The Preseason All-State was held on Sunday February 18th at Diamond Pros baseball in Glen Arm Maryland. Over 100 players performed in front of the PBR scouting staff and showcased their ability prior to the upcoming high school season. We are going to take this week and take a deeper look into the event highlighting some of the top performances. Today we go to the mound to look at some of the arms.

 

Jeffrey Calderon RHP / Archbishop Curley, MD / 2018 One of the top uncommitted 2018 arms remaining has made a nice jump over the winter since the last time we saw him, already hitting 88 mph at this point in the year. The fastball showed some later two plane action on the pitch at times. The slider ranged from 72-78and showed late action on the pitch at times. He did show a bigger breaking ball at 67 mph, but slider looked better of the two breaking balls. Very interesting still available arm out there.

 

 

Brendan Foster RHP / OF / Howard, MD / 2019 This Howard HS product was a very intriguing arm on the day, showing a fastball up to 87 mph while pitching with regular effort. Foster showed a short and quick arm action throwing from a high three quarter slot. There was slight drop-n-drive to his back side as he does get lower half involvement. Created quick arm speed through release with a quiet finish.

 

 

Evan Lewis RHP / 1B / Severna Park, MD / 2020 Lewis has a sound arm action throwing from a lower three quarter slot. There is a bit of slinger in the arm but he creates good arm speed from that lower spot and will not be surprised to see him throwing harder down the road. He was able to get nice later action on his fastball that got up to 85 mph with with light effort. Had a high waist and projectable frame that looks to not be done growing and has room to fill out.

 

 

John Torroella RHP / 3B / Mount Saint Joseph, MD / 2019 Torroella continues to show nice progression, again making a jump after the winter and he looks poised for a potential breakout season this year at Mount St. Joseph. Torroella topped out at 85 mph on the day and his breaking ball continues to get better showing sharp action on the pitch at 68 mph right now and that pitch looks like he will still be able to throw it harder as he continues to develop. His long frame looks to be starting to fill out some and would not be surprised to see him continue to make gains through the spring.

 

 

Marty Sawyers RHP / 3B / Southern , MD / 2019 Sawyers has shown some nice progression in the year since the last time we saw him. It was a pretty easy 85 mph on the mound where as he used to have more effort in the delivery. He still has projection in the 6-ffot-2 frame that he can add to go along with his quicker arm action. Another 2019 to keep an eye on this spring

 

 

Colton Knoble RHP / 1B / Archbishop Curley, MD / 2019 Knoble has continued to show his progression on the mound with his durable frame and getting up to 87 mph on the day. Knoble has a sound arm action while pitching with regular effort. He looked to have made some adjustments to his lower half and his breaking ball has gotten harder, getting up to 72 mph on the day.

 

 

Travis Garnett LHP / 1B / Indian Creek, MD / 2021 Keep an eye out for this interesting 2021 talent a projectable frame with length, Garnett has some deception to the delivery with a loose arm action throwing from a low slot and slight cross body action. The arm worked well and he should make some nice gains through the year as he adds to his frame. It's a controlled finish with good posture and some lower half involvement. Garnett was able to get later action on the fastball. A freshman to follow this spring.
