St. Mary’s 2016 C Brady O’Neil is currently in the process of deciding where to continue his baseball career.  The athletic catcher has been receiving interest from multiple Division I programs and also is attending the Maryland Preseason ID coming up this weekend.  O’Neil took time with PBR Maryland to talk about the process.

Brady O'NeilWhat has the recruiting process been like for you?

--It all started suddenly, I didn't expect four schools to call me within three days. It was above my expectations.

What are key factors you are looking for in a school?

--I always look first if they need a Catcher. Then location, and if the school is big or small. I'm looking for a medium size school. Plus, I hope to attend school down south.

When did things start to heat up in your recruitment?

--For me around Mid-October because I started to email coaches, and really put in time reaching out to them.

When did you realize that you were a college caliber baseball player?

--From an early age I knew I wanted to play baseball for a living, and over time I've had to push myself. Playing in college is the next step to achieving that goal.

What schools have been in contact with you?

--UMBC, VCU, Catholic, Siena, USC Upstate, Winthrop

Have you been on any visits?

--UMBC

What has been the biggest moment in your baseball career?

--The biggest moment in my career is without a doubt winning the championship with my high school (St. Mary’s) team last year.

Who do you play for over the summer? Why did you decide to play for them?

--I play for the Rawlings A's in the summer because the coaching staff really helps you develop as a player, plus the friends I've made on the team are great. We all have that ball player mindset.
