2021 Future Games: Team Michigan - Top Performers

The tenth annual Future Games took place on July 28-31 at LakePoint in Emerson, Georgia. Top uncommitted prospects in the classes of 2023 and 2024 participated in one of the most popular events each year.

There were 32 teams, including Team Michigan, with players representing 38 states plus Canadian prospects. 

More than 330 scouts from across the country were looking on as approximately 500 players participated in this year’s event.

2021 Future Games: Team Michigan - Top Performers

Team Michigan went down to Georgia and showed out amongst some of the top uncommitted prospects in the nation. The 25 prospects who participated showed why they earned the invite to the prestigious event. Below we highlight some of the individuals who stood out.

Overall MVP

Alfredo Velazquez OF / LHP / Brother Rice, MI / 2023

Report: Two-way player appearing in his 2nd Future Games looked the part from start to finish. 5-foot-8 lefthander was lights out on the mound against Canada striking out 4 in 2 scoreless innings running his fastball up to 89 MPH. Strong arm was evident during the workout posting the top OF velo for Michigan at 91 MPH. Set the tone as the leadoff hitter with a pair of multi hit games while putting his 6.7 speed on display on the base paths

Best Pitching Performance

Gavin Moczydlowsky RHP / 3B / New Boston Huron, MI / 2023

Report: 6-foot RHP dominated on the mound getting the start against Ohio. Showed consistent control pounding the zone for a quick 1-2-3 first inning. Responded with an even better second inning striking out the side. Topped out at 90 MPH while striking out 4 of 6 batters faced.

Best In Game Hitting Performance

Nathan Ball 1B / RHP / Bay City John Glenn, MI / 2023

Report: Physical left handed hitting first baseman looks the part and delivered at the plate with 3 hits for Team Michigan. Hit an opposite field double in a big win over Pennsylvania and hammered a 2 RBI double to dead center in Michigan’s 4 run first inning against Ohio.

Best Workout Day Hitter

Jonah St. Antoine SS / RHP / Forest Hills Northern, MI / 2023

Report: Left-handed hitting shortstop had one of the top rounds of BP during the workout day. Went yard multiple times showing some whip to the barrel posting a 95 MPH exit velo. Swing translated to the game picking up multiple hits during Team Michigan’s games.

Best In Game Defenders

Adrian Epps and Alex Cheesman highlighted a strong defensive week for Team Michigan.

Adrian Epps OF / 2B / West Bloomfield, MI / 2023

Report: Epps was a standout from the start showing great range running down a fly ball to deep center with a Willie Mays style catch on the first pitch of game 1 against Canada.

Alex Cheeseman SS / 2B / Brother Rice, MI / 2023

Report: Cheeseman helped anchor a middle infield that turned multiple double plays and showed impressive range making a sliding backhand play deep in the hole at short.

Best Workout Day Defender

Noah Miller C / RHP / Monroe, MI / 2023

Report: Team Michigan’s second returning member from last year’s team showed off his elite defensive skills on display during the workout. Posted 1.88-1.92 pop times and a 83 MPH velo from behind the dish. Also put strong arm on display with a 92 MPH infield velo and a 90 MPH fastball during an inning of work against Canada.

Best Base Runner

Ryan McKay 2B / SS / St. Marys Preparatory School, MI / 2023

Report: 5-9, 170-pound middle infielder had a strong workout day posting a personal best 6.73 60. Heady player used his wheels to take an extra bag on a throw from the outfield during gameplay.
