The 2015 Prep Baseball Report Top Prospect Games took place Tuesday, June 30th at the University of Maryland in College Park, MD. 51 of the top 2016, 2017, and select 2018 prospects came and put their ability on display in front of the PBR scouting staff and many college coaches from around the area.

Over the course of this week were will be releasing position-by-position analysis articles with scouting reports on each player and identifying the top performers.  Two-way prospects will appear in a positional analysis as well as pitching analysis.  We shall identify top performers in each positional breakdown along with a younger talent (2018, 2019) as a Future Watch if applicable.

Today we look at the Outfielders that participated in the event. 

Top Performers

Ryan Brown OF St. James 2016
Athletic frame at 5-foot-10 170 pounds.  Balanced set up. Fluid rhythm in swing.  Occasionally gets on front foot but balance is strong in swing.  Short path and fast bat speed with some extension and some potential for pop.  Gap-to-gap style hitting.  Throws from an over-the-top arm angle with a long arm action. Throws have carry on them at 83 mph. Soft hands, fluid footwork, clean exchange and plays through the ball well. Ran a 4.25 home-to-first and had an exit velocity of 90 mph.

LaVale Hodges OF Archbishop Spalding 2016
Solid frame at 6-foot 200-pounds.  Has a short and quick arm actions from the outfield throwing from a high ¾ arm angle. Throws have carry on them at 84 mph.  Fluid footwork and plays thru the ball. Gets rid of the ball quickly. Hits from a balanced set up with a short stride. Short path with fast bat speed. Front hip leaks at times.  Gap-to-gap hitting style with pull side power.  Room to grow with the prospect.  Was a 4.44 home to first and exit velocity of 91 mph.

Nathaniel Lowe OF Cambridge South Dorchester 2016
Athletic frame to build upon at 5-foot-10 150-pounds. Hits from an athletic and balanced set up.  Rhythm in load and a short stride.  Short path that gets slightly uphill at times with some bat speed. Good balance in swing and could increase lower half involvement. Athletic outfield moves well with some lateral quickness.  Long arm action from an almost over the top arm angle.  Throws were consistent and accurate at 80 mph.  Average hands, active feet.  Was a 4.30 home to first time and had an exit velocity of 88 mph.

Chase Ragsdale OF Bishop McNamara 2016
Compact and athletic frame at 5-foot-10 165-pounds.  From the outfield has a loose arm action throwing from a high ¾ arm angle.  Throws have life on them at 87 mph.  Fluid footwork with soft hands and a quick exchange.  Plays through the ball well. Hits from a slightly open setup with some rhythm and a short stride.  Short swing and pulls hands inside the ball.  Has some pull side power potential. Has some lower half in swing and get on back side in follow through.  Ran a 4.21 home to first and had an exit velocity of 84 mph.

Andrew Anawalt OF Severna Park 2016
5-foot-8 155-pounds. Hits from a balanced set up with a high leg kick.  Level swing path that gets slightly uphill with some bat speed. Does a good job finishing long through the baseball. Has some balance in swing and will get on heels at times. Quick first step in the outfield throwing from a high ¾ arm angle.  Works hard in the outfield and has a short arm action.  Throws had some carry on them at 76 mph.   Fluid footwork with a clean exchange and plays through the ball well. Ran a 4.55 home to first and had an exit velocity of 80 mph.

James Moses OF/LHP Loyola-Blakefield 2017
Solid and athletic frame at 5-foot-10 165-pounds. Hits from a slightly open stance and a simple stride.  Short path to the baseball with a barrel that stays in the zone.  Quick bat and direct to the ball.  Stays inside the baseball well. Has some balance in swing and gap-to-gap style ability.  Should develop some more pop as begins to use lower half efficiently. Long arm action from the outfield throwing from a high ¾ arm angle.  Throws have some carry on them at 78 mph.  Has fluid footwork from outfield and plays through the ball well. Clean exchange that will get quicker.  4.48 home to first time and 80 mph exit velocity.

Luke Oliphant OF Sussex Tech 2017
Solid compact frame at 5-foot-8 155-pounds. Hits from a tall, open set up.  Level bat path with average bat speed. Middle approach. Has a loose arm action from an over the top arm angle.  Throws have life on them and were accurate at 87 mph. Displayed soft hands, quick feet with a clean and fluid exchange.  Works thru the ball well.  Quick first step. Ran a 4.68 home to first and had an exit velocity of 81 mph.

Adante Rhodes OF Riverdale Baptist 2016
Athletic frame at Long arm action from the outfield throwing from an almost over-the-top arm angle.  Throws were accurate and had some carry on them at 78 mph.  Displayed fluid footwork with a clean exchange. Hits from a balanced set up with a level path and some bat speed. High hand set, short and simple load and stride.  Gets a little long at times on swing.  Ran a 4.68 home to first time and had an exit velocity of 87 mph.

Matt Smith OF/1B Parkside 2016
Put together with room for more at 6-foot-2 200-pounds.  Hits from a balanced set up with a high leg kick.  Short bat path with fast bat speed.  Has good balance in swing.   Line drive type hitter with power.  Strong.  From the outfield has a short arm action from a high ¾ arm angle.  Throws from the outfield were at 71 mph. throws were accurate and consistent.  Projects better as first basemen in college. As he increases his footwork and agility, very interesting prospect with some power potential.

Nicolas Torroella OF/RHP Mount St. Joseph 2017
Athletic frame at 5-foot-10 160-pounds.  Hits from an open set up with high hands.  Double tap load in longer stride.  Short, level bat path to the ball with average bat speed.   Gets lower half involved and has rhythm in swing.  Gets a bit on front foot at times. From the outfield, has as short quick arm action from a high ¾ arm angle.  Throws have some carry on them. Displays fluid footwork with a clean exchange.  As he gets his momentum going with his throws, will increase arm strength.  Velocity from the outfield was 83 mph.  Ran a 4.5 home to first and has an exit velocity of 81 mph. 

Dillion Waters OF/RHP Southern 2016
Hits from a balanced set up.  Smooth back load with a short stride. Level swing path and some bat speed.  Nice rhythm in swing and good balance. Gap-to-gap style with power potential. Has a long arm action throwing from a high ¾ arm angle.  Throws had carry on them at 83 mph. Active outfielder with a quick and confident first step.  Attacks baseball and gets rid of it.  Could get over front leg more consistently to get more velocity.  Ran a 4.56 home to first and had an exit velocity of 86 mph.
