TPG III: Pitcher Breakdown

In late-July, over 30 players took part in our Top Prospect Games III showcase at Bryant & Stratton College in Virginia Beach. Today, we continue our breakdown of that event with the pitchers:

 

Connor Balcom SS / RHP / Patriot , VA / 2023

Balcom is 5-10 with a lanky frame that has a lot of projection left to it. He throws from a high three-quarters arm slot, longer free arm action and normal effort to his delivery. Shoulders are slightly uphill and closed, lands slightly open with an athletic finish. Fastball was 65-67, touching 68, with late sink to it. Curveball had some armspeed and was 55-57 with gradual 11/5 break to it. Change-up was 60-62 with good armspeed and heavy run to it.

 

 

Aiden Barry RHP / OF / Warhill , VA / 2021

Barry is 6-2 with a very lanky frame that has a lot of projection left to it. He throws from a higher three-quarters arm slot, long free arm action and normal effort to his delivery. Crossfire delivery, shoulders are level and closed, lands closed with an athletic finish. Fastball was 77-81, with some late sink to it. Curveball had some armspeed and was 67-71 with gradual 10/4 break to it. Change-up was 73-75 with good armspeed and some fade to it.

 

 

Gavin Brunsman 3B / 2B / Bishop Ireton, VA / 2022

Brunsman is 6-2 with a lankier athletic frame that has a lot of projection left to it. He throws from a high three-quarters arm slot, breaks long before shortening his arm action at stroke, quick loose arm and some effort to his delivery. Shoulders are downhill and closed, lands square with a slight fall off finish. Fastball was 77-81, touching 82, with some late armside run to it. Curveball had some armspeed and was 65-68 with gradual 11/5 break to it and some shape to it.

 

 

Finn Cousins RHP / SS / Gonzaga , VA / 2021

Cousins is 5-10 with an athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He throws from a three-quarters arm slot, short quick arm action that is loose and some effort to his delivery. Shoulders are slightly uphill and closed, lands closed with a slight fall off finish and recoil. Fastball was 76-79, with armside run to it. Slider had some armspeed and was 66-71 with late hard 10/4 break to it. Change-up had good armspeed was 69-70 with hard late fade.

 

 

Traylor DuVal RHP / OF / JR Tucker, VA / 2021

DuVal is 6-1 with an athletic frame that has some strength present and some projection left to it. He throws from a low three-quarters arm slot, short quick arm action that is free and some effort to his delivery. Shoulders are level and slightly closed, lands slightly open with a fall off finish. Fastball was 83-84, with heavy armside run to it. Curveball had good armspeed and was 64-67 with sharp hard 11/5 break to it. Change-up had good armspeed was 76-77 with heavy fade. Showed command of all three pitches.

 

 

Brian Ferreira RHP / 3B / Huntingtown, MD / 2021

Ferreira is 5-10 with an athletic frame that has some strength present in the lower half and some projection left to it. He throws from a low three-quarters arm slot, longer quick arm action that is free and effort to his delivery. Shoulders are slightly downhill and closed, lands slightly open with a fall off finish and recoil. Fastball was 80-84, touching 85, with late hard armside two-plane movement. Curveball had good armspeed and was 67-70 with sharp 11/5 break to it. Change-up had good armspeed and was 72-75 with heavy sink. Showed command of all three pitches. Showed ability to change-up rhythm and timing of his delivery without affecting command.

 

 

Zach Horn LHP / 1B / Brooke Point, VA / 2023

Horn is 6-2 with a lanky athletic frame that has a lot of projection left to it. He throws from a high three-quarters arm slot, short quick arm action that is free and some effort to his delivery. Shoulders are uphill and closed, lands open with a hard fall off finish. Fastball was 75-80, with some late sink to it. Curveball had some armspeed and was 60-64 with gradual 1/7 break to it and some shape. Change-up had some armspeed and was 66-70 with heavy run.

 

 

Gregory Joe LHP / OF / Colonial Forge , VA / 2021

Joe is 5-11 with a lankier athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He throws from a higher three-quarters arm slot, short free arm action and some effort to his delivery. Shoulders are uphill and closed, lands open with an athletic finish and some recoil. Fastball was 74-77, with downward plane and some late run to it. Curveball had good armspeed and was 70-72 with gradual 1/7 break to it and some shape. Change-up had some armspeed and was 64-65 with some sink.

 

 

Jack Kaczmarek RHP / OF / Patrick Henry, VA / 2022

Kaczmarek is 6-4 with a lankier athletic frame that has long levers and some projection left to it. He throws from a higher three-quarters arm slot, short loose arm action that is quick and some effort to his delivery. Shoulders are level and closed, lands closed with a fall off finish. Fastball was 77-83, touching 84, with some downward plane and some late run to it that got some depth. Curveball had good armspeed and was 67-68 with gradual 11/5 break to it and some shape that has a chance to tighten into a good pitch. Change-up had some armspeed and was 68-72 with some sink.

 

 

Conner Kingery RHP / 3B / Grassfield , VA / 2022

Kingery is 5-11 with an athletic frame that has plenty of projection left to it. He throws from a three-quarters arm slot, long free arm action and some effort to his delivery. Shoulders are level and closed, lands closed with an athletic finish. Fastball was 76-80, touching 81, with armside run to it that gets heavy at times. Curveball had some armspeed and was 65-67 with gradual 10/4 break to it.

 

 

Neo Klemish OF / RHP / Grafton, VA / 2022

Klemish is 5-8 with an athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He throws from a higher three-quarters arm slot, longer free arm action and some effort to his delivery. Shoulders are slightly uphill and closed, lands closed with an athletic finish and some recoil. Fastball was 72-75, touching 76, some armside run to it that has depth. Curveball had some armspeed and was 63-66 with sharp 11/5 break to it.

 

 

Garrett Mason OF / RHP / Mills E. Godwin , VA / 2023

Mason is 6-3 with a lankier athletic frame that has some strength present and a lot of projection left to it. He throws from a low three-quarters arm slot, short loose quick arm action and easier effort to his delivery. Shoulders are level and closed, lands square with a fall off finish. Fastball was 79-80, with heavy armside run to it that has some depth as well. Slider had good armspeed and was 69-72 with late 10/4 break to it, pitch has shape and potential to be swing and miss.

 

 

Ryan Northup RHP / SS / First Colonial , VA / 2022

Northup is 5-11 with a lanky frame that has a lot of projection left to it. He throws from a low three-quarters arm slot, short free arm action and normal effort to his delivery. Shoulders are level and closed, lands closed with an athletic finish. Fastball was 75-77, touching 78, with some late armside run to it. Curveball had some armspeed and was 63-66 with sharp 11/5 break to it.

 

 

Evan Schick SS / RHP / Lake Braddock, VA / 2023

Schick is 5-10 with a athletic frame that has plenty of projection left to it. He throws from a higher three-quarters arm slot, short free arm action and some effort to his delivery. Shoulders are slightly uphill and closed, swings into an open landing with a fall off finish. Fastball was 72-75, touching 76, with some late cut and sink to it. Curveball had some armspeed and was 61-64 with sharp 12/6 break to it.

 

 

Payton Shipman RHP / SS / Isle of Wight Academy, VA / 2023

Shipman is 6-0 with a athletic frame that has plenty of projection left to it. He throws from a sidearm slot, longer loose arm action and some effort to his delivery. Drop and drive delivery, shoulders are downhill and closed, lands closed with a slight fall off finish and some recoil. Fastball was 76-79, touching 80, with heavy run to armside that gets some depth as well. Curveball had good armspeed and was 69-71 with sharp 10/4 break to it, pitch has swing and miss potential. Change-up was 71-73 with good armspeed and heavy sink.

 

 

Jordan Tyler RHP / OF / Grassfield , VA / 2022

Tyler is 5-10 with a lankier athletic frame that has a lot of projection left to it. He throws from a high three-quarters arm slot, short free arm action and some effort to his delivery. Shoulders are uphill and closed, lands closed with a slight fall off finish and some recoil. Fastball was 71-75, touching 76, with some armside run to it. Curveball was 57-60 with gradual 11/5 break to it.
