Close to 30 uncommitted players from the 2020 - 2022 graduating classes came to Salisbury University this year for the PBR Maryland Top Prospect Games East. Tons of talent was on display as each player participated in a pro-style workout and game in front of college coaches from around the region and our PBR scouting staff. Below is an analysis of each of the catchers and outfielders at the event. Top Prospect Games East: Catchers

 

Brandon M Bradshaw C / RHP / CH Flowers, MD / 2021

Strong, athletic body type and 5’8’’, 185 pound frame. Hits from a balanced, square stance at the plate. Small leg kick load with some hand separation. Controlled movements, explosive lower half involvement, quick hands, and fast bat speed. Stays behind the ball well excellent balance throughout the swing. Slightly uphill swing path with good extension and a strong finish. Easy swing, gap-to-gap type hitter with pop. Recorded an exit velocity of 82 mph. Quiet behind the plate receiving. Showed quick footwork and clean exchanges on throws to second base. Throws with short arm action from a high three-quarter slot at 66 mph. Pop times ranged 2.16 - 2.20. Ran a 8.25 60-yard time.


Cole Gursky C / RHP / Snow Hill, MD / 2020

Long, lean, athletic body type and projectable 6’3’’, 175 pound frame. Hits from a balanced, open stance at the plate. Small leg kick load and short stride creating some hand separation. Explosive lower half involvement, quick hands, and generates fast bat speed through the zone. Attacks the ball with intent. More level swing path with good extension past contact and a strong finish. Stays behind the ball well and did a nice job using the whole field in approach. Gap-to-gap line drive type hitter with some pop and more projected. Recorded an exit velocity of 88 mph. Quiet body receiving behind the plate. Quick footwork on throws to second base and squares shoulders to the bag on throws. Quick exchanges, throwing from a high three-quarter slot with short arm action at 80 mph. Slight pause at top of throw. Throws showed carry and pop times ranged 1.90 - 2.15. Ran a 7.19 60-yard time.


Dakota Wright C / 1B / Huntingtown, MD / 2021

Big, strong body type and 5’10, 210 pound frame. Hits from a balanced, open stance at the plate. Medium sized leg kick load with good hand separation. Strong lower half involvement,  quick hands and fast bat speed. Level swing path with good extension and a strong finish. Showed nice balance throughout the swing and pop to the gaps. Strong swing. Recorded a 92 mph exit velocity. Quiet body receiving behind the plate. Steps around plate on throws to second base but gains ground and showed quick footwork and fast exchanges. Throws with short arm action from a mid three-quarters slot at 73 mph. Ball showed some carry on it to second and pop times ranged 1.96 - 2.02. Ran a 7.90 60-yard time.

 

Top Prospect Games East: Outfielders

 

Dhane Blair OF / OF / St. Mary's, MD / 2020

Extremely athletic, strong body type and 5’6’’, 135 pound frame. Hits from a balanced, square stance at the plate with bat head resting just above back shoulder. Rock back load with a slight toe tap. Explosive lower half, quick hands, and fast bat speed through the zone. Short, compact, level swing and attacks the ball with intent. Stays behind the ball well with good balance and uses the whole field. Line drive type hitter with some pop. Recorded an exit velocity of 80 mph. Works to get behind the ball in the outfield with momentum coming towards the plate on throw. Throws with shorter arm action from a high three-quarter slot at 78 mph. Glides to the ball effortlessly in the outfield and tracks the ball very well. Ran an event best 6.69 60-yard time.


Joey Bowers OF / Sherwood, MD / 2020

Athletic, strong body type and 5’9’’, 155 pound frame. Hits from a balanced, slightly open stance at the plate with hands held high even with his head. Small leg kick load and good hand separation. Short, slightly uphill swing path with quick hands and quick bat speed. Strong lower half involvement and stays behind the ball well with good balance in the swing. Uses the whole field very well and showed a nice line drive approach with a strong finish. Line drive type hitter with occasional pop. Recorded an exit velocity of 84 mph. Gets behind the ball well in the outfield and carries momentum through the throw. Showed clean exchanges and some carry on throws to the plate. Throws with longer arm action from a low-mid three-quarters slot at 84 mph. Tracks the ball well in the outfield and showed a lot of speed. Ran a 6.87 60-yard time. 


Cooper Fulton OF / SS / Kent Island, MD / 2020

Athletic body type and projectable 6’1’’, 170 pound frame. Hits from a balanced, open stance at the plate. High leg kick load and creates some hand separation. Average stride length landing slightly open at foot-strike. Strong lower half involvement, quick hands, and quick bat speed through the hitting zone. Gap-to-gap type line drive type hitter with pop. Really did a nice job using the whole field. Works to get behind the ball in the outfield and carries momentum through the throw. Clean exchanges and throws with shorter arm action from a high three-quarter slot at 77 mph. Ran a 7.26 60-yard time.


Thomas Joseph OF / 1B / Archbishop Spalding, MD / 2021

Strong, physical body type and projectable 6’3’’, 200 pound frame. Hits from a balanced, slightly open stance at the plate. Smooth back load with a slight toe tap. Creates nice hand separation and attacks the ball with intent. Explosive lower half, quick hands, and fast bat speed through the zone. Short to the ball with a slightly uphill swing path and excellent balance throughout the swing. Good extension and a strong finish. Present strength at the plate and showed plus power to all fields on multiple occasions. Recorded an event best exit velocity of 94 mph. Works to get behind the ball and showed off a strong arm. Ball showed carry to the plate at 86 mph. Throws with longer arm action from a high three-quarter slot. Ran a 7.52 60-yard time. 


David Johnson, Jr OF / SS / North Dorchester, MD / 2020

Athletic body type and projectable 6’2’’, 146 pound frame. Hits from a balanced, square stance at the plate. Quick toe tap load and some hand separation. Short to the ball with a level swing path and average lower half involvement. Good extension and a strong finish. Quick hands and bat speed through the zone. Nice line drive approach working gap-to-gap. Recorded an exit velocity of 83 mph. Plays through the ball in the outfield with fundamental footwork and throws with long arm action from a high three-quarter slot at 75 mph. Ran a 7.20 60-yard time.
