The Preseason All State Showcase was held on Sunday, February 12 at Diamond Pros Baseball in Glen Arm, MD. The event featured some of the top players from across the state. We began the evaluation process with our Stats Story and Early Thoughts earlier. Now we move on to the player evaluation process. A highly talented group across the board was on hand.

We continue our analysis today with the outfielders from the event. Today we have added a couple "Future Watch" candidates, which are 2019 and younger who are ones to keep an eye on.

Top Performer

Scott Prutting 3B Landon 2017
Prutting has a projectable 6-foot-1, 185-pound frame. He runs a 7.21 60-yard dash. He hits from an open setup. Quiet load with an athletic, compact swing that shows bat speed. Gets extension through contact with a high finish and shows some potential pull side power. His exit velocity is 89. Clean hands and approach with a quick arm that was 87 from the outfield and 85 from the infield. Athletic and sound actions from both positions and shows he could play either at next level. A hidden gem still uncommitted and could help at any corner spot.

Alex Rozner 3B Severn School 2018
Athletic projectable frame at 6-foot-1, 172-pounds. Ran a 7.24 60-yard dash. Hits from a tall, balanced, square set up. Hands rock back in load with slight body rock back with short step into hitting position. Generates quick bat speed with a level path through the zone and some extension thorugh contact. Got a bit pull happy during the round, when the hands free up, got some loud contact. Nice balance throughout and smooth rhythm. Exit Velocity of 83 mph. Fluid actions from the corner. Soft hands sound exchange, shorter arm action with an infield velo of 80 mph.

Future Watch

Noah Cerrud-Osmer 1B Walter Johnson 2019
Cerrud has a well built, 6-foot-1, 200-pound frame. He runs a 7.3 60-yard dash. At the plate he shows raw, pull-side power with an exit velocity of 94 mph. He hits from an upright stance with a short, level swing path. Would like to see a little bit more rhythm throughout his swing that could add even more power. At first base he shows sound footwork with soft hands. Clean actions around the bag and was 77mph across the infield from a low ¾ slot.

Benjamin Nardi 1B/OF Winston Churchill 2019
Nardi has a projectable 6-foot, 180-pound frame. He runs a 7.18 60-yard dash. He hits from an open stance with a high knee lift. Quick hands with some bat speed and pop to pull side with more power potential. His exit velocity is 89. Around the bag he shows athleticism and good hands. He is 72 across the infield. A very interesting 2019 prospect at the plate and should increase that as he continues to develop. As he continues to improve his arm strength looks like would be a nice outfield/first base combo.

Best of the Rest
In Alphabetical order

Stephen Bontempo 1B Stephen Decatur 2018
Bontempo has a Projectable 6-foot-1, 190-pound frame. He has a smooth, quiet load with slight knee turn in. He has a short, repeatable swing. Looks comfortable and confident around the bag at 1st base. Bontempo has solid footwork, a clean exchange, good glove tap, shorter arm action with throws across the diamond at 74 mph.

Patrick Freeman 1B Queene Anne's 2017
Freeman has a lanky 6-foot-2, 185-pound frame. He runs a 7.85 60-yard dash. Freeman has a square stance at the plate with a leg lift load. Bat path has a tendency to work uphill wanting to lift the baseball with above average bat speed and shows some pull side pop. His exit velocity is up to 86. Has a strong athletic base and strong body, leg kick got him in trouble at times with timing. As his rhythm got better, ball jumped off bat better. He has sound actions around the bag with average hands. He has a low ¾ release with positional velocity at 72.

John Jenkins 3B Broadneck 2017
Jenkins has a 6-foot, 195-pound projectable frame. Ran a 7.8 60-yard dash and hits from a slightly open stance with a smooth load. Hands were free with some bat speed.
