Another busy week of games across the Old Line State, as this scout blog edition will highlight three games across the backend of the week that included Calvert Hall vs DeMatha Catholic, Long Reach vs. Reservoir, and Catoctin vs. Liberty. Below you will find impact players from the games with video and scout notes on each.
DeMatha Catholic
Gabriel Chapman RHP / 1B / DeMatha Catholic, MD / 2025The senior McDaniel College commit got the start for DeMatha in a mid-week game against a high powered Calvert Hall offense, working 5+ innings, giving up three earned while striking out two. It’s a repeatable operation on the bump, attacking the zone early and often with the ability to run the fastball in/out effectively. The heater works in the low 80s with more in the tank with some cut action to it that works away to RHH’s. Chapman did feature a tight slider occasionally that shows promise as the confidence and feel increase. |
Calvert Hall
Kaden Barmer OF / Calvett Hall College, MD / 2025One of the more intriguing left-handed sticks in the conference, when Barmer is on, this Calvert Hall lineup gets even more dangerous. Possessing a unique tandem of speed and power at the bottom of this lineup, the Goldey-Beacom commit showcased a consistent ability to spray line drives to all fields in this one, finishing 1-for-3 with a couple loud barrels. Plate coverage and a simple approach, Barmer is at his best when he’s using the whole field and showcasing a high contact rate. |
Ryder Sowa RHP / 3B / CALVERT HALL COLLEGE HIGH SCHOOL, MD / 2027Following a standout freshman campaign, it’s tough to imagine Sowa taking yet another step in 2025, however, the right-hander has done just that. Got the start on the bump against a lethal DeMatha lineup and worked five scoreless, walking just two while striking out six. The fastball continues to tick up, now sitting comfortably in the upper 80s with the ability to reach back for an 89/90 on occasion, with the ability to spin it in the 2400s. The curveball is still developing and has all the makings of being a plus pitch as the feel and confidence increase, showcasing the ability to spin it in any count and inducing swing and miss down in the zone. This is one of the top arms in a loaded MIAA conference, and as the body matures and more athleticism is added, look for 2025 to be the year that Sowa garners national attention. |

Brayden Wolf C / 3B / Calvert Hall College, MD / 2025The senior Catholic University commit has taken over the starting job behind the plate and has shown the ability to impact the game on both sides. The hit tool has always impressed, showcasing pull-side strength with average to above average contact rate and the ability to occasionally spray line drives to both gaps. Arm strength has caught my attention early this spring and has really controlled the running game, showcasing quick and active feet behind the dish as well. |

Jake Dulski RHP / OF / Calvert Hall, MD / 2025One of the more eye-opening performances on the day came from senior Jake Dulski, coming out of the ‘pen and working 1.1 innings of scoreless ball. A huge uptick in velo since my last look, Dulski ran the fastball in the mid 80s, getting up to 87 with the ability to get swing and miss at the top of the zone. The breaking ball shows some late bite in the mid 70s with the ability to spin it in any count with confidence and feel. This is a huge bullpen arm for Calvert Hall that seems to be one of the top reliable options for Coach Kerr as the spring rolls on. |
Grayson Ryan RHP / C / CALVERT HALL COLLEGE HIGH SCHOOL, MD / 2027One of our favorite sophomore arms in the class, Grayson Ryan possesses the makeup and pitchability to make some serious noise throughout his high school career. It’s a high intent operation with quick arm speed and feel for the two-pitch mix, running the fastball in the mid 80s with plenty more in the tank. The curveball shows more 11/5 shape with the ability to tunnel well off the fastball, especially when down in the zone. A physical frame with more to add to it, look for 2025 to be the year that Ryan takes off on the bump. |
Reservoir
Matthew Russell RHP / SS / Reservoir High, MD / 2025One of the top arms across Howard County, the Towson commit backed up the statement with an eye-opening outing against Long Reach in an early spring matchup. Highly competitive and highly talented, Russell ran the heater into the upper 80s consistently and got up to 90 early on, showcasing the ability to consistently induce swing and miss on the devastating tight slider. Slight cross-body delivery adds deception on the bump and certainly makes for uncomfortable AB’s for opposing hitters. Offensively, Russell is a table-setter for this Reservoir lineup at the top and provides some well needed power and athleticism. Finished the day working four innings, giving up one earned run and punching seven while adding two hits including an RBI double at the plate. |

Gavin Metrick RHP / 3B / Reservoir High, MD / 2025Another highly talented two-way player on this Reservoir roster, Metrick is a “jack-of-all-trades” with the ability to impact the game in multiple facets. Offensively, Metrick is a prototypical two-hitter with a high contact rate and the ability to consistently spray line drives to all fields. Finished the day 1-for-4 with two RBI. |

Ben Tzuker RHP / OF / Reservoir High School, MD / 2025My first look at Tzuker impressed, coming out of the ‘pen to relieve Russell and slammed the door for the final three innings, giving up no hits, no runs, no walks while striking out two on 67% strikes. The fastball won’t necessarily blow by anybody, working in the low 80s, however plays extremely well off the low 70s curveball. This is an uncommitted senior arm poised for a huge spring across Howard County. |
Long Reach
Noah Murdock RHP / SS / Long Reach, MD / 2025I love the confidence and moxie that the Neumann commit works with and the stuff continues to tick up in each of our looks. The fastball works both sides of the plate in the low 80s with plenty of deception in the cross-body delivery and showcases the ability to induce consistent weak contact. The breaking ball plays well off the fastball, showcasing the ability to mix in any count. Battled adversity in this one, working five innings, giving up three earned while striking out four. |
Seth Rosenfeld 3B / 2B / Long Reach, MD / 2025Rosenfeld brings plenty of power and thump to the middle of this Long Reach lineup and every time I get a chance to see him, the Washington & Jefferson commit produces loud contact consistently. Utilizing loose, quick hands at the dish, the power is certainly loud to the pull side, staying within himself with consistent barrel feel. The ability to cut it down and use the hands with two strikes is impressive in itself, and the power that is still generated bodes well for a high contact/high production rate at the next level. |
Catoctin
Bryont Green SS / 2B / Catoctin High, MD / 2025A guy I have been a fan of throughout his high school career, Green is a prototypical leadoff stick with a high contact rate and line drive approach that continues to get better in each look. It’s a controlled, aggressive operation at the dish with quick hands and middle tendencies that allow this lineup to get rolling behind him. Finished the day 1-for-4. |
Liberty
![]() |
Nate Martin SS / 2B / Liberty, MD / 2025The reigning Carroll County Player of the Year is poised for yet another huge year at the dish for Liberty and showcased that consistently in the game against Catoctin. Finished the game 1-for-4 with a three-run home run and a couple loud barrels mixed in. It’s a relaxed setup with a timed up toe-tap load that engages the lower half, showcasing power to all fields with a strong line drive approach to the middle. Creating length through the zone with evident barrel feel, this is a hit tool that can be versatile throughout any college lineup and backs it up with clean defense up the middle. Augusta University certainly got a good one here. |
Carter Shanks 3B / RHP / Liberty High, MD / 2026One of the top under-the-radar bats in the junior class, Shanks impresses on both sides of the ball and showcased an explosive hit tool all day long. Finished his day 3-for-4 with three RBI and a plethora of loud barrels. The uncommitted junior flashes loud power to the pull side gap with rhythm in the hands and the consistent ability to backspin to the middle of the field, staying controlled in the operation. It’s an athletic, physical frame with strong lower-half involvement that should produce even more power as the body continues to mature. |
BRODY FREIERT SS / 3B / CALVERT HALL COLLEGE HIGH SCHOOL, MD / 2027Keep eyes on this uncommitted sophomore. A transfer into Carroll County this spring, Freiert adds his name to a deep and highly talented rotation at Liberty and should provide key innings on the bump throughout the spring. The fastball works in the low 80s with plenty more in the tank, working the heater to both sides and attacking the zone early and often. The slider is the “out” pitch, spinning it consistently away from right-handed hitter with the ability to induce swing and miss down. As this frame fills out, look for the velo to tick up and the off-speed stuff to get more crisp and tight. |
