Using sensor technology that fits on the knob of a bat, without impeding the player, Blast Motion collected data to analyze every hitter’s swing at this year's PBR Maryland Unsigned Senior Games. During batting practice, the Blast Motion sensors measured Swing and Impact Metrics across several categories. Swing metrics measure pre-impact mechanics centered around plane, connection, and rotation while Impact metrics measure pre-impact performance outcomes based on ball contact. Below are the top performers in five of the categories measured using the Blast Motion sensors.

BLAST SWING METRICS

ON PLANE EFFICIENCY

On plane efficiency measures the percentage of your swing where the bat is on the swing plane. (MLB average is 73%).

1 Brandon Werner OF Glenelg 2021 79%
T2 Andrew Leginze OF/RHP La Plata 2021 76%
T2 Zach Stanley C/2B Colonel Richardson 2021  76%
4 Garrett Osborne RHP/1B Urbana 2021 73%
5 Frank Dickenson OF/C Linganore 2021 72%

ROTATIONAL ACCELERATION

Rotational acceleration is how quickly your bat accelerates into the swing plane and is measured in G's (g-force). (MLB average is 16.8 G's).

1 Adrian Auber OF/SS Century 2021 26.2 g
2 Matthew Best OF/2B Good Counsel 2021  23.2 g
3 Frank Dickenson OF/C Linganore 2021
19.9 g
4 Zach Stanley C/2B Colonel Richardson 2021
18.2 g
5 Alexander Terry-Emanuel 2B/3B Heights 2021  18.0 g

blast IMPACT Metrics

BAT SPEED

Bat speed is defined as the total speed of the barrel at impact. (MLB average is 70.3 mph).

1 Alexander Terry-Emanuel 2B/3B Heights 2021 70.9 mph

5 Nick Worch 1B/RHP St. Mary's Ryken 2021 69.3 mph

POWER

Power is defined as bat mass (times) average acceleration (times) bat speed at impact and is measured in Watts. (MLB ideal range is 3.65 kw - 5.65 kw).

1 Alexander Terry-Emanuel 2B/3B Heights 2021
4.20 kW
2 Frank Dickenson OF/C Linganore 2021  4.12 kW
3 Matthew Best OF/2B Good Counsel 2021
4.09 kW
4 Drew Durrington OF/2B Good Counsel 2021
4.08 kW
5 Charlie Canapp C/OF North Harford 2021
4.04 kW

PEAK HAND SPEED

Peak hand speed is the fastest hand speed reached throughout the swing and occurs prior to the moment of impact, very close to the commit time in the swing when the wrists unhinge. (MLB ideal range is 23-29 mph).

1 Alexander Terry-Emanuel 2B/3B Heights 2021
24.0 mph
2 Adrian Auber OF/SS Century 2021
22.8 mph

23.0 mph
T5 Nick Worch 1B/RHP St. Mary's Ryken 2021
22.0 mph
T5 Drew Durrington OF/2B Good Counsel 2021 22.0 mph
