The Preseason All-State was held on Sunday February 18th at Diamond Pros baseball in Glen Arm Maryland. Over 100 players performed in front of the PBR scouting staff and showcased their ability prior to the upcoming high school season. We are going to take this week and take a deeper look into the event highlighting some of the top performances.

Early Thoughts: Pitching
Early Thoughts: Position Pt. 1

Early Thoughts: Position Pt. 2

Nick Burch OF / 2B / Leonardtown, MD / 2019

Always have been a fan of Burch and today's workout was no different. Solid across the board, Burch ran a 6.99 60-yard dash, was 84 from the outfield and had an exit velocity of 85. Quick hands at the plate and had strong rounds of BP. he shows athleticms to cover any of the outfiled positions, and should hit for average. Has cut down his 60-time to go with his already first step quickness.

Johnny Kampes C / OF / Rising Sun, MD / 2018

Kampes continues to be one of the fastest catch and release guys in the state and that was again evident with consistent pop times in the 1.8 range. the ability to generate 75 mph velocity with the quickness he gets rid of the ball is quite impressive. He continues to show strength and development at the plate, getting one of the top exit velocities on the day at 96 mph. He has a level path and quick hands offensively.

Justin Looney C / RHP / Mount St. Joseph, MD / 2019

The Longwood commit is a physical presence at the plate with a level path and made loud contact throughout his rounds of BP. Strength was present in his 98 mph exit velocity and already shows pull side pop that should develop to all fields. Quick to the ball and long through contact with the ability to lift the baseball. Behind the plate it's a quick catch and release with a strong arm. Pop was as low as 1.91 with a velo up to 79 mph. Ran 7.15 60-yard dash.

Joshua Moylan 1B / 3B / Archbishop Spalding, MD / 2020

Another strong performance from Moylan, improving his exit velocity and improving his strength at the plate with a 95 mph exit velocity. The left-handed hitter showed nice extension through contact and looks to be a potential power threat to all fields down the road with his current pull side pop. Shows ability to hit for average as well.

Stevie Orsini OF / LHP / Poolesville, MD / 2021

Keep an eye out for this 2021 out of Poolesville HS. Orsini has a sneaky top workout of the event quietly going through the entire day and putting up some of the top numbers of the event. He ran a 7.05 60-yard dash, was 78 from the outfield, and had a 90 mph exit velocity. He shows potential pop at the plate from the left side with quick hands and should continue to develop his already solid foundation. Orsini then took to the mound and was up to 77 mph and has potential there as well.

Nate Vermillion RHP / 3B / Archbishop Spalding, MD / 2020

The younger brother of former Spalding star Nick Vermillion, Nate looks to pick up where his brother left off, showing two -way capability and power potential at the plate. His hands are quick on the offensive end with extension through contact. The 2020 still has room for growth and should only get better with more repetitions down the road. On the mound, Vermillion was up to 83 mph with a sound arm action and regular effort.

Ethan McCormick SS / RHP / Archbishop Spalding , MD / 2020

Another interesting Spalding 2020, McCormick is a toolsy middle infield prospect who can also more than hold his own on the mound. He has room to add to his lanky 6-foot, 155-pound frame. Ran a 7.17 60-yard dash and shows nice lateral quickness and clean actions in the field. Has a shorter arm action and was 78 across the diamond. At the plate he has a simple set up with a short path at the plate and bat speed. Like his ceiling as a position player and one to keep an eye on who should continue to improve.

Corey Walters 1B / 3B / Williamsport, MD / 2019

Williamsport had a talented group of young men in attendance, but Walters might have been the most impressive. A 2019 infield prospect, Walters has some length and projection to his 6-foot-1 175-pound frame. Hitting from the left side. Walters showed a fast bat with some pull side pop and potential for more down the road as he adds strength. His primary position was first base and he had clean actions around the bag with a short arm action and his throws were 78 across the diamond. Athletic enough would like to see more reps at 3B to make more complete corner infield prospect.
