Scouting Report

2.5.17 (PBR Super 60) - Maryland recruit. 5-foot-11, 182-pound right-handed hitting outfielder, solid build with well-proportioned strength. Didn't flash the loudest tools at the Super 60, but delivered a strong across-the-board performance. Offensively, has a simple, balanced approach, starts with high hands, generates easy bat speed, maintains excellent balance through contact; works middle of the field effortlessly, made consistent hard contact with lift. Showed more power than the size/frame would indicate. Registered 95 mph exit velocity with wood. Also ran a 6.79 laser-timed 60. Defensively, left-handed thrower, works from long, over-the-top slot, athletic actions, above-average carry on throws, clocked at 89 mph.

2.21.16 - Solid athletic frame at 5-foot-11, 165-pounds. Ran a 6.74 60-yard dash. Hits from an athletic set up with smooth load and leg kick. Has direct swing path to the ball with explosive bat speed. Squared the baseball extremely well during batting practice. Extension through contact with backspin on the ball.  Gap-to-gap style hitter with power. Nice lower half involvement.  Exit velocity of 94 mph. Throws from a high ¾ arm slot with loose arm action.  Clean hands and exchange with active feet.  Works thru the ball very well and throws have life on them at 89 mph. Exciting prospect in the 2017 class.

5.19.15 - 2017 Randy Bednar, a Maryland commit is a legitimate two-way prospect for Landon.  Hits from an athletic base with an even set up.  Was 0-for-1 with two walks and a hit-by-pitch.  Had a short and quick swing.  Uses a quick first step to cover ground in the outfield. Made accurate throw from left-of-center field to the plate on a line to get runner attempting to score from second. On the mound pitches in a fluid delivery with quick rhythm. Throws from a high three-quarter arm angle. Pitched 84-87 with arm-side run. Throws 11/5 big breaking ball at 72 mph.

Scouting Report

2.5.17 (PBR Super 60) - Seminole State JC recruit. 6-foot, 175-pound right-handed pitcher, wiry-thin build, high-level quick-twitch athlete. Flashed raw, high-ceiling potential during his Super 60 bullpen. Easy, athletic, low-effort delivery; looked as though playing a nonchalant game of catch. Arm slot varies between sidearm to lower-3/4 depending on the pitch. Fluid, ultra-quick arm at foot strike, long draw on the backside. Worked his fastball mainly at 87-89 mph from a sidearm slot; but when told to finish up the pen with two fastballs, he popped 93 and 92, respectively. Threw fastball for consistent strikes with late arm-side run. Slider ranged between 71-76 mph, lower-3/4 slot, inconsistent shape, sweeping action, erratic around the zone. Changeup ranged between 69-71, uncertain what exactly it was, erratic shape but a few had knuckle-ish action to it. In all, with more polish and physical development, Cortijo could develop into a high-level pitching prospect down the road.

6.30.16 - Cortijo was one of the surprises of the MSABC Futures Game.  The 6-foot, 170-pound outfielder showed off his arm strength from the outfield showing life and carry on a throw to the plate. Things got interesting when he stepped onto the mound in the final inning of the game.  An athletic arm and fluid delivery created much intrigue to go along with his 87-89 mph fastball that maxed out at 91mph. Cortijo recently moved to Maryland in the late fall/early winter of 2015 from Puerto Rico.

Scouting Report

6.21.17 - Athletic frame at 6-foot, 170-pounds. Controlled, compact build up delivery with higher leg kick to down and out working downhill. Nice lower half involvement with explosive front leg to clear hips. Falls off at times off to first base side. Short arm action throwing from a high three quarter slot. Creates explosive arm speed pitching with effort on the hill. Repeated delivery well and looks to have some more left in the tank as he continues to add strength. Fastball jumped on hitters at 87-89 mph, topping out at 90 mph. Breaking ball is a plus pitch that bottoms out with sharp break and swing and miss ability up to 75 mph. Change up is a work in process, deep grip with some tension. shows some dive on the the pitch at 78 mph.

11.4.15 - Chaney is an athletic player with a very projectable frame. On the mound, the throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a smooth, explosive drop and drive delivery. He has a short, loose arm action and a lightning quick arm. His fastball had late run and sat 78-81, touching 82. His slider has tight, late 11/5 break and ran 66-67. The pitch has the potential to be devastating as he gets stronger and improves the spin rate on it. At the plate, he has a fluid swing and an explosive lower half that generates good bat speed. He is short to the ball and has a line drive approach and uses the entire field well, barreling the ball consistently.

6.30.15 - Lanky and athletic frame at 6-foot 155-pounds. Throws from a high ¾ arm angle with quick arm speed and a sound arm action.  Pitches with some effort.  Level shoulders and falls off towards first base. Has some rhythm in a controlled wind up.  Rushes at time in the stretch. Gets lower half to work, could continue to clear the hips. Fastball has some run to the pitch with command at 82 mph.  Breaking ball has 10/4 action with tight rotation and power potential with near fastball arm speed at 66 mph.  Interesting prospect and projectable frame and one to follow his development.

6.24.15 - Projectable frame at 6-foot 155-pounds.  Has a short arm action throwing from a high ¾ arm slot.  Consistent throws with some carry at 78 mph.  Clean exchange and foundation as infielder that will improve with more active feet.  Offensively hits from a balanced set up with a short stride and average bat speed.  A short path that is in and out of the zone. Pull type hitter right now with potential for ga-to-gap.  Ran a 7.55 60 yard dash.  Interesting prospect on the mound.  From a ¾ arm slot have quick arm speed and a sound arm action pitching at 81 mph.  Has a controlled delivery with some effort and rhythm.  Fastball has late run and command.  Breaking ball has 10-to-4 action and potential to be a power pitch.  Changeup has near fastball arm speed at 71 mph.  Interesting prospect to keep an eye on from the 2019 class.
