We continue our analysis breakdown of the Rawlings A's Prospects fall scout day. Below you will find our analysis on each player. This is the final installment from the Rawlings A's Prospects to see our previous entries, scroll down to the bottom of this page.

Trent Rathell SS Northeast 2020
Rathell is 5-11 and has a lanky frame. He hits from the right side with a balanced, athletic stance, smooth load back with a short leg kick stride. Explosive hips and very good balance throughout his swing. Longer swing path with a quick bat and extension through the baseball. Good rhythm and approach, working the middle of the field with a line drive swing, exit velocity of 77. At shortstop, clean footwork and soft hands. Clean exchange, working through the ball well. Throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with a short arm action, position velocity of 75. On the mound, throws with as smooth drop and drive delivery. Arm action is long and loose, throwing from a three-quarters arm slot with normal effort. Shoulders are uphill and online as he strides to a square landing with an athletic finish. Fastball was 69-72. Change-up was 61-64 with decent arm action and sink. Curveball had 12/6 break, running 55-57.

Marty Sawyers RHP/3B Southern 2019
Sawyers is 6-2 and has a lankier athletic frame, he ran a 7.41 60 yard dash. Hits from an open, athletic stance with a smooth load back and a leg kick stride. Good rhythm to his swing with explosive hips and good balance throughout his swing. Short path to the ball, working uphill with extension through it, exit velocity of 79 off of the tee. At third base, decent feet, a wide base, and soft hands. Clean exchange, working through the ball well. Throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with a short action and a loose arm action, position velocity of 75. On the mound, has a smooth drop and drive delivery with a short, loose, three-quarters arm action and normal effort. Shoulders uphill and slightly closed as he strides to a square landing with a slight fall off finish. Fastball was 78-82 with some late boring action to it. Curveball has late 12/6 break and good armspeed, running 68-69. Change-up had good armspeed and fading action, running 72-74. Decent feel for all three pitches.

Nate Selby 3B/RHP St. Mary’s 2020
Selby is 5-10 with a lanky frame, hits from the right side from an upright athletic stance, 60 time was a 7.44. Short stride forward, drops hands a bit as he loads, good rhythm to swing. Decent lower half and good balance throughout swing. Short swing with a level path and a pull approach, exit velocity was 70. At third base, average footwork and average hands, quick exchange and release. Short arm action, throwing from a low three-quarters arm slot, infield velocity of 71. On the mound, throws from a tall and fall delivery with a short, loose arm action from a three-quarters arm slot. Shoulders are uphill and online as he strides to a square landing with an athletic finish. Fastball was 70-72 with some late run. Curveball had 11/5 break, running 56. Change-up was 61-63 with decent arm action and sink to it. 

Will Shenton SS/C Southern 2020
Shenton is 5-5 with an athletic frame, hits from the right side with an open, athletic stance. Loads smoothly back and down with a short stride and good rhythm. Explosive hips and decent balance throughout his swing. Short to the ball with a level swing, exit velocity of 62. In the infield, decent feet and average hands. Works through the ball well and throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with short arm action, infield velocity was 66. Behind the plate, gains ground during exchange, throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with a short arm action and a position velocity of 60, pop times ran 2.38-2.60. On the mound, has a drop and drive delivery and throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a short arm action. Shoulders are uphill and on line and he strides to a square landing with an athletic finish and recoil. Fastball was 63-65 with sink. Curveball had 12/6 action with decent armspeed, running 57-59.

Carson Simmons C Southern 2020
Simmons is 5-8 and has a lanky frame. He hits from the right side from an athletic stance with a slight load back and a short on line stride. Decent lower half and above average balance throughout his swing. Short, uphill swing path with extension through the ball. Pull approach with an exit velocity of 64. In the infield, good footwork and a wide base with soft hands. Clean exchange and release, throwing from a three-quarters arm slot with a short arm action, infield velocity of 66. Behind the plate, throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a position velocity of 62, pop times of 2.60-2.65. 

Ethan Soto SS St. Mary’s 2020
Soto is 5-6 and has a lanky frame, hitting from the right side. Balanced, open athletic stance with good rhythm. Short stride on line, smooth load back into a wrap. Explosive hips and good balance throughout swing. Longer, level path with decent balance throughout his swing. Line drive hitter with an exit velocity of 73. In the infield, good athletic footwork, fielding with a wide base and soft hands. Smooth fielder with good rhythm, clean exchange and release, gaining ground as he works through the ball well. Throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with a short, smooth arm action, position velocity of 70.

Brady Stanforth 2B Old Mill 2019
Stanforth is 5-10 and has a lankier athletic frame. He hits from the right side from an open, athletic stance with good rhythm. Short leg kick stride and a smooth load back into a slight wrap. Good lower half and decent balance throughout his swing. Longer swing, quick hands, working uphill, exit velocity of 68. In the infield, average footwork and hands. Works through the ball with a decent exchange, throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with a long arm action, position velocity was 66.

Colin Taeschner RHP St. Mary’s 2018
Taeschner is 6-3 and has an athletic frame, ran a 7.21 60 yard dash. He hits from the left side with a balanced stance. Leg kick stride with a smooth load back, good rhythm to his swing. Explosive hips and good balance to his swing. Fast bat with a short path and good extension through the ball. Pull approach with power, exit velocity of 94. At first base, footwork is fine with average hands. Plays through the ball, throwing from a three-quarters arm slot with a short arm action and a position velocity of 76. 

Brody Taylor C St. Mary’s 2018
Taylor is 5-4 and has an athletic frame, running a 7.36 60 yard dash. He hits from the right side from an open, athletic stance. Minimal load and a short leg kick stride. Good rhythm, explosive lower half with good balance throughout his swing. Very short to the ball with good extension through it, level swing that gets uphill sometimes. Pull approach and some juice with an exit velocity of 78. Behind the plate, soft hands receiving. Quick feet and exchange, gaining ground to his release. Short arm action from a high three-quarters arm slot. Position velocity was 69 and he was accurate with his throws, pop times ranged from 2.06-2.20.

Nicholas Torroella OF Mt. St. Joseph’s 2017 (Catholic)
Torroella is 5-11 with an athletic frame and good speed, running a 6.88 60 yard dash. Hits from the right side from a balanced, athletic stance. Good rhythm, leg kick stride with a short load back. Decent lower half and good balance throughout swing. Short to the ball with a level swing path, line drive approach with an exit velocity of 81. In the outfield, gets behind the ball well and plays through it. Clean exchange, throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a loose arm with good carry, position velocity was 87.

Donnell Troy C DeMatha 2018
Troy is 5-10 and has an athletic frame, running a 7.29 60 yard dash. Hits from the right side from an athletic stance, good rhythm, small stride and short load back. Explosive hips and decent balance throughout the swing. Very short to the ball with extension through it, level swing that gets uphill at times, pull approach with an exit velocity of 82. Behind the plate, above average receiver with strong hands. Clean exchange, gaining ground as he transfers. Throws from high three-quarters arm slot with short arm action, position velocity of 64, pop times 2.37-2.40.

Cameron Tyson SS St. Mary’s 2020
Tyson is 5-7 and has a lanky frame, running a 7.41 60 yard dash. Hits from the right side from a balanced, athletic stance. Low hands, short stride forward and short load back with decent rhythm. Good hips and decent balance throughout his swing. Very short to the ball, level swing path and a line drive hitter with an exit velocity of 72. Above average feet and soft hands. Clean exchange, playing through the ball. Throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a short arm action, position velocity of 67.

Gavin Umphries SS South River 2019
Umphries is 5-9 and has an athletic frame, he ran a 4.58 home to first time. He hits from the right side from an athletic stance. He has a leg kick stride and a short load back. Decent lower half and above average balance throughout his swing. Longer level swing path with a pull approach, exit velocity was 75. On the infield, decent footwork and soft hands, clean exchange working through the ball. Short arm action from a three-quarters arm slot, position velocity of 74. On the mound, drop and drive delivery with a long arm action from a three-quarters arm slot. Shoulders are uphill as he strides on line to an open landing with an athletic finish. Fastball sat 74-75 touching 77 with some late run. Curveball has 11/5 action with good armspeed, running 60-62. Changeup had decent armspeed and sinking action, running 66-68.

Clay Wargo C St. Mary’s 2020
Wargo is 5-10 with an athletic frame and ran a 7.51 60 yard dash. He hits from the right side from an athletic stance. Good rhythm, smooth load back and a short leg kick stride. Decent lower half and good balance throughout his swing. Hands get to the ball quickly, mostly level swing, sometimes getting uphill with extension through the ball. Pull approach with power potential, exit velocity was 80. Behind the plate, receives the ball well with soft, firm hands. Quick, clean exchange with good footwork, short arm action that is loose from a high three-quarters arm slot. Position velocity was 74 with pop times from 1.95 to 2.05, arm was accurate.

Jacob Way SS St. Mary’s 2020
Way is 5-6 and has a lanky frame, running a 4.69 home to first. Hits from the right side with an athletic stance, short load back with a short leg kick stride. Good lower half and balance throughout his swing. Short to the ball with good extension through it on a line drive swing, exit velocity was 76. Good feet in the infield with a wide base and soft hands. Works around and through the ball well, pushing into transfer and quick release. Throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with a short, loose arm action, position velocity was 74.

Craig Wiley SS Howard 2018
Wiley is 5-8 with a lanky frame, running a 7.07 60 yard dash. He hits from the right side with a balanced athletic stance. Good rhythm, short leg kick stride and a smooth load back. Explosive hips and good balance throughout his swing. Very short to the ball with quick hands, extends through the ball well, line drive swing with gap power potential, exit velocity of 77. Decent footwork and soft hands in the infield. Plays through the ball well into a clean exchange. Throws from a lower three-quarters arm slot with a loose arm action, position velocity was 76.

Bryce Wingate SS CH Flowers 2018
Wingate is 6-0 tall with a lanky frame and ran a 4.58 home to first. Hits from the right side from an open stance. Short stride on line with a short load, good hips and good balance throughout his swing. Level swing path with extension through the baseball, line drive swing with an exit velocity of 71. On the infield, above average footwork and average hands. Decent exchange, throws from a lower three-quarters arm slot with a short arm action, position velocity of 73. On the mound, drop and drive delivery, throwing from a three-quarters arm slot with a short arm action. Shoulders are uphill and on line, strides to a square landing with an athletic finish and a bit of recoil. Fastball was 67-69, touching 71, with some sink. Curveball was 53-55 with 12/6 action. 

Jake Winter C Severn 2018
Winter is 5-8 and has an athletic frame. He hits from the right side from an athletic stance, short leg kick stride with no load. Decent lower half and solid balance throughout swing. Hands are short to ball with a level or sometimes uphill path, pull approach with an exit velocity of 71. Behind the plate, firm receiver with decent hands. Clean exchange, throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a short arm action. Position velocity was 62 and pop times were 2.40-2.45.

David Yohe 3B South River 2018
Yohe is 6-1 with a strong lower half. Hits from the left side from an upright stance with high hands, leg kick stride, drops hands a bit as he loads them back. Ok hips and decent balance throughout swing. Pull approach working uphill to the ball with extension through it, exit velocity was 83. At third base, above average footwork and soft hands. Clean exchange, playing through ball well. Throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with a short arm action, position velocity of 67.

Reggie Zayas 1B DeMatha 2018
Zayas is 5-7 with a strong lower half. Hits from the right side from a crouched stance, short stride forward and smooth load back. Decent hips and solid balance throughout his swing. Short to the ball with a level swing and decent extension through it, exit velocity of 77. At first base, average feet and hands. Pushes through the ball and throws from a three-quarters arm slot, position velocity of 64.
