2017 Super 60: Complete Outfielder Analysis

Collectively, the eight outfielders at the 15th Annual Super 60 showcased electric tools across the board, starting with speed. How fast, exactly? The average laser-timed 60 of the group was 6.63, headlined by Jack Schneider’s blazing 6.30, which shattered the event record.

The outfielders were also responsible for two of the top offensive performances, delivered by 2018 Jarred Kelenic and Jacob Pearson, both left-handed hitters. On a whole, Kelenic stole the show as the top overall prospect at the event, despite being the only junior invited. Brad Czernejewski recorded the top exit velocity with 106 mph, with the average among the group at 96.5 with wood. Schneider, a wiry strong quick-twitch athlete from Kentucky, also set the outfield velocity record with 98 mph.

Here’s an in-depth look at all eight outfielders who performed on February 5 at The Max in McCook, IL, listed alphabetically:

Jarred Kelenic, OF, Waukesha West HS, WI (2018)
Louisville recruit. 6-foot-1, 190-pound left-handed hitting outfielder, advanced strength for age, rock-solid muscle with a defined lower half and proportional strength throughout. Currently ranked No. 1 in 2018 overall rankings, and only solidified his status with his stellar performance at the Super 60. As the only junior at the event, he was unequivocally the top prospect in attendance. A true five-tool prospect. Offensively, Kelenic has a balanced, compact swing with simple explosive strength, along with advanced rhythm and timing. His barrel awareness and presence in the box far exceeds his years. He shows power to all fields as he recorded a 102 exit velocity with wood. Defensively, he has plus arm strength and true carry on his throws. He was clocked at 91 mph from the outfield, with all of his throws seemingly accelerating as the ball neared the catcher. He kicked off his day by running a 6.61 laser-timed 60, fourth fastest at the event. And he did it all of the above with a substantial cut on his finger of his throwing hand. ...
