Southern Maryland ID: 2019 & 2020 Analysis

The Southern Maryland ID took place on August 9th, 2016. Over 20 prospects from around the Southern region of Maryland and across the state took part in the event in front of the PBR Maryland staff and local colleges. Today we break down the 2019 and 2020 grads from the event.

Justin Carboni OF/SS Walt Whitman 2019
Athletic and projectable frame at 6-foot, 155-pounds. Hits from a tall, set up. Smoother load to stride. Slight drift. Shorter swing path to the baseball with quick hands. Nice balance throughout and has some extension through contact. Active feet in the outfield Clean transfer throwing from a high ¾ arm slot. Shows arm speed and more in throws that are currently at 81 mph. 82 mph exit velocity and ran a 7.01 60-yard dash.

Nick Cinquanto SS St. Mary’s 2019
Compact frame at 5-foot-6, 155-pounds. Hits from an athletic set up at the plate. Short load to hitting position. Shorter swing path with quick hands at the plate. Get some extension through contact and does get around ball at times. Nice balanace and has a middle approach. Solid foundation at the plate. Active feet in the infield with clean actions and soft hands. Clean exchange throwing with a short arm action throwing from a ¾ arm slot. Throws are accurate across the diamond.

Zach Crampton SS Saint James 2019
Athletic and projectable frame at 5-foot-11, 170-pounds. Hits from an athletic set up with a little crouch. Sinks into load with stride to hitting position. Has a shorter swing path to the baseball with some extension through contact. Middle type hitter with nice rhythm and balance. Active feet in the infield. Clean hands with quick exchange with a shorter arm action throwing from a high ¾ slot. Projectable body and should continue to grow and get stronger. Ran a 7.35 60-yard dash.

Brock Goodwin LHP St. Mary’s 2019
Long projectable frame at 6-foot-3, 172-pounds. Controlled delivery with nice pace throughout. Longer free arm action and shows nice whip through extension. Gets some lower half involved but could continue to get more. Throws from a high ¾ arm slot and lands square to the plate in an athletic finish. Fastball has slight sink to the pitch up to 75 mph. Two seam gets slight run and sink to the pitch. Breaking ball shows 1/7 almost 12/6 action on the pitch with nice rotation and later break and potential. Changeup has dive to the pitch with near fastball arm speed.

Ryan Nolan 1B Boonsboro 2019
Athletic stronger frame at 6-foot-2, 205-pounds. Hits from a taller, slightly open set up. Suqares up in load with slight double tap style load. Short, level swing path with some bat speed. Stayed inside ball well and got barrel on ball consistently. Showed some strength at the plate with power potential. Could get some better extension through contact as he continues to develop. Active feet with sound actions in the infield. Shorter arm action throwing from a high ¾ slot. Gets rid of ball quickly. Solid foundation and one to keep an eye on to monitor development.

Jaden Shea 2B Archbishop Spalding 2020
Smaller frame at 5-foot-1, 115-pounds. Hits from slightly crouched set up. Smooth load to hitting position. Short swing path, stayed inside ball well to get barrel on ball. Exit velo of 62 mph. Sound and clean actions from the infield. Clean exchange shorter, quick arm action throwing from a high ¾ arm slot. Solid fundamentals across the board and should develop as he gets stronger.

Clay Wargo, C St. Mary’s 2020
Athletic frame at 5-foot-10, 193-pounds. Hits from an athletic set up. Smooth load to hitting position. Level swing path with some bat speed and stays inside the ball well. Shows some rhythm throughout. Could free hands up a bit. Looks to have some power potential at the plate. Gets around the ball at times. Clean quick exchange with quick catch and throw ability. Short arm action and pop time ranged from 2.01 – 2.13. Very interesting young prospect to follow.

Dylan Young 2B/RHP Chesapeake 2019
Solid frame with room for some growth at 5-foot-8, 130-pounds. Hits from an athletic set up. High leg kick in load. Short swing path in and out of the zone with quick hands. Showed some rhythm throughout and average balance. Solid foundation at plate. Sound fundamentals in the infield. Clean hands and exchange with solid transfer and a loose arm action throwing from a ¾ arm slot…Controlled delivery throwing from a high ¾ arm slot. Loose, free arm action with some arm speed. Gets some lower half and could get better hip involvement. Slight finish to the first base side. Fastball has slight sink on the pitch at 75 mph. Breaking ball has 11/5 action on the pitch with some depth on it and nice rotation and near fastball arm speed. Change up has fade to the pitch with near fastball arm speed at 70 mph.
