Gaithersburg senior Trey Martinez committed to Towson in 2014. The hard hitting catcher took some time out with PBR Maryland to talk about his decision.

Why did you choose Towson?

-- I loved the school when I visited it and it is close to my family so they will be able to watch me play.

What other schools were you considering?

-- Mount St. Mary???s, California University of PA, Wingate, Albany, and Millersville.

Now that your commitment is over, what are your goals for your senior year?

-- My goal for senior year is not only to have to best season of my life so far but to bring my school back a state title.

What would you like to get accomplished before you step on campus at Towson?

-- I want to be in great shape for my freshmen year in college.

What are you looking forward to the most about Towson?

-- I???m looking forward to meeting new people and starting life on my own.

Who did you play for over the summer and what was your most memorable experience?

-- I played for Elite baseball over the summer. My most memorable experience was in my last game in the fall with my showcase team I had just got back from surgery and wasn't having the best fall because I was still recovering. It was the last inning and we were tied and I hit a double off the fence to win the game for my team. It was a great way to go out.

Who has been the most influential person over your baseball career and why?

-- My dad has been my most influential person because he always believes in me no matter what and is always the one pushing me to work harder and be better than everyone else.

Who is your favorite MLB player and why?

-- My favorite MLB player is Yadier Molina. He is my favorite because he is always playing the game as hard as possible and is always making changes to make him a better player.

What are you going to bring to Towson as a freshman?

-- I am going to bring a hard worker mentality and future leadership to the baseball program there. I hope to make a difference in the program for the best.

What is your goal by the end of your freshman year?  By the end of your college career?

-- My goal is to make people notice that Towson can hang with the big boys. I want to help the program be a consistent CAA championship contender and gain national attention. By the end of college I hope to get drafted and someday have the chance to play in the MLB. I would love to get my major in either computer science or sports management and have the most fun I can with school and playing ball.

Random question:  What is your favorite movie and favorite follow on twitter?

-- Favorite movie is Pitch Perfect and my favorite twitter to follow is @PBRMaryland.
