NOVA Fall Review: Infield Analysis

In September, players from Virginia, DC, and neighboring states assembled at Patriot High School in Northern Virginia to take part in the NOVA Fall Review. These players were from the Classes of 2019, 2020, 2021. Today we conclude our in-depth analysis of the players who took part in that event with the infielders.

From Virginia/DC

 

 

Blake Fisher SS / RHP / Highland, VA / 2020

Fisher is 5-10 with an athletic frame that has projection left to it. He hits from the left side from a slightly open tall athletic stance, strides on line, short smooth load back, good rhythm, hips rotate completely with some violence, good balance to swing. Very short to ball and quick to it to, level swing path to contact with extension uphill through the ball, line drive swing with some carry in the gaps and potential to add power, exit velocity was 81. At short, clean feet, rounds ball and fields with a wider base and above average hands. Quick clean exchange, works through the ball and throws from a low three-quarters arm slot, infield velocity was 82. Showed versatility taking balls in the outfield, arm played up to 87 there. Ran a 6.98 60 yard dash.

 

 

Garrett Gartrell 1B / 3B / Norfolk Christian, VA / 2020

Gartrell is 6-3 with an athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a balanced athletic stance, strides on line, smooth load back, has quiet relaxed rhythm to his swing, hips rotate completely, he maintains good balance during his swing. Short to ball, uphill path with extension through the ball and some strength at contact, showed good approach working middle of the field, exit velocity was 81. At first base, gets body behind the ball and fields with average hands, throws from a high three-quarters arm slot, position velocity was 71.

 

 

Mickey Haynes SS / OF / Brentsville District , VA / 2021

Haynes is 5-9 with a lanky frame that has a lot of projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a slightly open balanced athletic stance, big leg kick stride on line, smooth load back and down, hips rotate completely with some violence, he maintains good balance during his swing. Short to ball, level line drive swing with extension through the ball and some strength at contact, showed good approach working middle of the field, exit velocity was 76. Chance to add power as he adds strength. At short, quick feet, rounds ball and fields with a good wide base and soft hands, throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with a loose action, position velocity was 71. Ran a 7.47 60 yard dash.

 

 

Zach Mazur SS / 3B / Stone Bridge, VA / 2021

Mazur is 6-2 with a lankier athletic frame that has plenty of projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a slightly open balanced stance, strides on line, smooth load back to a wrap, hips rotate completely with some violence, he maintains good balance during his swing. Short to ball, slightly uphill line drive swing with extension through the ball and some batspeed and some strength at contact, showed good approach working middle of the field, exit velocity was 84. At short, rounds ball and fields with above average hands, works through the ball throws from a low three-quarters arm slot, position velocity was 76. Ran a 7.48 60 yard dash.

 

 

Phaly Moravek SS / 2B / Tuscarora, VA / 2020

Moravek is 5-7 with an athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He is a switch hitter, from the right side hits from a slightly open balanced athletic stance, leg kick stride on line, minimal load, hips rotate completely, he maintains good balance during his swing. Short to ball, uphill swing with extension through the ball and some batspeed and some strength at contact, showed a pull approach, exit velocity was 81. From the left side slightly open balanced stance, strides on line, smooth load back to a wrap, hips rotate completely with some violence, he maintains good balance during his swing. Short to ball, more level swing though still slightly uphill with extension through the ball and some batspeed and some strength at contact, showed good approach working middle of the field, exit velocity was 82. At short, quick clean feet, rounds ball and fields with soft hands and a good wide base, works through the ball with a clean exchange throws from a low three-quarters arm slot, position velocity was 77.

 

 

Ronaldo Pulinario 3B / 2B / Stonewall Jackson (Mannasas), VA / 2020

Pulinario is 5-10 with a lankier athletic frame that has some projection left to it. Hits from the right side from a slightly open balanced athletic stance, short stride on line, minimal load back to a wrap, hips rotate completely, he maintains some balance during his swing. Short to ball, uphill swing with some strength at contact and some batspeed, showed a pull approach, exit velocity was 84. At short, quick feet, rounds ball and fields with above average hands, works through the ball and throws from a high three-quarters arm slot, position velocity was 75. Ran a 7.18 60 yard dash.

 

 

Steven Thorne SS / 2B / Stonewall Jackson (Mannasas), VA / 2020

Thorne is 6-0 with an athletic frame that has some projection left to it. Hits from the right side from a slightly open upright stance, short leg kick stride on line, short load back to a wrap, hips rotate completely, he maintains some balance during his swing. Short to ball, slightly uphill swing path, line drive swing, showed a pull preference, exit velocity was 78. At short, clean feet, rounds ball and fields with soft hands and a good wide base, works through the ball to a quick clean exchange and throws from a low three-quarters arm slot, position velocity was 70.

 

 

 

From Maryland

CeJay Hopkins 3B / 1B / DeMatha Catholic, MD / 2020

Hopkins is 6-2 with an athletic frame that has plenty of projection left to it. Hits from the right side from a balanced athletic stance, short stride on line, short load back to a wrap, hips rotate completely with violence, he maintains some balance during his swing. Short to ball, slightly uphill swing path, has some batspeed and strength at contact, showed a pull preference, exit velocity was 82. At short, gets body behind ball and fields with avergae hands and a wider base, works through the ball and throws from a low three-quarters arm slot, position velocity was 69.

Jeremiah Jenkins LHP / 1B / St. Vincent Pallotti, MD / 2021

Jenkins is 6-3 with a strong athletic frame. He hits from the left side from a balanced athletic stance, strides on line, smooth load back, good rhythm, hips rotate completely, some balance to swing. Short to ball, slightly uphill swing path with extension through the ball, strength at contact, potential to add power, sets up to pull but did a good job of using whole field, exit velocity was 87. At first, gets body behind ball and fields with a average hands. Throws from a three-quarters arm slot, infield velocity was 72.
