2021 MHSAA Tournament: Division 1 State Semifinal - Portage Central vs Midland Dow

EAST LANSING - Tennessee commit Gavin Brasosky was dominant in his final high school start on the mound. The 6-foot southpaw struck out 10 while getting the fastball up to 90 mph in the 6-0 win for Portage Central.

The Mustangs got off to a hot start as LSU commit Luke Leto singled to center field, promptly stole second and advanced to third on an errant throw. Miami (OH) commit Zach MacDonald scored Leto on a sac fly.

Portage Central added on in the second. Kobe Mason led off with a double to left field. After a walk to Michael Aiello and a wild pitch, Will Sachwitz singled to left center, scoring Aiello and the pinch runner Connor Kolberg to make it 3-0 Mustangs.

The Mustangs added one in the fourth on a Leto sac fly before Midland Dow got on the scoreboard thanks to a Logan McCoy single that scored Alex Liakos, who walked earlier.

Portage Central added one more in the bottom of the sixth via an error, giving them five runs, which was more than enough for the talented southpaw Brasosky.

The Mustangs advance to face the winner of Grand Blanc and Brother Rice.

PLAYER OF THE GAME: Gavin Brasosky is the choice here, as the southpaw cruised on the mound, punching out 10.

ALMOST A NO-NO: The Tennessee commit Brasosky had a no-hitter through 5.2 innings, before Tom Biacagalupo broke up the no-no bid with a two-out single through the left side.

FINISHING STRONG: Brasosky got even stronger as the game went on, striking out seven of the final nine outs, including striking out the side in the 7th inning while touching 90 in the same frame.
