Pitchers

Matthew Harsh was a key component to Williamsport during their season that ended with a trip to the state championship. Expect another big year for the lefty...Grant Burleson has some of the most talent of any player in the state. If this lefty from Parkside gets in a groove early and stays there through the season, he could even be a pitcher of the year type arm...Zack Radcliffe was one of the top arms for Bel Air and rode that to the state championship of 4A. With Radcliff and Michael Yetter, Bel Air could see themselves back in the title game...JMU commit Tyler Greene could quickly establish himself as one of the top arms in the tough Anne Arundel conference after moving to Northeast HS...RHP Colin Taeschner has made a big rise in the past six months, showing off nice pitch ability to go with a fastball up to 88 mph. Now at St. Mary's, Taeschner makes give the Saints another formidable 1-2 punch with RHP Stephen Pelli...If Good Counsel plans to challenge for the WCAC title, Ronnie Orie will play a big part in that on the mound.

Catchers

Senior Drew Erlich will have an important role with the Greyhounds if Gilman plans on playing again for the MIAA title. Look for Erlich to have a big season as he will help pace the offense and shut down opposing runners with his arm strength...Fellow MIAA backstop Hunter Spalt is part of a talented catching corps at Loyola between him and Jack Glock. Spalt has developed himself into a talented prospect and will be a dangerous stick in the middle of Loyola's lineup and has the ability to shut down the running game which is very important in the MIAA.

Infielders

Senior Jared Carr is going to hit, hit, and hit some more for Saint James this season. Expect another big season for the underrated Shepherd commit...Gilman 3B Maxwell Costes established himself as a top hitter in the state in 2016 and the junior Maryland commit will do it again as a staple in the middle of the order for the Greyhounds...Eric Lansinger has been a major contributor for Damascus since his freshmen year and that young team is now an early favorite to make a run in the 3A tournament...Jose Rivera has only been at Riverdale Baptist for one season, but the talented infielder has quickly made an impression. Keep an eye on this talented junior.

Outfield

JP Murphy was an everyday bat for Calvert Hall his sophomore year and proved why with a strong season for the Cardinals. Now a year under his belt, Murphy looks to improve in his junior season...Brooks Bengtson another sophomore to have a a successful sophomore season, his was at Georgetown Prep. Bengtson had an impressive summer this past year and looks to build off of that for an intriguing Little Hoyas squad that will compete for an IAC championship...Jacob Wetzel might be the best player not enough people have heard of unless your in Frederick county. Wetzel had a big year for Walkersville HS leading them to a highly successful season in which they were right around the Maryland Power 25 rankings for the most of the end of last season. Wetzel carried that momentum into the summer and made his pledge to Old Dominion. Has an excellent combination of size, speed, strength, and power and will be one to see this spring.

Two-Way

We thought after an undefeated regular season in 2015 and making it all the way to the state championship it would be hard to repeat that again in 2016, but Colonel Richardson had another highly successful campaign and a lot of that success was attributed to the season had by one Jacob Zebron. The talented outfielder / pitcher had a big season and we see that as no different heading into 2017. Zebron is one of the top uncommitted players available in our PBR Maryland 2018 rankings...Sherwood HS had a very successful 2016 season only to see it cut short during the playoffs. With the majority of the team back, they are early favorites to make it to the 4A championship this season. Leading the pack will be two way talent Josh Seils who should man the shortstop position and have an active role somewhere in the pitching staff, whether as a starter or a shutdown arm...Jake Hanks of defending 2A champs La Plata looks to have another big role for the Warriors after the graduation of Scott Logue and Tyler Stockwell. Look for Hanks to have a solid senior campaign both on the mound and at the plate.
