We wrap up our coverage of the PBR Maryland Limited Series from last weekend at Mount St. Mary's with a look at all the notes our scouts compiled. Today's Scout Blog includes our notes on the following teams: Complete Game Academy 16U, Complete Game Academy 15U - Hinkle, Complete Game of PA, and Dig In Baseball - Ahearn.

Complete game academy 16U

Michael Kern INF/C/RHP Hershey 2023
Controlled delivery on mound gathering momentum. Changes tempo in delivery with varied leg kicks to balance. High three-quarter arm slot. Fastball showed slight run on the pitch ranging 69-70 mph. Breaking ball was 59-62 mph. Hits from a balanced, crouched, square stance at the plate. Slight toe-tap, rhythmic load with solid hand separation. Solid middle of the field approach.

Gavin Switzer RHP/OF Penn Manor 2022
Athletic frame. Shorter arm action throwing from a three-quarter slot. Pitches with light effort. Fastball ranged 67-69 mph. Breaking ball had tight 11/5 shape at 59-62 mph. Strike thrower that filled up the zone and got swings early. Balanced, slightly crouched, square stance at the plate. Rhythmic type back load with some hand separation. Lets the ball get deep and keeps hands inside, with a short, compact swing.

Connor Sheckart INF/RHP Hempfield 2022
Taller, athletic set-up at the plate with high hands. Low leg lift landing open at hitting position. Shorter path at the plate with average bat speed. Has pull tendencies in swing.

Caden Evans 2B/OF/RHP Donegal 2023
Lanky projectable frame. Hits from a balanced set up at the plate. Short, inside out path in and out of the zone. Slap style hitter who showed some feel for the barrel. Solid foundation at the plate and needs to add strength to fill out.

Chase Buch CIF/RHP Cedar Cliff 2022
Strong solid frame. Hits from slightly open set up at the plate. Shorter swing path with some extension to pull side. Showed some feel for the barrel making some loud contact in his at-bats. Showed some rhythm at the plate. On the mound has a longer sound arm action throwing from a three quarter slot. Fastball ranged 70-74 mph. Breaking ball had 11/5 shape that ranged 62-64 mph.

Jason Long INF/RHP Lampeter Strasburg 2023
Athletic frame with some projection and strength. Hits from a squatty athletic set up at the plate. Level swing path with average bat speed. Barrel gets in front of hands at times. Controlled, side step windup with a big leg kick into a high balance point. Short, kick out stride with strong leg drive. Throws from a high three-quarter slot with some arm speed. Showcased a two pitch-mix with some arm side run to the fastball at 74-77 mph. Bigger breaking ball with 11/5 shape at 66-67 mph.

Brandon Olinger OF/LHP Cedar Cliff 2022
Strong, physical frame. Hits from a balanced, slightly crouched, slightly open stance. Smooth, rhythmic type back load with a slight toe tap into a short stride. Hands are pre-set with some hand separation and quick hands through the zone. Some lower half involvement. Stays inside the ball well with a short line drive, middle of the field approach. Consistent loud contact all weekend long.

Addison Clymer RHP/MIF Central York (PA) 2022
Athletic repeatable delivery on the mound. Tall at balance, moves down the mound with shoulders and hips uphill, and lands on line. Arm is slower on the backside before building up arm speed getting through from a high three-quarter slot. The fastball had some downhill angle to it sitting 78-82 mph and topped 83 mph. The breaking ball had sharp 12/6 bite at 68-69 mph with some swing and miss potential. Changeup flashed fade at 72 mph. At the plate Clymer had a square athletic stance, small leg lift to stride, and hands make minimal load back. Level path to contact with line drive tendency to the swing.

Landon Kuntzelman RHP Trinity (PA) 2023
Long athletic frame with projection left. Controlled pace delivery, shoulders and hips uphill moving down the mound, and lands closed at foot strike. Incorporates the lower half well throughout. The arm action is long and works from a high three-quarter arm slot. Fastball played really well down in the zone, sitting 78-79 mph and touching 80 mph a few times. Breaking ball had bigger 11/5 shape at 63-64 mph.

Landis Fluck C/1B McCaskey (PA) 2022
Square slightly upright stance at the plate. Hands move back and drop slightly on load. Fluck was short to contact with a level path swing and displayed ability to pull hands in when needed and turn on the fastball. There was balance in the swing and head stayed behind contact. There is some pull-side doubles power with the possibility for more as he adds strength to the frame.

Jason Madrak RHP Cumberland Valley (PA) 2022
Madrak got the tournament started on the mound and had a very solid outing for CGA 15U-Hinkle. Repeatable delivery with a slower start and builds up pace throughout. Short deceptive arm action on the mound and works from a high three-quarter arm slot. Showed control of the fastball to both sides of the plate at 79-80 mph. Breaking ball sat 68-69 mph and showed some feel to the glove side.

Brady Walker LHP York Catholic (PA) 2023
Long levered projectable frame. Works with pace in the delivery with a down and out stride landing slightly closed at foot strike. Arm action is full and throws from an over the top slot with some whip to the arm getting through. Fastball sat 73-75 mph and flashed an up and down 12/6 breaking ball at 61-64 mph.

Tyler Swineford CIF/RHP Selingsgrove (PA) 2023
Physical frame for a 2023. Athletic movements on the mound with a short quick arm from a high three-quarter arm slot. Fastball sat 75-78 mph and touched 79 mph a few times while flashing occasional arm side run. Breaking ball was 67-68 mph and offered some late 11/5 break that had the makings of a solid secondary pitch.

Conner Adams 2B/SS Wellsboro (PA) 2023
Athletic body frame. Hits from a balanced, crouched, square stance at the plate. Hands show rhythm pre pitch with solid hand separation and a short leg kick load. Short to the ball, keeping his hands inside the ball with solid extension past contact. High contact guy with a middle of the field, line drive approach.

Carter Cowburn CIF/RHP Hughesville 2023
Controlled, side-step windup with rhythm and high leg kick to a tall, compact balance point. Gradual, smooth stride down the mound with strong lower half involvement. Quick arm speed with long, loose arm action from a high three-quarter slot. Solid three pitch mix with slight arm side run on the fastball at 80-82, topping out at 83 mph. Tight slider at 72-74 mph and a bigger curveball at 71 mph with 11/5 shape that tended to back up.

Braden Mosby C Central Dauphin (PA) 2022
One of the more consistent, and impressive, talents on the weekend Mosby had a strong showing on both sides of the ball. Behind the plate displayed hip mobility, strong blocking skills, and solid receiving skills with above average arm strength on throws. Mosby was very active defensively and handled the staff really well. At the plate he starts with a wider athletic stance, hands show rhythm, and simple stride landing on line. Path is level with feel for the barrel. Displayed doubles power working gap to gap. Really liked how hard Mosby played and how well he handled himself behind the plate.

Blaine Waltimeyer INF/OF/RHP Owen J. Roberts 2022
Athletic frame with some projection to it. Sound, clean arm action throwing from an almost over the top slot. Strong glove side in delivery. Shows some backside involvement through release. Fastball has cut action on the pitch and occasional sink to the pitch at 74-76 mph, topping out at 77. Breaking ball has 11/5 action on the pitch with gradual break 67-71 mph. Kept hitters off balance for most of his outing with the two-pitch mix. At the plate hits from the left side with a taller, slightly open set up. Short load to hitting position, hands are short to the ball and showed some freeness in them. Also showed some rhythm at the plate. Interesting with two-way potential.

Scott Renk 1B/3B/RHP Spring-Ford 2022
Big imposing frame. Hits from the right side in a square, athletic set up with hands at chest height and close to body. Has a short up and down motion to activate hands at the plate with slight rock back in lower half. Hands are short and direct to the ball with some strength to the pull side. On the mound small leg kick with exaggerated hip load working downhill. Shorter arm action throwing from a high three-quarter slot. Fastball is straight and ranged 73-77 mph. Showed two breaking balls, one with bigger 11/5 shape on the pitch and gradual break that ranged 62-64 mph. Also had a shorter action slider with similar shape but shorter break that ranged 65-67 mph.

Connor Roche LHP/1B/OF Phoenixville 2022
Solid frame. Hits from taller balanced set up from left side. Short quick load at the plate. Hands are short and quick thru the zone, can get stiff at times. Slap style hitter profile with average bat speed. On the mound had a sidestep delivery with high leg kick. Longer free arm action throwing from a high three-quarter slot. Fastball had slight sink to the pitch that ranged 70-72 mph. Breaking ball had big, 1/7 action on the pitch with gradual break that ranged 60-62 mph.

David Wagner OF/RHP Pope John Paul 2022
Compact frame with room to grow. High hands and narrow, tall set up at plate. Short leg kick load to hitting position. Quick hands at the plate with average bat speed. Showed a shorter path to the ball and some looseness in hands. On the mound, has deliberate, build up style delivery with average leg kick. Longer, free arm action throwing from a high three-quarter slot. Fastball has slight run to the pitch that ranged 71-73 mph. Breaking ball had gradual break with 11/5 shape to the pitch that ranged 62-66 mph.

Cam Marcum RHP/C Malvern Prep 2022
Athletic, projectable frame with room to add too. Hits from tall set up at the plate with high hands. Bigger leg kick load as weight shifts back. Hands are direct to the ball with some pull tendencies in swing. Leg kick gets him in trouble at times as he can get out of balance at times with the load. Long, loose arm action from the bump. Short side step windup and gets over his front side well. High leg kick to a tall balance point. Solid three pitch-mix with fastball at 74-75 mph. Big curveball that tends to back up with 12/6 shape at 61-63 mph. Changeup had occasional dive action at 68-70 mph. Compact, build up delivery throwing from an almost over the top slot. Showed feel for three pitches and attacked the zone.

Michael Greco MIF/OF Pope John Paul 2022
Hits from a taller, slightly open set up. Short path at the plate wanting to drive ball with uphill path. Shows some bat speed and strength to the pull side, got nice two RBI single to right in game 2, able to pull hands in on a high fastball in on the body.

Adam Yarrison INF/OF/RHP Pope John Paul 2022
Lanky projectable frame, Has plenty of growing left to do. Shorter arm action throwing from a three quarter slot. Fastball had slight run to the pitch that topped out at 75 mph. and ranged 72-75 mph. Mixed speed well with confidence in his arsenal. Mix of changeup at 63-66 mph and 12/6 big breaking ball with gradual shape at 60-63 mph kept hitters off balance throughout. At the plate showed a level path with some extension and freeness in hands at the plate. Gap to gap ability. Solid foundation who should continue to improve as he gets stronger.

Connor Nafus C Spring-Ford 2022
Solid frame. Squatty set up at the plate from the left side that hovers over inner half. Short quick load to hitting position. Short swing path to the baseball Inside out path. Shows some pull tendencies in swing. Showed sound actions in the field with decent footwork.

Jarred Berish RHP/MIF/OF Owen J. Roberts 2022
Up to 80 mph, fastball ranged 77-80 mph. Higher leg kick with clean arm action throwing from high three quarter slot. Average lower half usage. Fastball has some sinking action to the pitch. Breaking ball was 65-66 mph and change-up was 73-74 mph.

Ryan Burke RHP Spring-Ford 2022
Lanky projectable frame. Stretch only. Higher leg kick with down to out lower half. Slight cross body action in delivery. Shorter arm action that hides the ball well. Throws from a side arm slot with some arm speed. Fastball has slight run and sink to the pitch, ranging 75-77 mph.

Jack Colyer INF/RHP/OF Perk Valley 2022
Long lanky projectable frame. Stretch only. High leg kick working down to out while getting into his lower half. Average backside involvement through release. Whippy arm with more in the tank. Interesting talent. Fastball showed some later life on the pitch that ranged from 79-81 mph. Breaking ball had shape with average movement on the pitch at 65-67 mph. Nice feel for his changeup that ranged from 73-76 mph. Hits from a square set up with high hands from the left side. Shows some rhythm at the plate. Short leg kick load at the plate. Showed nice balance.

Dylan Kay SS/2B Downington East 2022
Athletic body frame. Hits from a balanced, upright, square stance at the plate. Rhythmic type back load with some hand separation. Quick hands through the zone with some lower half involvement. Keeps hands inside the ball well with some extension past contact. Uses the whole field effectively with some feel for barrel.

DIg In Baseball - Ahearn

Cade Ahearn RHP/1B/OF Centennial 2024
Strong, projectable frame. Pitches from the stretch with a controlled leg kick to a tall balance position. Clean hand separation and smooth kick-out stride down the mound. Lands in-line with the plate and gets over front side hard with an athletic finish falling just slightly to the first base side. Throws with shorter arm action from a three-quarter slot with extension. Worked down and pounded the zone. Fastball was 79-82 mph with some arm side run. Breaking ball was 70-72 mph with sharp 10/4 shape and change-up sat 74 mph. Really nice arm to follow moving forward in the 2024 class.

Qwynn Ahearn C/CIF Centennial 2023
Strong, solid frame with projection. Did a nice job defensively behind the dish. Showed confidence controlling the pitching staff, quiet receiver with the ability to move laterally and block. Hits from a balanced, square stance with a leg kick load. Creates some hand separation and stays behind the ball well with extension through contact. Showed quick hands and the ability to adjust to pitches in. Quick bat speed and pop present with more projected as he continues to develop.

Ryan Bouma 3B/OF/C Sherwood 2023
Bouma had a huge weekend at the plate that included several extra base hits, multiple RBI’s and a home-run. Even more impressive was his ability to use the whole field, get into good hitting counts, and be confident and aggressive when he got his pitch. Bouma has present strength in the swing and power to all fields. He showed a great feel for the barrel and rarely ever missed his pitch. Hits from a balanced, square stance at the plate with a quiet front leg kick load. Head remains still throughout the swing and stays balanced. Showed extension and strong lower half involvement. Short to the ball with quick hands and fast bat speed through the zone. Easy uphill swing path.

Tanner Sanderoff LHP/OF Blake 2023
Athletic, lean frame with room to fill out. Pitches from the stretch with a controlled high leg kick to a tall.compact balance point with hands set at waist height. Drop and drive style delivery landing slightly closed to the plate. Quick lower half and upright finish falling towards the third base side. Creates quick arm speed throwing with short arm action from a high three-quarter slot. Fastball sat 79-81 mph and touched 82 mph. Breaking ball was 66-68 mph with sharp 12/6 shape and change-up sat 75 mph.

Ryan Edmonds RHP/3B/SS Archbishop Curley 2022
Strong, solid body type. Was absolutely dominant in his outing on the mound. Struck out 11 of the 19 batters faced. Worked ahead, pounded the zone and just challenged hitters left and right. Side-step wind-up and high leg kick to a tall, compact balance position. Mixed up deliveries to the plate with some pauses and hesitations. Smooth stride down the mound with strong lower half drive. Works quick and gets over the front side with extension. Lands in line with the plate with an athletic finish. Throws with a full arm circle from a high three-quarter slot with easy effort. Fastball sat 82-85 mph and breaking ball was 70-73 mph with tight 10/4 shape. Also hit in the three-hole from a balanced, square stance at the plate with an easy back load and high leg kick. Creates some hand separation. Showed a quick, more level swing path with quick bat speed also through the zone. Has a tendency to get out on the front side. Strength present in the swing and pop evident with a couple squared up balls on the weekend.

Eje Okojie RHP/INF/OF River Hill 2023
Strong, athletic frame. Hits from a balanced stance at the plate with a short stride. Hands are direct to the ball and swing path is level. Fast hands and whippy bat speed. Gap-to-gap line drive type hitter with some raw power to the alleys. Gets out of the box quick, long strides, and speed present. Slightly up-tempo side-step wind-up and leg kick to a compact balance position. Strong push off the rubber jumping down the mound hard. Lands closed the plate with a slightly upright finish. Quick arm speed with extension through release. Long, loose arm action throwing from a high three-quarter slot with easy effort. Fastball ranged 80-82 mph and touched 83 mph. Feel for the breaking ball that sat 71-72 mph with 11/5 shape.

Scotty Vaszil RHP/2B/OF Atholton 2023
Strong, athletic frame. Showed a really nice feel for the barrel all weekend squaring up several balls. Gap-to-gap line drive approach. Hits from a tall, relaxed, open stance at the plate. Small leg lift load with hand separation. Level swing path with extension through contact and gets lower half involved some in the swing. Hard-nosed, gritty ball player that grinds out at bats and makes things happen.

Demetre Koutras RHP/OF/INF River Hill 2023
Long, projectable frame with strength. Hits from a balanced, square stance with rhythm. Knee to knee load with hands pre-set in a solid hitting position. Stays short to the ball with a slightly uphill swing path. Showed nice extension through contact and power to the alleys. Stays behind the ball well with some lower half involvement and showed a quick, whippy barrel. Gets upright through finish. Showed some speed around the bases. Interesting follow.

Alfonse Dello Russo RHP/OF/3B Glenelg 2023
Tall, lanky, projectable frame. Hit in the leadoff spot this weekend. Quiet in the box hitting from a balanced, open stance. Short, direct, slightly uphill swing path. Showed quick hands and the ability to turn on the inside pitch. Squared a few balls up this weekend with some pop to the pull-side. Gets out of the box quick and showed speed on the bases.
