Over 60 players took part in this year's Scout Day with Rawlings A's Prospects MD. Players in attendance represented multiple teams within the organization spanning the 2021-2024 graduating classes. Players were put through a pro-style workout that included BP and bullpens for pitchers. Below are scout notes on 11 top performers from the pitching portion of the workout with short video clips from the bullpen included on each player.

Top Performances from the Bullpen Portion

Aiden Cassilly 3B / RHP / South River, MD / 2022

Strong, athletic frame with projection at 5'10'', 175 pounds. Side-step wind-up and high leg kick to a tall balance point. Controlled kick-out stride down the mound finishing in a more upright position. Long arm take-away that gets short through release. Throws from a high three-quarter slot with easy effort. Pounded the zone constantly with a 77-80 mph fastball and showed nice feel for a 64-65 mph breaking ball with big 11/5 shape and swing-and-miss potential.

Demetre Georgopoulos 3B / RHP / Good Counsel, MD / 2023

Projectable, athletic 5'11'', 180 pound frame. Controlled side-step wind-up and smooth delivery. Throws with short arm action from a mid three-quarter slot with regular effort. Fastball sat 74-76 mph and showed some feel for the off-speed. Curveball showed more 11/5 shape at 62-65 mph, slider was 70-72 mph, and change-up sat 70-71 mph.

Cael Huyer LHP / OF / South River, MD / 2021

Got another look at Huyer in a controlled bullpen setting. Struggled some at the Maryland Fall Championships but the arm works, the stuff plays and really like the projection. Athletic, lean 6'1'', 165 pound frame with plenty of room still to fill out. Controlled to balance with a repeatable drop and drive style delivery to the plate. Arm is loose, whippy, and quick through release. Throws from a three-quarter arm slot with regular effort. Three pitch mix with feel for the zone. Fastball sat 81-83 mph, breaking ball say 68-70 mph with tight 1/7 shape, and change-up flashed late sinking action at 73-76 mph. Really nice uncommitted left-handed arm with upside and two-way potential as highlighted in our previous scout blog.

Garrett Kuhn RHP / OF / Arundel, MD / 2022

Athletic, lean frame at 6'0'', 160 pounds. Potential to fill out the frame is present. Uses a high leg kick to get into a compact, slightly crouched position at balance. Arm is long and free and whips it through release. Gets down hard over front side with effort. Really like the potential wipeout breaking ball he showed. 67-70 mph with sharp 11/5 shape. Once polished could be devastating to try to hit. Compliments the off-speed breaker with a an 80-81 mph fastball that had some arm-side run. Interested to follow the Arundel product next Spring to see if any jumps are made.

Tyson Nercessian SS / RHP / DeMatha , MD / 2022

Athletic 5'10'', 160 pound frame. Sound mechanically on the bump pitching with tempo. High leg kick to a tall, compact balance position and quarter turn. Full arm-circle and high three-quarter slot near over the top. Creates quick arm speed and gets down over the front side. Fastball sat 77-78 and topped out at 79 mph. Showed feel for the breaker at 66-67 mph with tight 11/5 shape. Change-up ranged 70-72 mph. Two-way ability present. Middle of the field line drive approach with a short, compact swing and stays balanced throughout. Interesting follow with some big game high school experience already under his belt. Figures to be a key piece of the staff at DeMatha this spring.

Armand Ortiz RHP / OF / Key, MD / 2023

Ortiz has been one of our favorite arms to follow this Summer after jumping onto the scene and making a name for himself at the Maryland Summer Trials. Strong, athletic frame at 5'9'', 165 pounds. Sat 80-81 mph at the Scout Day to cap off a stellar summer/fall campaign which saw him throw a no-hitter at the Maryland Fall Championships in the Semi-final game where he also was up to 83 mph. Throws a plethora of off-speed offerings including a curveball, slider, change-up, and knuckleball. Love the demeanor on the mound and competitive mentality. Everything is controlled in the wind-up to balance before exploding hard down off the mound attacking the plate with conviction. Fills it up and throws off-speed for strikes as well. Very excited to follow his development moving forward.

Jordan Peguese 3B / RHP / Marriotts Ridge, MD / 2022

As if his ability to play multiple positions defensively and swing it during the position player part of the workout wasn't enough, Peguese was easily also one of the more intriguing arms at the Scout Day. The uncommitted 2022 jumped on the bump showing off his loose, athletic arm and sat 81-84, ultimately topping out at 85 mph. Mechanically sound to balance and generates quick arm speed through release. Throws with shorter arm action creating some deception to the hitter. Pounded the zone with a three pitch mix including a 70-73 mph breaking ball with short 12/6 shape and change-up at 73-74 mph. Really interested to follow his development as a potential two-way prospect down the road.

Noah Reeder OF / RHP / South River , MD / 2021

Nice arm with feel for the zone. Athletic 5'11'', 165 pound frame with room to fill out. Relaxed presence on the mound with a controlled, repeatable delivery. Throws with long arm action from a high three-quarter slot with easy effort and creates quick arm speed through release. With added strength to the body, could easily see a jump in velo heading into his senior season. Fastball ranged 76-80 mph and worked both sides of the plate. Breaking ball was 70-72 mph and change-up showed the ability to be a very quality out pitch at 73-74 mph with late sink.

Brandon Stewart 2B / RHP / South River , MD / 2022

Athletic 5'10'', 140 pound frame with room to fill out. Controlled side-step wind-up with a high leg kick into a tall balance position with hands set high. Clean hand separation and smooth stride down the mound. Creates some arm speed through release throwing with long arm action from a high three-quarter slot with easy effort. Threw three pitches for strikes int he bullpen living low in the zone with the fastball and changeup. Fastball sat 74-76 and touched 77 mph. Breaking ball was 61-63 mph with big gradual 11/5 shape and change-up showed some fade at 69-70 mph.

Tyler Titus 1B / RHP / Queen Anne's County High School, MD / 2022

Physical 6'5'', 225 pound frame used as leverage to get down hard off the mound. Controlled side-step wind-up and high leg kick to a tall, compact balance point with a quarter body turn. Arm works long and loose back getting shorter at release throwing from a high three-quarter slot. Showed feel for three pitches in the zone. Fastball sat 79-81 and touched 82 mph. Breaking ball was 69-71 mph with short 11/5 shape and change-up was 72-73 mph with occasional sinking action. Solid day all-around on the mound and as a position player with potential.

Sean Williams RHP / 3B / Severna Park , MD / 2024

Williams showed well on the mound heading into what could be a really big off-season of training for him. Solid 6'0'', 180 pound frame with plenty of room to add strength. Easily could project to see an increase in velo from what is already solid for a 2024. Uses a controlled side-step wind-up to get to a tall balance position. Clean hand separation and throws with long, loose arm action from a high three-quarter slot. Works down the mound with a drop-and drive type delivery. Fastball sat 80-81 and touched 82 mph working both sides of the plate during the pen. Also featured a 67-69 mph BB with 11/5 shape and 70-71 mph change-up with some late sink down in the zone. Exciting times ahead for the Severna Park product.
