This week we take one final look at the the roster from our Top Prospect Games at the University of Maryland. We begin today with a full analysis of the outfielders starting with our top performers.

TOP OUTFIELD PERFORMERS

 

Justin Carboni OF / RHP / Walt Whitman, MD / 2019

Solid, compact, athletic body type with a 6’0’’, 165 pound frame. Hits from an athletic, slightly crouched, and slightly open stance at the plate. Fires hips and explodes with lower half. Good balance and fluid rhythm at the plate with an average stride. Explosive hands and fast bat speed. Gets really good extension and has a slightly uphill swing path. Gap-to-gap type hitter with pull side power, exit velo 89 mph. Very athletic in the outfield and can really run balls down in the gaps. Made a couple outstanding plays leaving his feet during the game. Plays with quick active feet and works through the ball in the outfield. Showed a quick, clean exchange with a longer arm action from a high three-quarter arm slot. Ball showed good carry and some life at 86 mph. Ran a 4.06 home-to-first.


Charles Hafer III OF / C / John Carroll , MD / 2020

Solid 6-foot-1, 200 pound frame with a strong lower half. Hits from a balanced, athletic, slightly closed stance at the plate. Shorter back load and average stride length. Explosive lower half movements. Quick bat speed and slightly uphill swing path, exit velo 91 mph. Attacks the ball and plays through it well in the outfield. Longer uphill arm actions throwing from a lower three-quarters slot at 80 mph. Taps glove to load into throw before exchange.


Derrick Booker OF / Archbishop Curley , MD / 2019

Solid, athletic body type with still more room to grow and fill out at 5-foot-9, 155 pounds. Hits from a tall, slightly open stance at the plate. Uses a leg kick for rhythm and timing. Stays balanced and shows fluidity throughout the swing. Short stride with really nice lower half explosiveness at times. Quick bat speed and a short uphill swing path. Gets good extension through contact with an exit velo of 81 mph. Gap-to-gap type hitter who showed the ability to use all fields. Turns very well on the ball middle-in and has some pull side power. Stays behind the ball well and finishes tall. Ran a 3.97 home-to-first from the left side. Plays through the ball but slows his body down on ground balls in the outfield. Has a tendency to tap his glove in exchange. Short arm actions and throws from a high three-quarter arm slot at 73 mph. 


Ben Nardi 1B / OF / Winston Churchill, MD / 2019

Big, solid 6-foot-1, 195 pound frame. Hits from an athletic, balanced, open stance. Uses a big leg kick and some hand/bat movement in load for rhythm and timing. Gets nice separation and has an explosive lower half. Quick hands, fast bat speed, and stays behind the ball well. Short uphill swing path with an exit velo of 90 mph. Gap-to-gap type hitter with present pull side power. Attacks the ball in the outfield and plays through it. Shorter arm actions and throws from a low three-quarters slot at 81 mph from the outfield and 76 form the infield. Ball has good carry on it from the outfield. Athletic set up in the infield and good hands. Does a nice job with his footwork around the bag and turning the double play. Has a tendency to pat his glove during exchange. Ran a 4.26 home-to-first.

Ian Adams OF Old Mill 2019
Athletic body type and 5-foot-11, 160 pounds frame with room to grow and fill out. Athletic, balanced stance at the plate. Smooth back load with short stride. Average lower half involvement. Compact swing on a level path. Would like to see him get more from his lower half to help produce more power. Line drive type hitter with an exit velo of 82 mph. Throws with a shorter arm action at a low three-quarters arm slot from the outfield. Was consistently accurate and up to 80 mph. Plays with active feet and works through the ball. Clean exchange and can go get it. Ran 4.03 home-to-first.

Brett Berquist OF Stephen Decatur 2019
Athletic, lanky 5-foot-11, 160 pound body type and frame. Attacks the ball and plays through it in the outfield with fluid footwork. Shorter arm action throwing from a high three-quarters arm slot at 80 mph. Taps glove during exchange.

Elias Hageman OF Urbana 2019
Athletic and lanky body type. 6 foot, 155 pound frame with room to fill out. Hits from an athletic, slightly crouched, open stance. Smooth back load and short stride. Does a nice job getting his lower half involved. Short, level swing path and quick hands. Line drive type hitter with occasional gap-to-gap power. Shows balance and a fluid rhythm throughout swing, stays behind the ball well. Long, loose arm actions in the outfield throwing from a high three-quarters arm slot. Attacks the ball and plays through with a clean exchange, outfield velo 77 mph. Ran a 4.19 home-to-first.

Ryan Kulick OF Howard 2019
Solid 5-foot-11, 200 pound frame. Hits from a tall, balanced, slightly open stance. Smooth rock back load with a toe tap for timing. Gets some lower half involvement and hits from back side. Showed the ability to spray the ball well to all fields. Quick hands and bat speed with a short, slightly uphill swing path. Gap-to-gap type hitter with occasional pop, exit velo 85 mph. Plays through the ball well in the outfield and has a long arm action throwing from a high three-quarters arm slot at 79 mph. Slower exchange with several steps.

Duke Marlowe OF Calvert 2019
Athletic body type and 5-foot-11, 165 pound frame with room to fill out. Hits from an athletic, balanced, open stance. Smooth rock back load with a small leg kick for timing. Gets really good separation and some lower half involvement is evident in his swing. Good rhythm and some bat speed, stays behind the ball well. Short, uphill swing path, gap-to-gap type hitter. Showed the ability to hit the ball to all fields. Plays through the ball in the outfield with fluid footwork and a quick clean exchange. Consistently accurate on throws with long, loose arm action throwing from a high three-quarters slot at 81 mph. Ran a 4.09 home-to-first.

Stevie Orsini OF Poolesville 2021
Athletic, projectable frame at 5-foot-10, 180-pounds. Hits from an athletic, slightly open setup. Smooth rock-back load to hitting position with heel lift. Slight glide out to hitting position from front foot. High hands work down to the ball direct with shorter path. Gets up hill at contact point with high finish. Fires hips through in front side at contact with weight shift back through finish to backside. Exit velo 90 mph. Plays through the ball in the outfield with clean exchange. Longer arm action and high three-quarter arm slot at 83 mph. Ran a 4.16 home-to-first.

Eric Sledge OF Stonewall Jackson (VA) 2020
Strong, athletic body type. 5-foot-11, 175 pound frame with even more room to fill out. Hits from an athletic, balanced, slightly crouched stance. Has a small leg kick and short quick rock-back load. Does a nice job incorporating his lower half into his swing. Explosive bat speed and very quick hands. Exit velo 83 mph. More of a level swing path with good extension through contact and stays on the ball well to all fields. Line drive, gap-to-gap type hitter with occasional pop. Attacks the baseball and plays through it in the outfield. Fluid footwork into crow-hop with a clean, quick exchange. Throws with shorter arm actions from a high three-quarters arm slot. Ran a 3.81 home-to-first.

Cameron Snyder OF Northern 2020
Athletic, long, lanky body type. Projectable 6-foot-2, 170 pound frame. Hits from a balanced, slightly crouched, and slightly open stance. Has a shorter quick load. Generates some lower half involvement and showed quick bat speed with an exit velo up to 80 mph. Uphill swing path, gap-to-gap type hitter with occasional pop. Plays through the ball in the outfield with fluid footwork and a clean exchange. Throws with long, loose arm actions from a high three-quarters arm slot at 82 mph. Get good carry on throws. Ran a 4.28 home-to-first.

Peyton Taylor OF Kent County 2020
Strong, solid, athletic body type. 5-foot-9 165 pound frame. Hits from an athletic, balanced, slightly open stance. Short, smooth back load with leg kick. Showed some lower half involvement and bat speed. Uphill swing path and works body uphill as well at contact finishing high. Gets good separation and had an exit velo of 83 mph. Gap-to-gap type hitter with some pop. Attacks and plays through the ball in the outfield. Fluid footwork and quick, clean exchange into crow hop. Throws with shorter arm actions from a high three-quarters arm slot at 78 mph. Ran a 4.17 home-to-first.

Zack Zindler OF Walt Whitman 2021
Athletic, compact body type. 5-foot-8, 160 pound frame with room to grow and fill out. Hits from an athletic, balanced, slightly open stance. Compact, high leg kick load to back side. Sits crouched on back leg and gets uphill through contact. Good lower half involvement and showed some bat speed. Longer uphill swing path and exit velo of 78 mph. Gap-to-gap type hitter with occasional pop. Plays through the ball with good footwork in the outfield. Quick clean exchange and stays low to the ground. Shorter arm actions throwing from a high three-quarters arm slot. Ran a 4.16 home-to-first.
